If they try and deny a disabled person from travelling out of the country just because they are on CPP disability, it's complete discrimination. All residents have that right to travel to any other country for the time period that the country allows, and also what Canada would allow to maintain Canadian status. I can understand if you are missing treatments, and this would be a step backwards to recovery, so I can understand it not being permitted if it were hindering a recovery for a possible return back to work, but for someone who has an indefinite return to work, and most likely never returning, they cannot discriminate against one for this.
THank you for your helpful videos! To obtain more information regarding what is and not allowed while on LTD, do you recommend researching ourselves in the booklet? Is there any harm in calling and asking a LTD client representative? Thank you
It is always best to start by looking at your LTD benefits booklet or policy to see what it says about travel outside of Canada. Almost all plans limit travel to some extent or completely. The best case scenario I have see is they will continue to pay as long as you maintain legal residency in Canada. But you would have to see if your own plan was set up that way.
Thanks for the video. Very helpful. However, I cant figure out if this video is specific to CPPD rules. I need to know the travel rules for CPPD. In other words, if a person is no longer on LTD but is receiving CPPD (has been for a couple years), does CPPD allow the person to travel, lets say for a week or two in Canada or abroad? All help greatly appreciated!
There may be anothe video about this, what about travel outside of Canada for academic upgrading for career purposes? I'll check if there's another video
Insurance company's don't care about the reasons for travel. They treat it all the same. You would need to check to see what your own insurance policy says about travel.

I have been waiting for both short and long term for 6month to be paid out while using my own founds and credit to pay for treatment in till i didn’t have any and max out my credit … so my father decided to send me out of the country to family since everything is cheaper there but my insurance says now they will deny my LTD even though i never had any help from them. Is there something i can do ?
Most group LTD insurance policies in Canada have clauses that limit payments if a person leaves the country. Some will allow benefits to continue for a few months. Others will stop payments immediately. You would need to review your group benefits booklet to see what is says about international travel.

Similar question, do insurers have provisions that restrict education upgrading all together while on STD or LTD?
