    You did forgot some steps. The Injectionpump has a hole at 3 0´clock there you have to put in a round locking tool too. When camshaft in the rear locked you have to unscrew the bolt in front before doing a new belt on. From back by slightly hammering lose the cmshaft gear. While tightening the new belt it has free play to adjust. After that tighten the bold again. Then remove bith locking tools. To adjust the injection timimg you use a special dial gauge for Dieselprimimg time. Greetings from germany

    Use nail polish or a concrete nail mark all 3 tb pulleys and put it back in. You must change tensioner its a bearing and thats very important. .

    My wife and I have an ‘80 Dasher Diesel wagen and I know I need to replace the timing belt on our car. We bought the car recently and it had been sitting since 1994. I’m not going to risk the engine. The belt is being replaced. Could you list your citations for the information, please? Ian it ildound in the Bentley manual?

    I can tell that the 1.5s are abundant in the great provinces of Canadia. I'm in the US and parts are impossible to find, how much for a set of pistons up there?

      Ian Hennessy Your clueless bud. If I need parts for my 1.5s I order them from the United states. There is no parts for anything in Canada we buy everything from The United States.

    you shouldnt be able to rotate the belt 90° on a diesel 90° for gasoline engine 75° for diesel engines

    bad advice apparently and apparently missing steps as this motor died a week later, not surprising see alllll comments below

  • @aut0mat0r

    "Em kay one." It's always entertaining to hear that. You left out so many steps (including determining WHY the old belt was being torn up (probably from a mangled intermediate shaft pulley)) that the video should be called "Half Assed Attempt at Timing Belt Replacement."

    • @Euank

      aut0mat0r like everything timing belts get wear and tear shut up dumb ass

    • @davidparker9676
      @davidparker9676 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Euank Just because it ran after the belt change doesn't mean it was running right. Read through the creator's comments and you will see the low mileage engine died shortly after. Hmmm, I wonder why.
      Diesel engines require precise timing of the belt AND the pump. I guarantee this timing was off on both the belt and pump... I 100% guarantee the pump timing was way off too.

      @chcm5876 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidparker9676 Hi, out of interest (no offense), I'm planning to do the timingbelt change myself on a MK1. What else could he done to ensure it was good (he locked camshaft, and verified TDC, also pump was locked down) ?

    • @davidparker9676
      @davidparker9676 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@chcm5876 You need a cam lock, a pump lock, maintain the crank at TDC, loosen the cam gear. Inspect or replace the cam, crank and intermediate shaft oil seals. A new water pump is a good idea too.
      When the new belt is installed, you need to use a special dial indicator tool on the injector pump to make sure you have the right amount of pump lift.
      You can get the diesel timing kit on amazon for around $90 USD, it comes with the essential special tools to get your pump properly timed. The kit is featured on another TH-cam channel called "Joe fixes it". It is made by EWK.
      Another helpful video is from "VW DIESEL.net " on how to do the timing procedure.
      If you do not time the belt and pump correctly, you can severely damage your engine
