So glad I watched this. I discouraged myself from doing glamours because I thought you could only change 1 item to look like another, which would be pointless for leveling when you are constantly upgrading. I'm glad I watched this to learn about plates, thanks!
Just swept through all the worlds, got lucky and only could've saved like 5%, so not a big loss. I could've saved that much just by buying without the city tax (which I also forgot)
Minor additions: - You can permanent-dye and apply-to-what-you're-wearing-now items currently in the glamour dresser via right click menu, but not when editing plates. - There's also a warning for duplicate items that is good to watch for. The glamour dresser can hold multiple of the same unique for some reason. - Glamour dresser will wipe out random stats on aetherial items, though that's quickly becoming irrelevant. - If you need to check item stats or armiore-ability of something already in glamour dresser, right click, try on, hover on THAT icon in the dressing room window.
I feel so bad at glamouring, I can attempt and prog savage edens raids with some success, but my brain turns to mush when I attempt to understand the glamouring steps! They need to make the glamour dresser even MORE user friendly for ppl like me! Thank you for the video! You rock!

Yeah, I've been looking into this game (and it looks cool), but the glamour system seems like 10x worse to use than the other two mmos I've played (GW2 and warframe)

Would be nice if you just automatically had any gear you pick up have its appearance saved to your glamor dresser and then slap it on whenever without needing to keep the gear until you throw it in there. I guess they were worried about data bloat or something?
@@zeterzero4356 if it worked like that you'd have all kinds of stuff you don't need in there, you'd basically just have a data base of stuff and I imagine that'd be hard to keep track of what people have unlocked. They're already struggling with storage but looking to give us more plates and gear sets in the future. This way you can get rid of things you don't need so it's a little less of a mess. Plus I personally used it as storage for gear I wanted to use for different jobs later. You can always take it back out once you've reached that level and use it. I know you can just give it to retainers but that's not the case for free trial and limited space there too unless you want to buy more retainers.
So I just watched the vid because I thought it might be amusing. I didn't expect to learn anything I didn't already know. Then you did "link to glamour plate" and I don't know how I didn't already know about this.

I have been using one gear set as my city and golden saucer clothes. I didn't want to risk glamouring them because the glamour system seems complicated and I feared destroying them or tying them permantently to one set of gear. This video alleviated those fears somewhat.
Zepla - your vids are SO helpful. You first got me into the game about 5mo ago and I've never loved a game as much. I'm now in HW content and didn't really understand glamour plates, dressers etc. Written online descriptions seemed too complicated. Your vid made it look so easy! Many thanks!!

Thanks so much! I picked up some steps from quests and forum posts yet could never find something lay it all out like this. There are so many nuances people pick up over time and oftentimes when new you don't even know the question lol. The Appearance system in WoW is my main motivation these days, so finally having a better grasp of it in FFXIV makes me want to play loads more now >_

I have never noticed the amoire thing before (at the bottom of the glamour plate bit). . . I'd been putting some stuff (that could go into the amoire chest) that I wanted as glamour in the glamour chest instead of the armoire chest because I didn't think you could do that. XD Thanks! Now I can clear up more space in my glamour chest. XD

I played for almost one year before I realized what the glamour dresser was. I thought I had to manually glamour all my gear one....at....a....time. Now I have 8 plates ready to go. Great video zep!
All these years and I never knew I could link plates. I always just manually switched plates when switching jobs to have the job exclusive gear. Like I like the base GNB set on my GNB but like the level 80 set for my DRK so switching tanks from being edgy bun with gunblade to edgy bun with big sword was a bit of a hassle. Thanks, Zepla.

Coming from WoW, It took me some time to get my head around how it worked. Plates - are fantastic. Way better than Transmoging individual pieces. It would be nice if we had more than 15 since we have more than 15 jobs and classes. Glamour Dresser - works okay but is not as convenient as Transmog. I made the mistake of putting in all the armor sets I collected at 45 and 50 as I leveled each job. I had to take a lot of it back out. I've been leveling groups of jobs that wear the same armor together and then getting rid of the armor as they reach new points - yesterday WHM and AST both reached 70 so I got rid of the Level 60 Augmented Shire Gear because I switched them to Scaevan. I wish I had a way to keep it. I do like that there is so much gear without armor type restrictions, though.
So, this is basically how I thought it worked. Glad to see I figured most of this out before now one way or another. Question though: If I create a Glamour Plate, each item placed onto the plate removes 1 Prism from my inventory, right? So then each time I switch Plates, it doesn't consume any more Prisms from my inventory, is that correct? I'm pretty sure the answer is no.
Selecting items from the Glamour Dresser or Armoire to be used in a Glamour Plate and saving the Glamour Plate doesn't consume any prisms. In the scenario you are asking about, prisms would only be consumed when the items were put into the Glamour Dresser. Once an item is in the Glamour Dresser, it can be put into as many Glamour Plates as desired without requiring any more prisms. Likewise, Glamour Plates can be applied to the character's currently worn gear as many times as desired without requiring any more prisms.
Great video. Only one thing missing about the glamour system: The glamour gear cannot be of a higher item level (or iLvl) than the equipped gear. For example, you cannot glamour an i400 gear to have the appearance of i405 or higher gear. Matching iLvl should be okay, I think. Unless they removed this rule altogether when glamour dressers were added.
This is exactly what I needed. Everyone the real endgame of MMO’s isn’t raids, it’s transmog!

Amar Ankumar literal me when I first begin ff14, now I have all glamours, that’s the real end game of ff14.
I've been told I need help dressing myself IRL, I never knew I needed help dressing myself in a MMO.
I've been playing for over two years and I didn't know you could link glamour plates to gearsets. This changes everything.
Does it use Prisms everytime you switch to the job that has a linked plate?

My dresser's forever fluctuating between 391 and 399. I need about 30-60m to free up 3-4 slots. Truly, bag/dresser space is the real end game.
Also, 7 of my plates are taken up by glams that use expensive dye. /cry

Correct! Glamour Dresser/Plates only consumes Prisms when you put it in. Once it's set up, it costs nothing to use/activate

Great video. Only one thing missing about the glamour system: The glamour gear cannot be of a higher item level (or iLvl) than the equipped gear. For example, you cannot glamour an i400 gear to have the appearance of i405 or higher gear. Matching iLvl should be okay, I think. Unless they removed this rule altogether when glamour dressers were added.
