CDs were THE media in 1990. This was before the resurgence of vinyl. Tower Records still had a vinyl section but it was pretty small. The early 90's was when I got into the folk scene via an ex-girlfriend, and started listening to people like Leo Kottke, The Story, Sarah McLachlan, and Patty Griffin. That more dreamy production was all over the place in the early 90's and IMO nicely suited this kind of music where you're starting from a pretty basic song that can take on a lot more color and texture. But yeah, I like this a lot more than her earlier stuff -- probably because of all the production work (BTW, most people I know pronounce his last name 'PADG-um". Who knows if that's right!)
I'd bought my very first CD in '91 and had done that switch from vinyl much later than most people I'd known then 🙂 Your 'Padgham' pronunciation is spot-on! 😉👍
Hey Justin- i suspect you have heard the hit Luka from the previous album, and the candidate from this album was Book of Dreams - check out those tracks if you are curious
I'd be _very_ surprised if he'd really not heard 'Luka' before! But maybe it actually is a geographical thing and it had been the bigger Hit than 'Tom's Diner' in Europe (where I'm originally from) and in NZ (where I live now) than in the US!?
Also congrats on hearing Hugh Padgham was on this album 😮

The second song you went into to reflect her music at that time period made me think of Morphine in some of the atmosphere she brings
Dramatic all the same
I like it with a bassline fits the music so perfectly
* behs (not "base") 😉
@mightyV444 repaired
