I have done over 30 water pump replacement on Trailblazers and envoys... Just a small tip for you.... You don't have to remove the clutch fan from the fan... It will come out with the fan shroud and clear everything with no problem.. Great video 👍✌
Thanks, helpful video. My radiator top cracked in my '04 Trailblazer and I had to swap it out today. I just pulled the fan, fan clutch and shroud all out as a unit, put it back in the same way. It was a little tight going in but I figured it was better that way than beating up the new radiator trying to put the three pieces back in individually and then trying to get the fan clutch in and aligned to bolt down. No damage to the radiator fins at all. Video saved me a lot of time trying to figure out what all needed to come out though. Hate these plastic radiator tops. No special tool needed, just a Crescent automotive wrench, a cheater pipe and a few whacks with a hammer but I do like the homemade tool you've got there. If the crescent hadn't worked I may have welded one up. It's amazing how much time and frustration just stopping to watch a 15 minute video can save a person, thanks for posting the video. I'm wondering what's next as they say bad luck comes in threes, just finished replacing my torque converter because it developed a crack, I was on a drive testing out the transmission when the radiator cracked...
Just did this job on an 06 Trailblazer. It took about 4 hours total. I did not disconnect the fan or the clutch. I removed it from the front which seemed easier in theory, but in hindsight it may have been easier to follow your directions. Thanks for the video.
Hey brother if u would cut about three inches off the sides of the top radiator hose connection, it's a whole lot easier to get the shroud out if u cut the shroud on each side where your top hos is. You don't have to push the shroud back and working it out ✌️😎
Hey thanks for the great video! Just did this on an '04 Buick Rainier- stopped short of doing the fan clutch, just disconnected the fan itself and was able to weasel the old broken rad (thanks to me learning the hard way on diy engine mount install- lifted engine too far cracked upper area) up and out. On this vehicle the ac condenser sits in a cradle the rad has so I also had to lift the condenser up and out of the way 1st. Thx again for the fyi etc in the vid ps the fab clutch nut came loose easily with a large crescent, still enough room.
Great video .Two things you can do speed up the process . 1. Cut a hatch in the shroud just below the upper radiator neck and that will ease the removal of fan / shroud all together. 2. Use a 36mm long wrench on the sometimes stubborn fan clutch with a hammer. Works every time. Shaves at least an hour off repair time....
I used a big crescent and a two pound hammer and a borrowed tool to hold a back up one hit on the fan bolt, it was on ✌️😜💯🤔 or i meant off, my bad God Bless 🙏💯✌️
thx for posting and all the tips! I just bought an 03 TB today and it looks like the radiator could be leaking. If I have to replace it I'll know how to do it!
My fan broke off the other day whike my bro was driving and it completely shredded all the plastic there. I had to replace the water pump, the radiator, the fan and clutch and I saw a hole in my battery today lol.. it also almost went through the hood! Idk why it just broke off like that.. maybe rust. Thanks for the vid
I have an 03 trailblazer an I took the fan , clutch an plastic cover out in 1 , I didn't have to disconnect the blade from the clutch . Yes you can rent a clutch fan removal kit .
Yeah buddy pita for sure ! And yes them clutches are heavy AF lol Walk awkward heavy at least ... I love them trucks 👍🏻 I actually have a 08 Ss also 👍🏻 tighter then a virgin on prom night !! Lol
Holy crap! Looks like a lot of stuff to disconnect. I've got to replace my 2000 Jimmy radiator. Was going to do it after the fuel injector repair, but seeing this, maybe I'll take all of this apart/off, for easier access to the engine. Oye. What size was nut was that tool you made for? Thx. Keeping my fingers crossed. Already done a lot of work on Jimmy, and haven't broken anything yet (entire rear brakes, now fuel pump sending unit - working my way forward.
about to replace radiator. too late 4 you but there are vids out there where you dont have to take the fan, clutch and shroud out to get the radiator out. one guy does a REALLY great job of showing exactly where to disconnect thing and what to be careful of. his name is keith and the video is just over 9 min long. excellent video!
see josuah keith's video. done without removing all that! this gentleman is very informative, easy to understand, and takes care in his work...just on this job he did more work than he had to. I'd trust him as my mechanic ....good guy ;)
@@FixingWithPassion Hello sir I have a quick question. Upon reinstalling the transmission cooler lines to the new radiator, do I need to loosen up the fittings on the radiator and retighten them with the lines attached, or do the lines simply pop in somehow?
I accidentally wrapped a cord around the fan or something but I gotta get that cord out, I was charging my battery and I went to start it and the charging cables went into the fan but it also went into another part of it but idk how to get to that cord other than taking my fan off so I can get the rest of that cord out….
I'm facing this job on my 2000 Jimmy (after the fuel pump sending unit repair (tank almost off - hanging by the filler hoses, that I'll likely cut tomorrow), and after the fuel injector repair), so am curious as to what nut/fitting, this tool is used for. Thx.
Anybody know how much transmission fluid is on the bottom of the radiator? He said he would say how much there was at the end of the video but never did.
Holy hell that was about 55 more steps then you needed to do... loosen nut and take it out with the shroud all as one after taking the upper hose off in 5 minutes. Everything can stay together. I’ve never seen anyone do it this way lol. And Jesus Christ don’t unscrew the trans cooler fittings what are you doing??? Those clips come out in 10 seconds with a screwdriver without a struggle. This is insane!
Yea...right...lol lets cut a big gap in the fan shroud just slid the fan assembly out.... may as well throw that in there/hack job sorry I do do hack jobs.
@@FixingWithPassion nothing to do with that.. I appreciate taking it all apart but literally none of that was necessary at all. It all comes out as one piece. The clutch fan doesn’t unbolt and the hose and wiring is part of the shroud thus if you pull it out together your golden. I’ve seen plenty of people cut that slit so I know what you mean. But no you can pull it around just how you did it without cutting. The tranny clips are self explanatory. 🤷 I apologize for the rudeness but that was a massive amount of work for no reason (the hard way to the extreme). Also props on the tool that’s pretty awesome. I use a crescent wrench and 4lb hammer. To each their own I suppose. Thanks for the reply.
Why did you disassemble the clutch fan in the shroud? Why not back it off then remove both shroud and fan at the same time? Needless work and a waste of time.

Most accurate video I’ve seen thnx my guy. Gotta get to work now. 💥
One of the best videos on this topic, thanks!

I'm aware this video is 2 years old, but thanx SO MUCH for posting this- It helped me immensely!

Best truck on market I have a 02 with 365 thousand miles running like a baby
I want a Envoy now ;D
My mom has a envoy 04 235 thousand
at 240k on my 05 trailblazer. he's a timex! takes a lickin and keeps on tickin'.

My shroud and fan+clutch came out in one piece
Thanks my friend you have shown me a lot I fix my water pump off looking at your video I went in knowing how to do it instead of guessing
Happy Fixing!
I'm more impressed with the tool you made than the radiator replacement...I had a hard time loosening the damn nut with an expensive tool.
I used a big crescent and a two pound hammer and a borrowed tool to hold a back up one hit on the fan bolt, it was on ✌️😜💯🤔 or i meant off, my bad God Bless 🙏💯✌️

Thank you man!
Thanks! great video.
O yea!!
Very knowledgeable, thank you.
;D
How long did it take you getting it off and then putting it back together

Air chisel works great to remove the fan clutch.
Sweet!

Jimmy might be somewhat different to do, but there all hard work it seems. Lots of things to disconnect.
The Jimmy is easy

The radiator support bolts are 13 mm not 15 mm

Wait until you have to do a cat in the winter...yep...been there ;(
Mine is an 02 and I have put a lot of money into mine and it still needs more work so I’m done with it..

good friend
Thanks for the info!
99% of the job is having the right tools
Can I take out condenser without removing radiator????
You can but its a lot of work
Nathan Rohrbough thanks for the reply! Think I’ll go the hard way since I end up there anyway 🤣
You can rent that tool at O'Reilly and get ypur money back when your done using them

Whats the tool called?
That big lug spins my pullys and cant get to loosen but its a buick rainer
Hard to get too

You can rent the tools at Autozone
cool
You can't simplify that video. You know dump it down for the mechanically inclined.
Forgot to mention that chunk of rubber on top of radiator slides off after spraying some oil in the two hole and little prying....
I didn't have to take all that off

Do a video then, show "US "... how its really done then...lol It doesn't work that way.
This isn't a blazer
