      @joeculpjr3028 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your preliminary explanation has already, helped tremendously. I was kinda close at different times with what I was thinking, but yet so far off. I believe my challenge is the 8 yr newer body style and complexity of compound curves in the rooflines.

    • @DocsKustomKorner52
      @DocsKustomKorner52  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joeculpjr3028 As long as when you bring everything back together again, make sure the scrap piece of plastic (another roof section) has the same or close contour to it and you should be fine with it... If I remember I'll go over that in the next vid... IF!!! LOL darned squirrels!!

    Around 2005/6 I took my holiday leave from my Infotech job (3 months) prior to leaving the position. I stepped away from computers for a bit and rekindled my childhood love of model making to pass the time. But I was 42 by then and had been building and customising computers for some years, so I kind of went full-tilt on my first model. It was a 56 Belair. I went to the hobby shop and bought the Belair, a '67 Camaro, a bunch of sheet and putty, plus spray putty and paints, and whatever else I thought I'd need.
    I ended up working out how to chop the roof successfully without destroying it through careful first cuts on the pillars, then figuring out by eye what to do with the roof. I split the roof lengthways, worked out how best it would look and then did the cross-cut. I used the sheet to fill the gaps in the roof and used putty etc to get the final smooth look. I was quite proud of the build. I even went back to the hobby shop to get some clear sheet for the glass. Sadly, that model is long gone, as is the '67 tubbed Camaro. I played with that one a bit. If I remember correctly, it was a 2-option kit? You could build it as a street car or a drag car with options to cut the hood and use a blown engine plus optional wheelie bars and stuff. I'm sure they were both Revell kits. After doing those two over a period of a few months, life got busy again, and I didn't make time to keep indulging. I'm in my late 50s now and plan to have some time on the road. I may make a space for modeling equipment and have a go at making time when I'm stopped for a bit to muck around again. Thanks for this how-to. It brought back some nice memories.

    Here’s a tip for measuring the centre point of a curved surface such as that roof, use a piece of masking tape cut to the exact width then fold it in half 😉

    Doc: Unfortunately I'm finding this a few years too late... I have been butchering a 49 Merc as my first attempt at modifying a body - this would have saved me countless hours of frustration.

    • @DocsKustomKorner52
      @DocsKustomKorner52  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      49 Merc's are one if not the hardest roofline to chop and get it to look right!! I've done a few with halfway decent results but they are tricky to do...
