GREAT explanation!!! Guts Racing makes a -20mm lower foam seat for $99 which you can buy firm or soft and I got the soft and it is great, no issues at all.
Zeta makes a kit for WP Xplor forks that lower them a inch using stock length springs. My FE 250 came with a lowering link in the rear and the forks raised up to the bars almost but it was sitting like a chopper still. I installed the Zeta fork kit a couple weeks ago and it corners much better and is alot more flickable. I also bought the Zeta shock spacer to replace the lowering link but havnt got around to installing it yet.
It all depends on the link in that situation. You have to get the bike as balanced as possible. Also YZ's and Husks are way different in geometry. I really like the zeta kit with the perches to use the stock length springs. I think they make them for YZ's too
Mushroom Coffees are very Good for you. Chaga, Miatake and lions mane. Good stuff. I just subscribed because of lowering a bike. KTM690R. We went with Motolabs and chose to lower only an inch. After all that money it needs a little more. I am looking at seat concepts and after that a mild link lowering. Worried about Geometry because this bike is moving at 80+ miles an hour sometimes. Cheers. Great Channel.
the zeta sealhead spacer really does not cost you any travel. if you got the correct spring you should have roughly 30mm of free sag, the amount the bike sags from the stand to sitting on the ground. your rider or race sag is roughly another 3 inches or so. you will never miss that 30mm of free sag. just write your measurements down before installing and adjust your rider sag back the the same mesurment afterwards. i use to use the lowering link on all the bikes i had. you dont loose any travel on them either. Normally oem links raising rate is softer at the top and ramps up stiffer closer to the end of the stroke. the lowering links will be slightly stiffer at the top of the stroke and not ramp up as much at the end of the stroke. could be good or bad depending on if your shock is too hard or too soft at the end of the stroke. A good rule of thumb is for every 3 to 5mm you lower the rear pull the forks up 1mm. so if you lower the rear 30mm raise the forks 6 to 10mm depend on the bike because each manufacturer uses different raising rates to the linkage. i ran across a Ryan Hughes video on how he sets up a new bike and discovered i had been doing almost the exact same thing for 10 years. he puts offsett tripple clamps on to make it turn quicker then comes back and uses slightly longer links to lower the rear and make it more stable. great video
Can you do the lowering link in conjunction with the spacer? I think I've read that at least Zeta says it's possible...I think? It REALLY sucks for short folks!!! I pretty much need another 1.5" to be tippy toed! I know many say "just get better at balance, ride more etc. Yes, that works but there are ALWAYS times (stalled bike, stopping short) when you NEED to get a foot on the ground.
@@highlandcycles Thanks Morgan....yes, the front is the issue. I even put a 10mm riser on so I'd have more room to move the forks up. Praying the bike isn't completely whacked after this! LOL Good news is I can just go back to stock and keep falling! LMAO
I also did the 24V mod and toasted an AG801 battery. So I grabbed a $30 lead acid for battery #2 and its working great ever since. I'm still confused what happened to kill the battery though, too much heat? I was cranking on the bike for a while cause it wouldn't start (pilot was a little dirty). Did a few 5-10 second bursts, then it just stopped working. Went to charge the battery and it wouldn't take a charge... would love to understand what happened. Are the Lithium batteries just really heat sensitive or something? Did I run it too low? The main lesson I learned is if it doesn't want to start, go to the kick starter sooner rather than later.
@@highlandcycles I still think the 24V is a fine mod, but maybe its better done with the less fragile lead acid as battery #2. If only it didn't weigh 4lbs :'(
Hi Morgan. I just picked up a 2018 Ktm, and I'm suspicious that it may have one of these lowering kits on it. Can I remove the cap from the shock body without releasing the nitrogen just to see if there is a spacer installed?
Makes me glad I'm 6' tall ... 🤣 I love my coffee but I finally had to come to the realization that it causes me dehydration issues... A few weeks ago, I had a 4 cup morning on a hot day, went out and fell apart an hour into the ride. I lost all strength and was kind of swimming in my head, had to leave and was wrecked for the rest of the day. Sorry to say, I'm now limited myself to 2 regular size cups per day and none before big ride. Upped my H2O intake also.
Idk man. My garage rebuilt 02 400exc with a used piston/jug is running freaking awesome still. I may be nieve...butbi like the rfs. It is freaking loud tho...like all the time lol.
I’ve had bad luck with those antigravity batteries. Tried starting the bike in the cold and probably let the battery get too dead while cranking and completely wrecked the battery. Always used a lithium capable charger BTW. Gone back to standard battery.
I'm 5'7' with a 28" ...I have a 2023 KTM SX-F 350 with a lowered seat and I've fallen dozens of times simply because I cannot touch the ground. It's EXTREMELY frustrating and definitely makes me not want to ride.
@@highlandcycles I'm over 50yrs old, I haven't grown since Junior year in HS, I had all kinds of CR 125's and 250's throughout the 80's and 90's and I don't recall ever having this issue.... certainly not to this degree. I can absolutely relate to those who lack confidence because falling every time you stop or get stuck is no fun at all.
I can’t help but feel ‘triggered’ by this video…you’ll be hearing from my attorneys… I just fall over when I stop..it maintains the bikes handling, plus provides lots of entertainment for the people I ride with.😁
Thank you Morgan!!! The Husaberg factory team is thankful for your continued support!!!!
Great Slavens impression!🤘

That Slavens quote was priceless!!
Hehehe
Dude... those old RFS are great. I have an 06 that is plated that I'm cleaning up for sale. Been a great bike. Has many miles of smiles on it.
They are great as long as they are well taken care of. If neglect sets in they turn into a nightmare.
Great review again, Great explanation on why don't you use a lowering and dog bone. thanks
I do sometimes. It depends on what we are trying to accomplish and how much money the customer wants to spend.

@@highlandcycles Its a Devol lowering link
Hi I went with a KTM lower seat 20mm made a huge difference for me👍
Definitely the way to go if you can. No changes to suspension is good!
KTM's low seat worked great for me also. I'm 6' but the low seat was just the right amount I needed.

Great slog. The lowering options was spot on!
Anyway...

Sometimes the longer link solution causes the tire to buzz the fender .

I would imagine you can do both. It would work fine. You would just need to do something more aggressive with the forks to level the bike

I had a 2016 yz250x, put a lowering link on it and raised the forks up in the clamps. It worked pretty good.

Thanks.
Side note. Should I go with a gnarly or fatty pipe? I do more trail and woods riding but don’t wanna lose a ton up top. Or pro circuit?
Great vids mate , love from Scotland!👍
A little of 2 strokes oil in that coffee! 😂
I'm a short rider and run small rear tires. It sucks in the rocks a bit but it's worth it to me.
That is a great solution. Just run Mousses and you'll be fine.
