Wow!!! 9.5L/100km is a shocking surprise for me. I ordered a Kia Seltos Sport+ last year, but I cancelled the order back in May-2023 because Kia dealership told me that my order hasn't even started production yet. I ended up buying the Nissan Qashqai 2023 ST-L in end May-2023. I watched your review on the qashqai too. Good review. Although my 'real-world' fuel consumption was about 8.7L/100km because my area is rather hilly.

I'm planning to buy a new car and your reviews are what I always find helpful. The way you deliver each car's unique description is excellent. I enjoy very much listening to you as you talk. Keep it up!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Matt, for calling out the stupid annoying self-righteous speed limit monitoring system on Kia/Hyundai @ 9:23! In fact, throw in the equally stupid intrusive and unsafe lane keeping assist, these are the worst tech in Kia/Hyundai, at least the worst calibrated. The fact that you cannot turn them off (ANCAP regulation?) or easily adjusted is a total deal breaker. It was the reason I sold my 22 Tucson. No way I’ll be buying another Kia/Hyundai until they get these tech sorted. Thanks mate for calling this out, feels like these are not being called out enough by reviewers. Love your work.
Thank you for commenting and thanks for your honesty. These systems need to tick the box for the crash test authorities, but who is it more important to please - the NCAPs of this world, or the people who spend their hard-earned money to buy one of your cars…! Cheers - you can count on me to call out the stuff others miss. Stay tuned!
Agree with you on a lot of your points. Test drove one and the speed sign detection was driving me crazy. It was detecting 40 in a school zone but it was outside school hours so was going mental when I was going 60. I’d be interested in seeing a review from you in the Skoda Kamiq. It’s what I ended up going for. It was a much more enjoyable drive, has wireless CarPlay and wireless Charing plus the fuel economy was much better.
Appreciate you showing what the back space would be like with a car seat!! Always hard to guess with these subcompact suv! Very informative, thank you!
Unless you are a rev head the 2.0L GT Line is the best option. The service costs on the turbo model puts me off along with the high fuel consumption. I've heard you can put some black tape over the camera to stop that (extremely) annoying beeping. Good video. Thumbs up.
Is it possible for you to make a comparison video between kia seltos and sportage? I am kind of confused about which car will be more valuable in terms of different aspects 😊
The best thing about this channel is there is no 45 min series of videos about the Ford Ranger, including reverse speed, and how hard it’s soft bits are 😂
No 45 min vids here. Aiming for 11-15 per vid. Some may fall outside those guides but I want to waste people’s time but I do want to tell people what they need to know.
Matt has been producing great video content since he started at Car Advice way back in 2015, he then went to Carsguide and was far and away the beat reviewer they had and now here doing his own content for his channel. Far and away one of the better reviewers out there.
Hmm making me second guess my car pick. I was looking at the s model seltos as It'll be my first new car. I'm used to driving a 2001 Ute with 0 bells and whistles, so I don't need many fancy features. Just want a "small" car that can fit my greyhound comfortably. I'll definitely take it for a spin and get a feel for it!
Hey Hayley, I think the safety stuff could be frustrating for ANYONE, and the systems will take some getting used to. If you could find a pre-update model demo, they didn’t have the annoying beep beeping the facelift has. But if you’re buying a pre-facelift S, make sure it has the safety pack. Let me know how you go! Happy to help find a solution if the Kia isn’t your Right Car!
I would consider the 2L non turbo if it had the 8 speed auto. The CVT for me would be the deal-breaker but I'm keen on the 1.6L turbo variant on the GT. The The older 7 speed can be more responsive in sport mode I understand. The Bose sound system is another must for me. I imagine the speed sign detection system could hopefully be disabled by the dealer or by firmware/ software upgrade. Thanks for the comprehensive review. Cheers 🍻🤠
Thanks mate. Fair points! But the dealers cannot and will not touch the software on the safety systems - licences would be revoked if they were found to be touching the tech. It’s a global issue and the companies (Hyundai/Kia/Genesis) are working towards a solution. It won’t happen for a while though - they need to roll out a change to the system globally, and that takes a lot of paperwork.
Hey Matt. I have the original Sports + and after paying just on $34k for my 2019 the moment they were released, and driving it for the last 3 years, at that stage I couldn’t have justified the GT Line for a sun roof and BOSE and just the same I couldn’t justify the extra costs on upgraded Sports+! The variant I purchased was by far the best value and ooooft what a beautiful looking car on the road also. Am now looking at a GT Sportage though! 😅
Good stuff mate! Glad you’re happy with your pick. My only concern was really with the headlights, and it continues to be. Kia needs to get with the LED times, man!!
@@therightcar 10/10 it’s like how on earth can you NOT had LED. We grabbed a conversion kit for like $230 but tbh most people wouldn’t or couldn’t snap them in/out that easily! And to see these models without the extra thought when Kia know it’s a valid point sucks. I’ve got almost 60k on mine since March 2020 and I couldn’t fault her to be fair.
Matt, I hope your channel is successful but for heaven's sake please ditch that annoying "demented mosquito" noise between segments! Re the speed alert beeping, I recall another reviewer pointing out that if you press and hold one of the buttons for a few seconds it provides a direct short-cut to the screen for switching it off. Hope that helps. For me, the deal-breaker is the omission for Australia of the 360 degree camera available in some markets (which also provides blind-spot camera coverage when you press the turn indicators). As I'm past family-rearing age, that omission makes the Mazda CX-30 a more attractive proposition for me.
Thanks, Worrywart. The noise is actually part of a ploy. I’m aiming to change the sound to make it a game, so people try and guess what the sound is. The winner will get some merch or something! So, no, it’s not a demented mosquito. Yep I’ve seen that too, but it’s still two menus to turn the speed warning off each time you drive. Super frustrating and box-ticking at its worst to appease the safety goblins. As for 360 camera - check out my Nissan Qashqai vid coming next week. ST+ and above get a great screen with surround view camera. Bloody good car, too.

No issues with 24 Seltos we test drove. The level 2 autonomous driving is best in the industry, you can set it and truly relax as it drives you around. None of the competition compares in space and storage, or the driver cockpit and driver assist capabilities.
The sad thing is that there a small but rapidly growing industry dedicated to allowing owners to get into their car's software and permanently disable safety systems. One of our cars is a Stinger and I won't drive it unless the lane keeping warning has been turned off - like this car it's a three level dive into the menus every time you restart. @@therightcar Thanks for the reply, Matt. I think it’s sad on two fronts. Tossing up between old kluger 2016 vs new cheaper Chinese suv with warranty. Got max $40k budget.. Better to go with tried and tested Toyota or better of getting the new warranty one? I do prefer large space & boot. Good to see you doing you're own gig. Subscribed!
Don’t want a wagon? Superb 2018-19 would be a good pick! But understand if European doesn’t instil confidence re reliability. I guess you get better safety tech included for a newer Chinese model. Like, significantly better tech, at least according to ANCAP. Plenty of the systems need finesse. MG seems to do it better than GWM as far as I’ve seen. Man there are so many options for $40k. My head is spinning!
I seriously cannot purchase any vehicle with a CVT transmission. I really like the look and technology behind the Seltos. With 146kw it is far, far more powerful than the Corolla Cross. I bought the Seltos for this power advantage and that it has an 8 speed regular automatic. I understand you decision towards the base CVT model but that's not for me. Only issue I have is the wait. I must wait until October 2023 to acquire my new ride.
Hi Matt Love your show , I’m helping my ex wife buy a small suv she only wants to spend around 30k . She correctly drives a 2010 Kia Rio which she as had no trouble with it and only spent money on servicing. And would your love thoughts on it but she doesn’t want any Chinese brands .
Thanks mate! Appreciate that. The obvious option would be the updated Kia Stonic. It’s just like a Rio only more of a crossover SUV model, with better features and tech than her old car. It has a turbo petrol engine and needs more regular servicing than the last model, though. Otherwise she could go for a base Kona petrol for about $32k with a few demo km. Final option? A Suzuki Vitara. Good deals on now - not the most up-to-date interior but it’s spacious and good to drive.
@@therightcar you mean the press doesn’t have the 23 model I’m assuming. The ‘23 model is well and truely out there on our roads. Every RAV built Nov ‘22 onwards is ‘23 spec.
Great review Matt! Interesting on the 2L engine being your pick instead of the 1.6L turbo. I would have thought Kia was onto a winning combination esp with the 8 speed auto now. Whilst it can't compete with hybrid powertrains for efficiency it does run on 91 petrol and is perhaps the best petrol engine in it's class I would have thought? What type of driving did you do to achieve 9.xL/100km?
Thanks Kurt! I would choose the 2.0L and CVT because it’s a great powertrain - and considering the intent of the car, I think it just fits the car better. The turbo and auto is good - but it seems a bit overkill to me in a Seltos. It is a great engine but I think VW still does a better downsized turbo I was doing some urban and a fair bit of highway for that figure.
Matt. You previously reviewed the 2024 Kia Picanto top model. Could you please do one the Picanto Sport. I've got plenty of money, but I've and got a wet finish Adventurous Green Sport Picanto order on the strength of your review.
Hey mate - that’s great to hear. But if you’ve got plenty of money why are you buying a Picanto? I probably won’t do a Picanto Sport review - too many other cars!!
@@therightcar I just want a comfy ride for shopping. p.s. I could buy the whole dealership but I choose the comfy ride. p.p.s. Our first car is much bigger and posher.
This was top of the list as a new car for my 60 year old mother but I’m currently renting one and it’s now off the list completely, speed sign recognition drives me insane and fuel economy sucks, I’ve just driven 560km on the highway and only managed 7.6 despite being in eco and using radar cruise the whole way.
You're lucky. It's a thing implemented for Euro NCAP (and therefore ANCAP in the Asia Pacific) for safety tech. We get that as part of the tech bundle. You don't. You lucky bugger.
Thanks Matt - this car is a bit too eccentric for me and those intrusive warning chimes would probable be worse than those folk who don’t turn off the iPhone clicks when typing ☹️ - anything with a CVT or electronic parking brake is a deal breaker for me - torque converters may use more fuel and power but they’re generally a better drive especially when you need to test them on steep inclines - interestingly the front KIA badged is on the bonnet leaving a more pleasing grill shape compared to the old one with the weird indent on the top (always looked cheap and unfinished) I would only buy a second hand pre CVT Subaru Forester or RAV 4 now.
@@therightcar yes Matt I made my mind up a decade ago but I base my decision on fact and experience not opinion - good on you for providing a refreshingly independent review as does JC - just that there’s wait too much technology interference some good some bad - some folk have a huge wedding ceremony and forget there’s a marriage attached - the same when you buy a new car you’re hoping the dealer’s service culture will be good and honourable but we know that’s rare - just another aspect of owning a car - I can honestly say that from experience with Toyota and Subaru that has been very positive over the years just a pity they’ve gone with the awful CVT.
Isnt ADAS and its annoying beeps the best reason to spend all that money?that 2l is sluggish and thirsty , at least in the previous gen(since Kia/Hyundai are turning into the Apple phone of cars where you get a new model every year) was just last year. If I was looking in this segment i would get the S Cross, yes the trunk is 3l down but it has two levels and detachable sides to load wider items or store large bottles. Plus the fuel economy is better, it has paddles and is a better car to drive.
I've just picked up my new Seltos Sport+ and I must say, the speed warning is absolutely INFURIATING. As it is camera based (sees the road signs), it believes the 40km school zones are permanent speed limits and will beep at you incessantly on weekends and after school hours if you do over 40km in a school zone. The fact that this audible warning is on by default, and the only way to turn it off is through navigating laboriously through the menu on the info system to turn it off EVERY TIME YOU DRIVE, makes this just the most ridiculously annoying feature. If I'd known about the school zone thing, I would not have bought this car. Now considering selling and going to a Honda HRV. At least Mitsubishi got it right by not beeping, but simply flashing the speed limit on the dash if you go over. KIA NEED TO CHANGE THIS FEATURE.
@@therightcar Hope so!! Yes I was in a car park today that must have been signed 10kph and then exited onto the street. The car thought it was still a 10kph zone...... commence the beeps. Also, the car beeps at you every time the camera picks up a change in speed limit. So insane
I stick to the legal speed limits & so I never hear warning beeps🙄?. What's wrong with you, of course it gives warning beeps when you break the law & speed over the speed limits??. Your lucky it just beeps & doesn't actually cut power to the engine to get you to slow down😂?. Maybe they need to start putting in speeding kill switches in all new cars?.
@@DaniilBalkans-jh2rw you obviously didn't read or understand my comment. It isn't able to discern the time of day so it thinks the school zones are 24/7, not just a couple of hours during school drop-off and pickup times. Also yes I'm sure you never ever accidentally go a couple of KMs over the limit, you must be so amazing. It also beeps every single time it sees a speed limit sign which is super annoying. Move on champ
I would buy the GT Line with 1.6 turbo and a real auto transmission wouldn't consider anything with CVT or DCT. The main reason I wouldn't buy it is FAKE LEATHER SEATS .
You prefer the pre-facelift? I don’t mind this one but the halogen lights look dumb. The GT-Line model with the integrated LEDs in the grille is cool, right?
Considering these reviews are generally aimed at the Australian and New Zealand market, A $ are appropriate, other than the glaring obvious difference of right hand drive, there are variations in most vehicles in different markets, some Australian supplied brands have suspension tuning variations to the NA market for one. Jus sayin'

Otherwise she could go for a base Kona petrol for about $32k with a few demo km.
Final option? A Suzuki Vitara. Good deals on now - not the most up-to-date interior but it’s spacious and good to drive.
Thanks for your thoughts I’ll look up the Kia stonic.
Thanks again for your thought, she as bought the Stonic gt line 2025 model auto $33500 drive away that with a few extras.
Cheers Hoover
Great review, Matt! That feature would drive me insane 🤯
I was actually fine handing this car back. So annoying when brands don’t think about the integration or ease of use of these safety items.
Great review! Now I know it’s not revolutionary but why has no one in Reviewed the ‘23 RAV4 Hybrid??
Thanks! No-one has a 2023 model yet. Press models arriving in March, I believe. Stay tuned!
It is a great engine but I think VW still does a better downsized turbo
I was doing some urban and a fair bit of highway for that figure.
we drove the 2ltr and bought the 1.6 turbo - its a much better performing engine ...and we wouldnt touch the horrible CVT that the 2ltr had...
This or kona for u???? I m confused between these 2
Another great review. I would buy the Corolla Cross.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
What if you can't wait 18 months
Can anyone confirm if you can remove the cargo cover in the back?
Yep. You can.
what do think of this vs the new Qashqai?
Let me come back to you soon. Driving new Qashqai this week. Video coming, too!!
Disappointed that does not have dual zone air con. Also bug with the turn off speed alert is a show stopper for me.
Well put.
Seems like a nice enough car but Kia are on the nose these days with their engine issues.
Your new channel is looking great Matt. Best of luck.
Thanks mate!
I pretty sure that has been ironed out now
Urban City setting ( Seltos) 2.0 Engine CVT power is more than enough. I drive 2.0 just the perfect car to drive in Korea.
Own the 23 Nightfall its nice drive a 21 Hyundia Sonata Hybrid I notice the power difference but its still nice
Good one!
Only the GT Line is worth going for but the pricing is crazy
Just subscribed Matt can you please comment about the Mitsubishi Outlander SLe please. 2021 an update
Where are you based? We never got an SLe here in Australia?
This was top of the list as a new car for my 60 year old mother but I’m currently renting one and it’s now off the list completely, speed sign recognition drives me insane and fuel economy sucks, I’ve just driven 560km on the highway and only managed 7.6 despite being in eco and using radar cruise the whole way.
I have 2023 seltos and we don't have that problem with the speed limit in the U S A.
You're lucky.
It's a thing implemented for Euro NCAP (and therefore ANCAP in the Asia Pacific) for safety tech. We get that as part of the tech bundle. You don't. You lucky bugger.
I have just bought the gt seltos and the cabin is soooo noisy. Is there anything that can make it quieter?
The GT-Line has the lower profile tyres and they will be contributing to it. You can get extra sound deadening added by audio install businesses.
@@therightcar thank you, I will check it out. It seams to happen more when you accelerate!
@@therightcar I have googled audio installation and this all relates to sound systems install not sound barrier 🤷🏼♀️
Sounds like you’ve got your mind made up!
Excellent review.
Thanks!
I have Seltos 2023 Front-wheel drive Non-Turbo engine. Much better and faster. Urban City move is probably best bet.
I hope you’re enjoying it!
Hopefully they can perform some kind of masking upgrade for it. It’s untenable, clearly.
@@therightcar Hope so!! Yes I was in a car park today that must have been signed 10kph and then exited onto the street. The car thought it was still a 10kph zone...... commence the beeps. Also, the car beeps at you every time the camera picks up a change in speed limit. So insane
Don’t speed don’t break the law lol jk (it sounds annoying)
Kia has really upped their game and made some amazing cars with great styling, great features and great tech.
This however...is not one of them
Ha!
I would buy the GT Line with 1.6 turbo and a real auto transmission wouldn't consider anything with CVT or DCT. The main reason I wouldn't buy it is FAKE LEATHER SEATS .
The price doesn’t scare you away?
@@therightcar Not if I really wanted one. But the GWM Tank 300 would get my money if I was looking to buy.
The steering is my favourite part of the Seltos. It's responsive and sporty. If you want a mum car, this is not for you.
Hey, some mums like sporty steering.
Wtf you can’t turn off lane assist ?????
You can. It’s just annoying.
The front grill looks awful , but overall is very competitive 🤔
You prefer the pre-facelift? I don’t mind this one but the halogen lights look dumb. The GT-Line model with the integrated LEDs in the grille is cool, right?
I would never pick an ASX 😂
Haha! I know, I wouldn’t either, but that hasn’t stopped Mitsubishi selling tens of thousands of them for more than a decade.
Mazda CCC-30
CX-30? Good car. Back seat and boot are too small though.
Beeps don't bother me in the least
You deaf?
All Ute stuff al

Lol.
Considering these reviews are generally aimed at the Australian and New Zealand market, A $ are appropriate, other than the glaring obvious difference of right hand drive, there are variations in most vehicles in different markets, some Australian supplied brands have suspension tuning variations to the NA market for one.
Jus sayin'
Paul Maric is the best reviewer on the internet, ore concise, more profesional. And another thing, as a motor mechanic for over 50 years, I know what a good car is, the seltos is a good car, Matt's advice I take with a grain of salt. It's another thing to talk about a car, anybody can do that, when you have worked on thousands of cars like I have over the years. Matt has no idea.
No point in the review did I say this is a bad car. I said it has some stupid technology and it’s actually very good car in a lot of ways.
You’re welcome to go and watch Paul’s stuff if you love it so much. I don’t need this kind of bad vibe in my community.
