    This week we talk about how to hang cabinets using the French Cleat system. This is the ideal way if you are a one man cabinet shop or you are hanging cabinets by yourself.

    It was a little flimsier than I expected. I had to add a 2x2 piece of wood to the bottom on the rear side in order to stabilize it better th-cam.com/users/postUgkxXTh-lz-8W6GcB219vTLp27-MxbZYObBX . It is also starting to bow a little at the outer wall ( I've had it up for about 6 months), I've already had a shelf tumble down because of the bow and the fact that the little shelf brackets are quite short. I went out to home depot and got some longer ones so that the shelves don't tumble down again. Overall, it looks very nice for the price and it holds a lot ( I use it as a pantry). I am very satisfied with my purchase. I just strongly suggest reinforcing it before putting it up.

    This has to be the most helpful video I have watched, as I prep to install new cabinets in January. The tips in using the laser level to assist in getting the cabs plumb are brilliant! Thank you for posting this.

    Great video, the laser trick for the outlet cut out is sweet. I have a Magnet system That's made for drywallers but works great for cabinets except when there's already outlets installed So I'll definitely try that laser trick instead of measuring On my next install,thanks!

    New subscriber here. I am helping my daughter put in a cabinet over the toilet. I like the cleet system but the manufacture of cabinet provided a short cleet and Sheetrock anchors. I do not do anchors for hanging something heavy, so I am going to get a strip of wood and cut an angle for the cleet. This will span both studs. Anyway the cleet system seems to be straight forward. Thanks for your video. I realize it has been 3 years. I wish you all the best.

    Great video,. It would be helpful to have you share your thoughts of the thickness of the cleat to be strong enough to hold the cabinet. Also the few people I know who have used this system strongly recommend the back of the cabinet be thicker and prefer 3/4" vs the 1/4" or 1/2" some cabinet makers use. It would be nice to here your perspective given you use this method often.

    Hi, did you build your cabinets and incorporate the French cleat into the build or these are modified factory cabinets with a cutout to accommodate the wall cleat.

    Thank you for sharing your time and experience with us. Is there a method used to know that your cabinets are truly aligned to the laser line. Without having to use a manual level as well.

    • @ericreason6559
      @ericreason6559  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Peter Batah I see what you are asking If it’s on the line you should be good but old habits die hard and I still check it manually but really the laser is more accurate than our levels.

      @@ericreason6559 Thank you fro the prompt reply Eric. Much appreciated. I'll be wall mounting several 2'x4'x6" acoustic panels. My plan is to have them all set at the same height. I suppose one of the things that I can do is to choose a corner or point on the panel and assure that it runs evenly along the top or bottom edge.

    I just tape the bottom and top french cleats rails togther, place on wall to find studs, and then lift cabinets with jack up to rail for mounting. Remove tape if needed to pull the rails appart or just cut tape. I also use to 2 french cleats rails - one top and one on bottom.

    Is metal French cleats more stronger than wood cleats? The wood is cut at 45 degree angle, I am afraid the thinner part can chip easily.

    • @ericreason6559
      @ericreason6559  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Snow G yes a metal cleat would be stronger depending on the thickness etc. I learned their trick from a guy who spent his whole life doing trade show exhibits a they would hang ridiculous amount of weight on those things.

    Good video! What type of laser system did you use? How do you ensure laser is level?

    • @ericreason6559
      @ericreason6559  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Elvis Huff it’s a Bosch system. That’s a really great point about insuring thst the laser is level. I know that it has a function that it self levels but Of it’s to far out to self level it will blink. I haven’t had an issues otherwise but would be curious if you have another way to verify level.

    Have you ever gone tight to the ceiling with a cleat setup? Thanks for the video.

    • @g.m.forsythe9626
      @g.m.forsythe9626 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Flush to the ceiling is not possible with a French Cleat, as the cleat attached to the cabinet has to be raised so that the bottom edge clears the top edge of the wall cleat, and then the cabinet cleat settles down into the wall cleat. If you're using 3/4" material for both cleats you will not be able to get closer than 3/4" beneath the celining.

    You should consider having a lower board near the bottom of the cabinet for support out from the wall to eliminate any wiggle. You could even put a couple screws per cabinet into the lower board for additional weight distribution.
