Do you think the Saucony Endorphin Elite could be a good option for first time marathoner looking to run a sub 3:20? I've always done well with the rocker in the Saucony but I've heard the Elite 1 is aggressive and more designed for Sub 3 hour runners. Heard the Elite 2 is almost the exact opposite, extremely soft and bouncey. I don't think I will like that at all. Leaning towards the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 3 but I've never ran in Pumas so don't know if I would like them.
I ran my PB of 3:10 around 15 months ago in the Elite and I don't even believe that I was at my fittest going into that Marathon, I just paced it better on the day. The Elite is my favourite race shoe followed by the Metaspeed Series with my Half PB still in the original Sky. I think that I am definitely quicker in a firmer race shoe.
@@MarkSmith_Best-Athletics I like firmer shoes as well but I don't know how i'll feel with that distance. I use the speed 4s for tempo and love them but after 12 miles my feet start to hurt. Only race shoes I own are the Saucony Pro 4s and 3s and I really enjoyed the 4s over the 3s which is different than most people. I just like how easy it is to roll through and feeling nimble compared to the bounciness of shoes.
I wouldn’t let the aggressive rocker put you off, I’d think moreso “where do you strike”… if your heel then the complete “roll through”‘with the aggressive rocker might be a lot, but if your mid/forefoot it’ll just feel like your on the edge of a curb a bit more!! Often find when people say “I’ve heard these are good for slow marathoners” or “fast marathoners” actually comes down to footstrike and how the shoe works for the individual
@@PatrickStar_24 I had 3 x pairs of the Pro 3 and found them great training/workout shoes for threshold paces or LR's with goal pace. On LR's though I found that I struggled much past 18 to 20 miles in the Pro 3's where my form would get lazy and I shifted more towards heel than midfoot striking though. I have never experienced that when running in the Elite. If you can get a pair of Version 1 at a good price in your size then it might work well for you from what you are saying. I know other runners who haven't run Sub 3 who love the original Elites. The Puma could be a good shout and the Brooks Hyperion Elite v4 PB also sounds interesting for those who prefer a firmer race shoe. I would also be interested in what the Metaspeed Edge Paris is like after having all 3 versions of the Metaspeed. I'm good for race shoes until at least around December if not Spring/Summer 2026 though.
@ Thanks for the response Andy. I'm a forefoot striker so your comment intrigues me. Maybe I'll look at these if the price drops once they bring out the Elite 2. My marathon isn't until June 1st.
Thanks for showing your COROS stats. I think that's the clarification that I need that I need to scrap my current training plan for Boston and focus on some threshold and speedwork. The only stat that's about where it should be for me is Endurance at the moment, although it's not really feeling like that after running a steady multi-terrain Marathon on December 15th. The last 4 weeks have felt tough with too much steady grind and not enough workouts. I am wondering how much of that steady Marathon on December 15th is likely to still be in a soon to be 51 year olds legs? 🙄🤷♂️
No worries! Sometimes just taking a quick pause for a week and having a week off plan can do the world of good too, do some stuff you love then you may feel refreshed to kick on 👊
Good one Andy , please get well soon... I enjoy your videos.
Thanks buddy 👊

Will you still use the endorphin elite in your future Races?

@TheFODRunner Thanks for that 🙂 It was interesting to see how your Stats align across sprint-speed-threshold-endurance 👍
Oh, I seen the title. I thought these were the new elites. I thought they sent you a pair
Sadly not 😢
