It’s funny how we foreigners go to Philippines 🇵🇭 and we become tight ass. The 🚕 taxis don’t make that much money you know. And we haggle on everything .But in our own countries we say nothing at our local malls and supermarkets.we don’t mind paying $3 dollars AU for a can coke or top dollar for our groceries even though the veg is a week old .. gets me how the foreigner becomes sooo tight in a country where we know the ppl work hard for little and don’t waste there money on sh#@ like we do it’s for there foods . So ppl when you catch a taxi or buy from markets just think does it really matter if we pay a extra 100 or 200 php / a few dollars !!!
Layne Fischer I don’t think it’s about being a “tight ass”. It’s more about budgeting. When I travel other countries I allocate just a certain amount of money and usually don’t have room to adjust so if I can save a few dollars by haggling, I would do so. My biggest fear is running out of money while traveling in case of an emergency so I try to save as much as I can when I can during my travels. The best way to not have to haggle though? Research how much things usually are in the country before traveling so you know if it’s the regular price and you can budget for it.

Layne Fischer First of all, thank you for your generosity, I’m sure you make people happy and there’s nothing wrong with it. I for one find it so tempting to give extra especially if they are so nice but then again some people don’t always have extra money like some people do, we’d rather not make a culture in the Philippines that passengers have to give extra for most of the time because we don’t want them to expect it from passengers as a norm and really people should be able to take taxis with a right amount of money with no guilt of giving tips to drivers because that’s exactly what we want from them , the openness and honesty when it comes to taxi fares. Whilst we appreciate people ‘s generosity it can have a negative effect in the long term which may not always be in favour of the commuting public, and really we’d rather have a culture of not giving taxi tips in the Philippines to eliminate future discrimination to people who can’t always afford. Peace x

I never said anything about not paying the local prices. $1k to get there u doing all right any. Try $1600 . Next time just think what a few extra pesos will do for a Filipino... guess ur not a tipper either ,if your $1k is a lot .. lol I’m just stating the facts.
We were amazed by Spiral Buffet Breakfast too! We have been to many countries and to many 5 star hotel breakfast buffets...BUT Spiral is really unbeatable! Some 5 star hotels have like 2-3 cheese kinds placed on the buffet. At Spiral, there is a Cheese Room with some waiters just taking care of like 20-30 different kinds of cheese...Everyone should try this Spiral Breakfast Buffet at Sofitel Manila...We are not a fan of the hotel itself, we like Peninsula Manila much more but Spiral Buffet is a must to try while in Manila ✔

Go to Boracay & Siargao if you’re looking for a beach and also to Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur it has a very nice view. In Vigan, you can see a preserved spanish colonial architecture which may be interesting for you guys❤️

Spiral buffet is actually not too pricey by Western standards and it still manages to be one of the best, if not the best buffet in as many countries you visit. If you come back to the Philippines you should visit Batanes. It's very unique. Just don't visit during the rainy season.

I live in Manila, and although the city isn't a place I'd recommend for tourists, I do love the Sofitel. I've been going there since the late 70s, when it was called the Philippine Plaza. Good choice and glad you enjoyed your stay. I hope you return soon and explore some more.
Why wouldn't you? I've been everywhere, I mean everywhere, and so many parts of Manila are cleaner, more modern and fancier than most European and American cities. So much historical places too.
That was an awesome series! I was born in the Philippines but grew up in Australia so I never really got to see much of Philippines and never really thought of touring it until I watched this series. Go to Boracay & Siargao if you’re looking for a beach and also to Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur it has a very nice view. In Vigan, you can see a preserved spanish colonial architecture which may be interesting for you guys❤️

Spiral buffet is actually not too pricey by Western standards and it still manages to be one of the best, if not the best buffet in as many countries you visit. If you come back to the Philippines you should visit Batanes. It's very unique. Just don't visit during the rainy season.

I live in Manila, and although the city isn't a place I'd recommend for tourists, I do love the Sofitel. I've been going there since the late 70s, when it was called the Philippine Plaza. Good choice and glad you enjoyed your stay. I hope you return soon and explore some more.
Why wouldn't you? I've been everywhere, I mean everywhere, and so many parts of Manila are cleaner, more modern and fancier than most European and American cities. So much historical places too.
That was an awesome series! I was born in the Philippines but grew up in Australia so I never really got to see much of Philippines and never really thought of touring it until I watched this series. It makes me want to do the tour you guys did too! Thank you for sharing this to the world and for showing me how beautiful Philippines can be :)
