Wonderful. Love how you took your time to explain step by step procedure on how to align the timing gears and the that of the distributor. I helped me a lot but I have a little challenge. After replacing my car's timing belt and tensioner roller, I started up and heard a rubbing sound. I checked if the timing belt was rubbing against the timing cover but it wasn't. The timing belt tension was alright. Then I listened closely from under the car and it seem the rubbing sound was coming from the crankshaft sprocket area supposedly though not rubbing, please how do I get rid of the rubbing sound? Could the sound be coming from the oil pump? Thanks as I look forward to hearing from you👍

Thank you for the helpful video. I did it all by myself today and I'm proud. But it took me 8 hours instead of 2. The previous mechanic stripped some of my allen key bolts on the pulleys, it was a nightmare to get out. Resorted to welding the Allen key on and removing. Bought new bolts. It is strange when I removed the belt, the fly wheel went out a little, at least my cam marks were still in place. I only needed to replace my pulley as the mechanic never done this and it was making a noise

Yes a Cambelt job for the first time can be daunting because all you thinking is not to mess up the timing 😊but there's nothing wrong in taking 8 hours ., because you were being thorough..and u had the issue with the stripped Allen key bolts ,but at least all that is now sorted and you got everything back together again...It's such a rewarding feeling when you get that job done and the engine starts and runs nicely..

@@pjs-golfmk1-diy it will be a breeze in the future now thank you. But the noise never came from my tensioner. When it started up for the first time I left all my covers off just to make sure there were no issues, only to realize after this entire tensioner replacement, it's my water pump what bearings, as i removed the fan belt and started her again without auxiliaries. Turned the water pump pulley by hand and saw the noise is originating from there. Timing is on point though thanks to you, she never sounded better. Tomorrow I'm replacing the water pump.... again.... at least I learnt something new, you deserve more subscribers

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy

No it shouldn't..if you line up the intermediate shaft with the crank pulley.,then rotor should line up with the notch on the distributor.,but if it is not 100% in alignment then just adjust it by loosening the 13 mm bolt on the distributor and move the rotor onto it's notch at the distributor

Spanner or socket ..,and loosen the Allen key Bolt

  • @kapteinsuperskoot6986

I just discovered an easier and more controllable way to set the tensioner (without special tools).
Take a 3mm Allen key, insert short end in rear adjustment hole on tensioner, and lever across mounting bolt. Very controllable, and more than enough torque to tension properly. Also enough space left for spanner to tighten mounting nut.

Hi .you only have to take the cambelt off the sprocket.no need to take it off all the pulleys. Just ensure you first put sprocket on timing mark...in line with tappet cover ..once sprocket is off replace the seal.when putting back everything ensure all timing marks are in line...your intermediate pulley may move a bit as you put back the belt ...but just ensure the rotor is facing the notch on the distributor..(firing on No.1)..handcrank the engine twice before start up to.....ensure tensioner is tightened correctly.

I wanted to know. I was driving around 140 km/h and my timing belt snapped. I was in a new town so i had to get a mechanic from anywhere I am becoming very suspicious as everyday its a new issue. I stopped immediately after it snapped but then the mechanic says that as a result of the timing belt snapping it broke some of my valves of which i he said he needs to buy a new valve kit which also includes seals and gaskets to my suprise. me not being the mechanic i gave him the money to go buy. I only evr saw a new timing belt. He started it and apparently a water pump failure that occured as a result of the belt snapping caused there to be a milky substance on the fuel cap so he needed to buy anothe head gasket and water pump. The next new item was a new head gasket. after it was installed, he said since he just put on a silicone we should wait before we start up the car, next thing I hear when i came back later after he had started the car was apparently that the distributor rotor that was faulty and as a result the car was mis firing. and this car was running smoothly before and there was no problem either then a snapped timing belt. could all this be real
