In a world where everyone is so polarized and so certain of their righteousness, this is the most thoughtful, intelligent description of the situation I've heard to date. If only more people could see it with this level of maturity and understanding.
Agreed I'm really moved by the depth of this conversation. We're so inundated by unscrupulous intentions of many politicians and media it's very meaningful to me to see these guys addressing this moment with sincerity/passion and a genuine desire to understand where we're at. To somehow find a way through it.
If anyone needs more proof that legacy media is dead and doesn't represent the common people and podcasts like yours are the future of open discussion, this should nail it. Well done lads.
They're the new face of legacy media, pushing propaganda with the new fresh face of a group of friends just having a friendly conversation. In a lot of ways it's a lot worse and more insidious than legacy media.
Thank you for having an honest conversation. I don't often hear the Palestinian side from American media sources. I say we blame Britain since they started this whole mess.
As a British citizen I can get behind Britain being to blame. Our country has fucking sucked for years and will continue to do so under the current leadership haha
This is probably the best conversation between friends in the public eye regarding this tragedy that I’ve seen. I think… I hope this conversation has been echoed amongst friends worldwide. Bravo.
the issue with this conversation is that its just a conversation.. everybody knows what the issue is, but no one seems to have the solution. we let things escalate to a point where conflict is inevitable and then try to find who is to blame for... happened with ISIS and Syria, then Ukraine and Russia, now Israel and Hamas. Next will be China who is poking everyone and if someone pushes back, they will be made the villain, they occupied HK and no one said a word... UN is one of the most useless organizations out there..
This is a perfect example of postmodernist morality. Acting as if the issue is too complex to understand, that there is no clear line between the victim and the murderer, as if both sides have a just cause. Add to that the Westernized view on ''outside conflicts'', as if the ''other'' live in a bubble of subjectivity and we can see things objectively, yet again, from an objective perspective, we still can't decide who is on the right. This shows that the West has lost its moral compass and the moral high ground that it stands on when ''teaching'' the world what is right and what is wrong. If you use your brain for 5 minutes you will see that the Jewish issue is created in the West, that anti-zionism does not equal anti-semitism, and that Israel is a state of evil that is built on a history full of massacres, racism, apartheid, displacement, and war crimes.
They are just a bunch of forever-young cowards. The world has spoken and is evident. Israel is a colonialist murder and Hamas is the result of Israel crimes since the occupation in 1948. So there's nothing "Complex" to analyze. They don't want to chose the correct side of history cause they are COWARDS. period
Genuinely, shame on all politicians and media talking heads that cannot have a nuanced & thoughtful discussion like this. Unbelievable that comedians are the most sane & rational people left in all of humanity. *Bravo to these guys*
Please don't ever say you're just comedians; this is one of the most nuanced, empathetic, and considerate conversation I've listened to since 10/7, and it's very much appreciated.

There is no moral equivalency between authoritarian, theocratic palestine with democratic Israel. Just imagine the horrors if the palestinazis were actually in charge of the entire region.
JJ McCullough - The reason people care so much about the Israel-Palestine conflict is because to much of the world, this conflict has come to be understood primarily as a sort of metaphor for what people perceive to be the fundamental themes of power that define our contemporary world.
@@user-tf3jf2fi6dI see the conflict not just as a regional dispute, but as a symbolic representation of broader issues related to power... political power, military power, economic power, even social and cultural influence.

The importance of understanding two sides to every story is vital and these fellas have just shown why. First time I've listened to people talk about the Palestine-Israeli conflict without feeling biased towards one faction. It's interesting how the soundest of argument is coming from podcasters and not the people in places of power. Flagrant is doing some wonderful job.
Finally I see somewhere someone with common sense and not a polarized view. With great arguments for both sides of the issue. We need more people like you in the media.
What a powerful segment. I have a deep sense of respect for all members of this discussion. I have an emotional connection to the conflict through friends and family, and even then it's clearer than ever that this conflict is directly the result of neglectful leadership and a lack of communication. Both sides have been demonizing each other for as long as anyone can remember, and the refusal to look forward instead of tallying up blame and perpetuating paranoia is the cause of citizens dying.
You guys did this so on point!!! We need more people like you, more people understanding the hussle of both sides!!! We need more peopel talking about understanding, peace and empathiy!
Hey Guys, As an Egyptian i get it, I get how being far from the conflict and not following the events on like a daily Basis that you may be confused of Who's right and Who's wrong (If that's even a thing). A better way to look into it is to look on What's right or wrong (What not Who) and then start make an opinion on the events itself , then go back and see who did these horrific events then any automatic bias will be eliminated. One thing i can't keep out of my mind is that the world is convinced that the conflict started on 7th Oct, and the discussion start from there. it has been more than 75 Years!! Killing Civilians , Kids and Women , Innocent people is disgusting and is an act of terror, so in both sides it should be condemned so go back and look on the numbers and events, then and only then you would be able to make clear statements who deserve to get the terrorism label.
Love this open and honest conversation, as someone not involved directly it's heartbreaking to see both sides so divided and frustrated. Hopefully this will lead to changes, the leaders of both sides have to commit to change one way or another.
There is a mistake. Of the 1400 lives, it is not clear what fraction was military and what fraction was civilian. on October 7 11 military bases were raided. 1
@@rhetoric5173? What 1400 lives are you talking about? I don't care about numbers, fact of the matter is that a war is beginning to unravel. A war that has gone on for the past 75 years but has never seen this level of brutality until now. It's just sad, no matter what side you support.
A brave attempt at seeing and acknowledging both sides of the coin mate! Much more enlightened and deeper than the common narrative, much respect for that. And that thing about that voice, that whisper Jew's hear from that past, that worst nightmare you refused to accept still exists or a possibility, pretty spot on!

With the much-needed thoughtful, balanced, and empathetic position you have taken on both sides, in a future episode can you share what we can do to support? Can Flagrant do a fundraiser that most effectively gets to the organizations on the ground?
I appreciate the attempt to have a measured and even look at this issue. One thing I think you're unaware of is that the West Bank has multiple militant groups who also conduct terrorist acts on Israel and the IDF, and Hamas has many ties financially and in all other ways to these militant groups. The whole reason why they have a presence in the West Bank and in Gaza pre-2006 was because Fatah/PLO literally said they are unable to control the militant groups in their areas, and any time they are given equipment to fight the militants in their own areas the equipment ends up in the hands of the militant groups. Killing or arresting everyone in the militant groups supposedly "creates new terrorists" if you believe that trope. But essentially many of the things progressives are suggesting as solutions has been tried and failed. Even the attempts to shelter the PLO and palestinians in Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt all resulted in those host countries dealing with bombs, coups and other violence against their own people for the crime of trying to host them. (this is the reason egypt doesn't want to open their border to gazans, they would rather they suffer bombings than allow them in.)
So sad that the message of empathy and respect given by Andrew and team is just totally missed on some people. So sad to witness :( It’s hearts like this that will never allow peace.

As an Israeli I thank you for this video from the bottom of my heart. I’ve been looking for anything remotely objective and could only find propaganda of either side. I’ve spent my life protesting the government I even got arrested for fighting for Palestinian rights but I did feel betrayed by the global “left” who seemed to be going so far left it was already becoming Palestinian “right” or nationalism. My vision for peace is exactly what you guys did. That everyone needs to acknowledge how fucked up everything is and how true both narratives actually are . My moms grandfathers grandfather was murdered by Arabs in 1888 that’s pre-Zionism. I still believe now more than ever in peace. I hope that Palestine will be free- but they have to redefine what Palestine is cuz it can’t abolish Israel. Never gonna happen . I hope one day there will be no countries like Lennon envisioned… Perhaps consider making a similar “both narratives” about the history from 1850s to 1948. Again… it was fucked up in many ways and both narratives are true. I hope that if many people actually educate themselves on both narratives and a balanced view then the next generation can make peace.

Thank you for the balanced approach. While neither the oppression or terrorism is justified - I think it’s important to mention how many peace resolutions were offered by one side and rejected by the other without ever offering anything other than destruction. That doesnt mean it shouldn’t be offered again but who knows
While true that resolutions were rejected, I doubt Palestinians at the time could have imagined they’d be in a position to be completely at the mercy of the terms written by Israel, while being governed by corrupt ineffectual leaders or extremists who only view you as collateral damage and good suffering optics for the cameras. The current government of Israel is full of far right hardliners that seem more than willing to oblige Hamas in sacrificing the civilian population “for the cause“. Also, Netanyahu purposely derailed peace negotiations in the 90’s and whipped people into a frenzy which led to the assassination of the then Prime Minister of Israel Yitzhak Rabin. One thing to note, Bassem didn't say why where people taken out of their homes in the west bank, while that's true, he mentioned why 37 kids were KILLED in the west bank, choosing words is highly important in this matter, otherwise good balanced conversation.
Saying you empathise with both sides, is like saying you empathise for the bully who has been bullying the kid all his life and the kid got the courage after 75 years to punch back. For gods sake. How can you be so blind while seeing parents carrying their children in plastic bags.
Sorry to say but this is the typical one sided opinion, a great example for what they were discussing in the video. You should watch this video every day for several days until you get the point. From your point of view what you're saying is true but it's so one-sided as a bird with just one wing. Thus from the whole situation's point it's completely untrue. Meaning it doesn't help a thin hairpin to move closer to a solution, a complete and final stop to this 'tit for tat' fight. In other words to the stopping of all the killings that bring so much pain to the people on both sides. For you on your side children in plastic bags. Horrible.
@@veralegendi9098 the tit for tat was started by the army doing the killing. Before 1947 when there was no country called Israel that whole land was called Palestine and there were people living on that land. It was not an empty land. @@ahsanamir3491 Your answer makes no sense. Who is Norman? What does he say? Anything to do with the understanding both sides' point will lead only to deescalation?
The words are not the source of oppression - for Palestinians the oppression is the source of oppression. If you get Hamas out of Gaza, Gaza gets wiped out but you also won’t get Hamas out of Gaza because everyone whose families got killed will happily go sign up to join and you should be able to understand that even if you don’t agree with it
This is a great conversation, much much needed empathy which is greatly appreciated. Speaking personally, I had no opinions or feelings on this conflict until October 7th, and since then, I have done a tiny bit research on it, and while I still don't take one side over the other unilaterally because it's important to never forgo my right to change my mind given new evidence, information, or perspectives, I must say in response to your final statement that you called for a ceasefire that I was in full agreement with you until I found out less than a week ago that they were in a ceasefire since June or July of this year until October 7th. Maybe that changes things, that's all.
a ceasefire would stop the killings of innocent Palestinians. More than 20,000 are already dead. What more can you possibly want? Israel is not just attacking Gaza, it's also bombing Lebanon and Syria. There is no peace without freedom. Why could Israel limit Gaza's trade activities and ban items like chocolate and coriander is beyond me. Those 1000 lives were innocent but what about the 20,000 ones. were they not? they talked about an Israeli 8-year-old, what about the thousands of Palestinian children?
Its not so true that Hamas doesnt control the west bank. It is. Just this week there was a terror attack in jerusalem where 3 israelis civilians got killed. The terrorist said before hes empathize with hamas. Anyway, we all hope for peace soon. Good conversation
Two things missing from this conversation: 1. The British promised Palestine to European Zionists without consulting the Palestinians. These Zionists then moved to Palestine and were originally welcomed by Palestinians. The Zionists then pursued an ethnic cleansing policy to force out the Palestinians. 2. The US supports Israel without any conditions, consistently protecting Israel at the UN from any consequence of their actions. That means Israel has become more brutal over time, using illegal settlement building, apartheid, collective punishment, child imprisonment, imprisonment without charge, chemical weapons (e.g white phosphorus munitons) with impunity. The US and the West must become neutral in the conflict and allow full war crimes investigations into both sides. This is not an equal conflict. Europeans oppressed Jews, not Palestinians. Both sides must face international law.
Yah sure, you haven't read hadith and quran. Jews had a lot to suffer under the muhammedans, unalived or expelled. Oh, Moh had a Jewish wife Safiya (saw) who he graped after he unalived her whole family.
I generally appreciate nuance when it comes to discussing sensitive issue, but I feel like their take here was carefully worded to avoid upsetting the Jews, specifically those pro-Israel. They went on and on about the anti-Semitism, the 1000+ lives lost on Oct 7th, the atrocities of Hamas, etc. and while those points are completely valid, they barely touched on the absolute bloodbath Palestinians are facing. Over 10,000 of them have been killed (the VAST majority of which were not Hamas), but they didn't mention that number. They kept speaking in the passive voice too, like 'Palestinians are being killed, being ripped out of their homes', not verbalising that Israel is doing it. Israel is bombing hospitals, schools, homes, shelters, and they will not agree to a ceasefire even for the return of their hostages. This is not a complicated, nuanced issue. I have sympathy for innocent civilian suffering on both sides, but it is very clear who is suffering more. It's a shame that so few people in the limelight are willing to take a strong stance on this genocide, but it's understandable. A lot of pro-Israel Jewish people run the media, and the threat of losing your career over a strongly anti-Israel take is very real.
An observation that I have made is that when you attack someone using tanks, helicopters and nukes media calls it automatically a war like in Ukraine, Afghanistan and Vietnam. The first question that arises is always, who is the good and who is the bad guy. But when you don’t have tanks and helicopters, just sticks and stones and you need to fight for your interests, it’s automatically called terror. And we never ask if it’s good or bad for obvious reasons. That’s since 9/11. our society would have called Che Guevara and Nelson Mandela terrorists too by todays standards.
“They hate us because we are Jewish “ is a logical conclusion?? Or rather why these people hate us? Have we maybe done something horrible to other people?
You did jump from Jews being killed to Palestinians fighting, never mentioning how Jews came to Palestine geocoding civilians to claim their land, for 75 years, and then October 7th happened.
You didn't mention Jews living in that land before Islam was even an idea. Then you went to 1947. You also didn't mention the founders of Palestine working closely with Adolf Hitler.
All the people screaming about colonialism in Israel conveniently neglect to mention that all current Muslim majority countries were result of Muslim colonialism/conquest…
this video is perfect for editing and manipulation. it is a perfect video, the only video that I found fair since the beginning of the conflict but it is divided in to parts where it can be edited as if you guys are picking sides.

My family comes from lots of different places, I see antisemitism go unnoticed, and my jewish culture separates me from the average Brit. Now, I feel like even more of a stranger in my own country. People in my own city are calling for my death and the deaths of my people. On top of that, people who are supposed to be smart call for our deaths, too. At this point, I want to move to Israel because at least there I belong even if it isn't the safest place in the world. I want peace with the Palestinians, but I also want a safe place to run to where I belong. I want to go back to my homeland, which is historically Jewish. Please search before Jewish rule who were actually arab Jews from Iraq and Egypt. Jews ruled for 400 years and it’s not the same Jews that are from all around the world. Before the 400 years of Jewish rule, it was the Canaanites and Egyptian New Kingdom which were Arabs. Israel tries to choose the timeline and attempts to eliminate the actual history. Also, DNA testing is banned in Israel due to this reason.
This was a great and balanced conversation. I truly enjoyed this commentary. In my opinion…it starts with empathy. Plain and simple. One has to be able to understand the plight and feelings of others.
As an Israeli, I love how you try the best you can to understand the situation - well done!. There is inaccurate information though, most of Gaza people do support Hamas, in fact they elected them and they support their acts against the Israelis. A proof of that is in the October 7th many Gaza people who are not Hamas members invaded into Israel and done horrible things. Regarding the West Bank, most of the Palestinian there supports Hamas as well, in fact this is why they don’t have any election because they know Hamas will win. Regarding the demonstrations before the 7th of October, they were not about how to handle terror but rather about some rules the government wanted but half of the Israelis saw it as act that will harm the democracy. (And the other half didn’t).
As a Palestinian, I feel This was a great discussion and you guys did a great job covering many of the points that don't get covered on Western media like the West Bank, the apartheid state situation, and how the only time we're giving any attention is when we attack back in self-defense and get labeled terrorists. But whenever we're systematically being impressed and then I basically came and rights, nobody better tonight. Thank you guys for a fair and balance discussion
One instance where Jews were not thrown out were when they lived along side muslims in Muslim controlled cities and offered protection from Ferdinand and Isabella in Spain and later in Morocco for centuries.
That is not true. It depended on the leader, and there were periods of severe persecution of Jews by Muslim rulers in Spain and North Africa. When they weren't being persecuted, they lived under the rules of Dhimmitude. That meant you couldn't do things like ride a horse (back then, that was like being banned from traveling in a vehicle), they couldn't build new synagogues and they had to wear special clothes and symbols to show they weren't Muslims. They also had to regularly go through humiliating ceremonies to submit to Muslim rulers as inferiors.
@bham7205 what you are describing was an anomaly that happened during the time of Al-Hakim who was crazy and evern tortured muslims for eating Molokheyya (a plant) and was absolutely nutcase! In most cases, jews and christians made a lot of „Wazirs“ (ministers) and always fled to the east for security
just one thought, the oppression that happened to the Jewish wasn't from the Palestinians, it was from the European , and they are doing the same to the Palestinians since 75 years, so it is not a conflict it is a occupation, it is not about conversation it is about anit humanization the Israeli are doing.

The reason I think Anti-Semitism is less worrisome right now than the dehumanization of the Palestinians is because Anti-Semitism is coming from people with no influence or power, whereas the Palestinians have been degraded, disregarded, humiliated and terrorized FOR DECADES from all directions by people with real power and influence, Politicians, media, you name it, the people who are not only enabling but are literally the root cause of the ongoing genocide. If you have been following this conflict since October, you'll notice that there are mostly common folk who empathize with the Palestinians, and you'll never see any Politician or big media people speak the same way about them..
Nah you act like muslim never using the terms of "Islamphobe" and canceling normal people or even killing people for making cartoons in France Duh muh on Whataboutism
What are you talking about. Like there are literally people who are anti-semitic with influence and power who are causing a lot of this. Iran funds Hamas and Hezbollah. All of their weapons, equipment, wages, food/drink, etc are paid by them. And you are wrong - depending on your algos, you'll see vids with comments from mostly Palestinian supporters or vice versa. You are likely ingesting media that aligns with your beliefs/thoughts/etc,; not everyone feels the same way as you.
I understand that this was a year ago when you could claim that you didn't know all the information, but still, you guys just believed terrorist propaganda like it was true. So I'll give you some real information: 1. The Oct 7th attack wasn't performed only by Hamas terrorists, Gazans were part of it too. Kids, and teenagers, all participated - civilians. It is well recorded and documented, by Hamas themselves. 2. Gaza is not an open-air prison, they have an entire border with Egypt (where do you think all the Hamas guns came from?) but Egypt, unlike Israel, doesn't let them in. 3. The towns around Gaza employed a lot of Gazans, and then those Gazans (civilians, remember?) went to Hamas and told them who to kill first. The IDF even got the maps they used where the houses of the people with guns are marked so that they can kill them first, and the kindergartens are also marked, you can imagine why... 4. Israel left Gaza in 2005. Took all of its people out. The "action of good faith" you want Israel to make? it already happend, and look at the result. Now the IDF is working in the West Bank to dismantle it from weapons, and they have found a lot. Think how Oct. 7th would have looked if Israel had also left the West Bank in 2005? The only reason it didn't happen was the settlements you were condemning. 5. The Palestinians feel that their cry isn't heard in day-to-day lives? Do you know that they have their own UN agency? UNRWA is only for Palestinians, all the other refugees need to use a different one. Notice that you said "Palestinian friends" and not "Muslim friends", did these friends of yours actually have Palestinian citizenship? Or do they have a special status given to them by UNRWA? 6. As for the "Apartheid" - Please do an experiment. wear a Kaffia, the "Palestinian symbol" and go walk in tel aviv. See how it is. Now wear a yamaka (Kippa) and walk in any Palestinian city. Just a hint - you will be fine in Tel Aviv, but if you go to the Palestinian cities with a Kippa, your family will need to pay for your tombstone. and the civilians will kill you, not Hamas. 7. Last thing, until today Hamas has a lot of support among the Palestinians, both in Gaza and in the West Bank. That is why there are no elections in the West Bank because the PLO knows they will lose to Hamas. The last time they lost, in Gaza, Hamas took all the PLO people and killed them. Welcome to the Middle East and the Palestinian culture. Please check your facts next time.
Mans still living in Oct. 7. Wake up, it's been a year and you're still stuck in your echo chamber screaming out propaganda. When your country is affected by an Apartheid, you will inevitably create resistance groups. What hamas did on Oct. 7 was an act of terrorism against civilians, but what about the Nakba, and all the atrocities committed after? Was that not an act of terrorism by the zi0s? The fact that people in the west bank who have no movement of Hamas are so heavily surveyed doesn't feel like an Apartheid? The fact that you have second class citizens in your own country doesn't scream apartheid? Your settler colonial projects don't have an ounce of apartheid? What terrorist acts have children committed for your terrorist organization to kill 17,000+ of them? This is just the holocaust all over again, don't try to justify mass murder of civilians by saying "But October 7"; life did not start there, the Israel backed terrorists committed mass atrocities for decades before October 7. 1. Propaganda. 2. It is an open air prison, don't justify an apartheid. 3. Propaganda. It's sad that you feel the need to justify mass murdering children by creating some flimsy propaganda. 4. Don't call your settler colonial projects "action of good faith". 5. UN is only your friend until it labels you as a terrorist organization. 6. Both sides hate each other, and don't try to make out Israeli citizens as the lesser evil, the polls held in your country display the mass intent to murder all Palestinians. 7. Hamas itself is funded by your government, your people could urge Netanyahu to not cause self-inflicted terrorism.
This video definitely needs an update and I would like to add that Islamophobia should have also been addressed. Plus the thousands of Palestinian hostages including many children kept in brutal conditions (we’ve seen how their cells look like). Ahmed Manasra’s story in itself should spark a million nerve cells. Also, from the thousands of clips we’ve seen of Gazans, they did not say one word of hate towards Jews, even though entire families are being wiped out. Also what about Southern Lebanon innocent children killed and homes being destroyed? This has nothing to do with Judaism and everything to do with grabbing resources so the West can get rich at the expense of indigenous people. I hope by the 7th month you now have come to see this.

Who would have thought wiener pills salesmen could have such a good conversation.
They don't want to chose the correct side of history cause they are COWARDS. period

@@rhetoric5173? What 1400 lives are you talking about? I don't care about numbers, fact of the matter is that a war is beginning to unravel. A war that has gone on for the past 75 years but has never seen this level of brutality until now. It's just sad, no matter what side you support.
Hypocrites, what about the 75 years of oppression

A brave attempt at seeing and acknowledging both sides of the coin mate! Much more enlightened and deeper than the common narrative, much respect for that.
And that thing about that voice, that whisper Jew's hear from that past, that worst nightmare you refused to accept still exists or a possibility, pretty spot on!

The whole situation is awful while regular Palestinian and Israeli civilians pay the price.
Those peace resolutions weren't offered in good faith though if you look at them objectively.

The words are not the source of oppression - for Palestinians the oppression is the source of oppression. If you get Hamas out of Gaza, Gaza gets wiped out but you also won’t get Hamas out of Gaza because everyone whose families got killed will happily go sign up to join and you should be able to understand that even if you don’t agree with it
finally a smart chat on the topic
Both sides have violated ceasefires, this does not justify the mass killings of civilians
Its not so true that Hamas doesnt control the west bank. It is. Just this week there was a terror attack in jerusalem where 3 israelis civilians got killed. The terrorist said before hes empathize with hamas.
Anyway, we all hope for peace soon. Good conversation
Two things missing from this conversation:
I Agree 💯 I wouldn't even consider this a war but you can fill the blank.
Yah sure, you haven't read hadith and quran. Jews had a lot to suffer under the muhammedans, unalived or expelled. Oh, Moh had a Jewish wife Safiya (saw) who he graped after he unalived her whole family.
funny how in the video about welcoming truth you chose to put out blatant lies without even little understanding of what happened
#1. Incorrect
#2. Very misinformed
Che Guavara actually was a terrorist...and a racist.
So hamas now only has sticks and stones?😂
Mandela was considered a terrorist by the unites states till 2008
Che geuevara was a terrorist

My family comes from lots of different places, I see antisemitism go unnoticed, and my jewish culture separates me from the average Brit. Now, I feel like even more of a stranger in my own country. I want peace with the Palestinians, but I also want a safe place to run to where I belong. I want to go back to my homeland, which is historically Jewish.

I understand that this was a year ago when you could claim that you didn't know all the information, but still, you guys just believed terrorist propaganda like it was true. So I'll give you some real information:
I hope by the 7th month you now have come to see this.
just say that you want to say, dont use your lies to hide your hate for israel and jews
