    This will be lost in the other 800 comments BUT... Update Orchestrator - the description says you can't get updates without this. I had a fresh install of windows and couldn't figure out why Windows Update would not work at all, just the loading bar forever. Turned orchestrator back on and viola, updates worked again.

      Yeah I commented about this a month before your post, and no one even saw it.

      I actually couldn't turned it off. I has the grey bar blocked when I tried to click and change it to off. I think Microsoft made an update so you cant turn it off. I opened services as an administrator and STILL couldnt change that Update Orchestrator.

    You shouldn't need to disable Distributed Link Tracking, it's a service which ensures shortcuts work correctly even when the source files are moved. You'll end up with lots of broken shortcuts in your startmenu over time with this disabled. I'm assuming you were spooked by it because it has "tracking" in the name, but it's not sending anything on your network, it "tracks" the relationship between shortcuts and source files.
    I also don't understand why you disabled Update Orchestrator, you say you "don't use it" - but you must have used it in order to update to the latest Windows build?? It's required to be running in order for Updates to be installed, regardless the Windows Update service will re-enable it anyway.
    The only service I agree with on disabling is Telemetry, the others have no impact on performance at all.

    I like this video and appreciate it... I'm about halfway thru watching it but I'm quickly realising that you're saying to uncheck this and uncheck that but you're not telling us what they are. I think it would be better if you explain to your viewers what each thing is. Not everyone it there knows what all those things are and if they're going to turn something off, it would be better if they knew do they could then decide if they want then off or not. Thanks for the video.

    • @FatedCb

      Chris Dennis I think this would be important, I do IT for a living and things like Telemetry are actually important to a functioning computer but you want to kill off user experience stuff. Would be nice to hear an explanation, but still a good video nonetheless.

    • @JDJayDee
      @JDJayDee 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      most of the things he is unchecking, if not all, have a description so you can pick and choose, and decide what makes your pc experience better for you. This was mainly for performance and a smoother gaming experience. It's still a real good idea to go in to these areas of your system he mentioned and fine tune your settings to accommodate your needs.

    I like to leave all animations on, that gives the OS a better look and makes it feel more modern, and costs almost no performance in games...
    Also The High performance mode is not really needed on anything beyond a core 2 Quad / phenom2. The CPUs are changing their Frequency fast enogh to be almost not noticable, but this saves A LOT of power when the PC idles

    Good video! Didnt remember to do all of these on last install, so fixed a bunch. One thing to keep in mind with the high/balanced power setting is Ryzen chipset driver includes its own Ryzen Power optimized setting so that should stay on, not high. Is apparently quicker and better than the high setting. Maybe do a video on this power setting and see if it still holds true? Of course, only applies to more or less brand new PCs with Ryzen cpus.

      jawbreaker what they do actually do continuously is nibble ram and CPU usage. Each on takes its tiny bite. Add them all together and you end up wishing your computer was using 32 gigs of ram with a 28 core processor and a titan v . its ridiculous.

    anyone know where that wallpaper is? 1440p preferred
    most of this is fine, but dumbing down windows' visual looks cause its "faster"? maybe on a pentium 4 with onboard video and 4gb ram.. turning off auto time sync cause it "could use resources"? yes ok it may use cpu, about 0.00000001% & 200kb ram.. not worth having time slowly drift. high performance power plan.. that old thing that never dies.. there is ZERO difference between balanced and high performance, the ONLY exception to that is pci express power saving, *IF* ur UEFI is set to native aspm so the OS controls it, if it does then set it to off in windows, if its UEFI controlled then it doesnt matter, basically u just want no aspm for the graphics card, the rest of the system can have it on, helps nvme drive temps alot.
    overall, not bad guide, better than most. u forgot to touch on the page file, it defaults to dynamic controlled, but manual fixed is better, gamers will want a bare minimum of 2.5gb or risk "running out of swap space", as its happened to me, so i now run 5gb fixed (i have 16gb ram). an ssd IS better for page, as when its accessed no matter how rarely, it NEEDS to be fast as possible, it WONT wear down ur ssd so dont put it on a HDD unless u absolutely have no SSD space left. u should make a separate video for "advanced" ways of disabling as much telemetry as possible without breaking any apps (skype, bing search etc). i use my router in combo with spybot antibeacon, with some microsoft domains blocked by dnsmasq in this format:
    address=/DnsNameHere/0.0.0.0
    address=/DnsNameHere/::
    ipv4
    ipv6
    respectively. 0.0.0.0 is faster than 127.0.0.1 as 0.0.0.0 is globally recognized as invalid and devices instantly give up, with localhost, several devices hang, attempting to connect before giving up. this way as opposed to 0.0.0.0 in hosts is microsoft cant override it no matter what, they can override hosts file in OS only for it to hit the router and not be resolved, this also covers all devices on the network at once, zero config on their end, just be using the router as the dns server. doing this blocks everything on a domain so if /doubleclick.net/ is entered, x.x.x.x.doubleclick.net is all blocked. sometimes there is one or a few good subdomains u want or need to unbreak a service, but want to block as much as possible of the main domain like doubleclick.net, this is achieved by "server=/l.doubleclick.net/#" so now x.x.x.x.x whatever.l.doubleclick.net is not blocked, but the rest of doubleclick.net is (g.doubleclick.net etc).
    sry a bit drunk

    You should've done a benchmark before and after for proof of concept matters. I'm kind of a benchmark nerd and I can asure you with those and even more tweaking you can gain 5-10% performance depending on the benchmark tests and also the cpu core count.

    • @lissandrodanny6709
      @lissandrodanny6709 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      IF this would give a 5% boost would be groundbreaking, but instead, if any, would give you a 0,5% boost, and only in few moments. Most of that stuff he disabled don't do anything, and while the services are shown on services tab, if they are not active (not running, they can be running but inactive - running only means they're open to receive instructions, not that they are using more than the few kbytes in memory it's process uses), is the same thing as disabling it (open task manager and look those various svchost each one of them - almost each one actually - represent a service. Keep looking at all of them for 5 minutes. Those that stay with memory size unchanged, AREN'T DOING SHIT to your PC, so disabling them will not give you any boost). Now, open task manager, go into Services tab, get into each service Tech Yes Guy said to disable, right-click it, anc choose 'go to details'. It will get you in the especific svchost process related to that service. You will realize most of them are only a few kbytes. So, I just checked them, on MY PC, they use about 27Mb, their memory usage was static, meaning they weren't consuming any CPU power, they were there, idling. Seriously, if your PC is getting any improvment by cleaning 27Mb in RAM, you need to change it ASAP. By doing this kind of stuff your essentially dictating that future you that yells 'Windows 10 is bullshit nothing works properly, give 100 errors every 10 seconds! I'm going back to Windows 98!!'

      Sorry. I have to disagree with you there.
      Defender is not the best but it's far from the worst and a million times better than nothing at all. If you're running a gaming rig, it's also one of the better ones to that eat's CPUs less than the rest. Also, you're looking at old stats. Defender has caught up dramatically over the last year or so. There's barely any difference between any of the obvious AV providers over the last 6 months and that includes Defender.
      I run Defender on my PCs. I also run a Malwarebytes scan one a week ( I don't use the realtime protection of Malwarebytes because that has no benefit). Other than some low risk adware cruft pop up once or twice a year I've never had a problem and I don't know a single AV product that doesn't let some sort of low level crap through (Just run ADWcleaner on your PC to see if your favourite AV product is working properly). In fact I could probably do with just Defender and run ADWcleaner once a month.
      Putting any 'consumer' AV software on your PC will tank performance. The business ones are better because they assume the user is a little more sensible but to be honest there's so little in it on any of the AV products these days, it's just not worth the bother installing anything else. Sure Kaspersky has more features but it's not really that much better and I'd rather not have a bucket loads of ads from AVG .
      In my experience of supporting a lot of Windows PCs, if there's something playing up, there's a good chance it's a third party AV programs causing the problem. Also, many AV products make things worse. Don't believe me. Check out this.

    This "optimization" is more like custom personal PC configuration, than optimization...
    With this "optimization", on normal computers, with SSD's and etc., 99% of users WON'T notice the difference.
    The only things that DO make the difference (on old computers), is lowering settings witch affect graphics.

      windows 10 is really not that bad. i hated it for so long. up until a few months or so ago i was still refusing to upgrade but decided to do the free upgrade on another clone drive and tbh i wouldnt go back to 7 if you paid me. win 10 is much faster booting and just feels more up to date and trouble free. not to mention now having DX12 support i dont have to worry about compatability for the future. once you optimise win 10 and get rid of the crap you can its the better OS. just make sure you get atleast the Pro version to avoid some annoying security issues with games not being allowed access to certain disk locations

      @Xeno_Bardock 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can try updating the Linux kernel to latest version and see if same CPU and fan problem persist. If your hardware is recent/newer, you should use Arch based rolling Linux distro like Manjaro instead of Ubuntu or Debian based distros. Rolling model distros support newer hardware faster than LTS model due to being bleeding edge.
