I've been watching your videos as of lately and I must say, you have some amazing content! From the knowledge of fish and filtration to the help and advice you give to the koi hobbiests out there. Thank you for your content and I hope to see many more videos coming from you!
I love my k1 bead n its so easy once u get into the swing of it. No faff really n its all part of the hobby a gd excuse to av time away from the mrs. Apart from the casing n media its no different to the blue ones from what i can see.
Where does the dirty water go after the backwash? Do you attach a pipe to an outlet and pump it out externally or does it just flow back into the pond?
Hi lads, love the TH-cam clips. I am currently waiting on my delivery of the new K1 microbead 20 and the Nexus 320+, I was planning on putting two bottom drains to the Nexus and skimmer to the microbead but I'm now now reconsidering the idea of two bottom drains idea. I really like the dimensions of your quarantine pond, what are the pond base dimensions and is that the maximum size for one bottom drain. I will be installing tpr's as I feel that they would greatly assist with water circulation. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
right just came across your video , so your feeding your bead filter straight from the bottom drain , no settlement chamber can you explain why please .
@@TimWaddington that's what i aaked , why no settlement chamber ? Surely all solid matter enters the chamber with a high loading ? What stock load could you expect using just this method . I understand the surface area of the media , but no vortex ,seive, drum , to remove solids , i don't get ? Only asking as i still run an answer in a vortex with a bead filter .
@@timkirk5708 I run 3 ponds with very high stocking rates at the shop just on these units. The water is perfect, it’s the media. On outside systems then I would definitely put something before so debris dosent ruin the pump but the filters take care of any solids. Wait for the video this week, it’s on this very subject
@@TimWaddington The reason i asked is I'm installing a nexus 210 gravity fed then pumped through a challenger bead , but obviously the nexus acts a settlement chamber , as my pump on the answer needs replacing and it was cheaper to get a second hand 210 & upgrade my main pump uv and separation chamber , looking forward to the next video .
Seems a real faff! Why not fit a check valve between the blower and valve? Could fit a pipe to waste with a tap on top of the bead- that would stop you losing the plug and spraying water every where.
I’ve got an econobead 50 on my set up but I’ve never taken the valve right of when I flush my system would u recommend I do in the future and how often would u recommend I open the sludge valve at the bottom? Great vid thanks 👍
Fundamentally good design but again with EA too much trouble with cleaning. Only when they realise that high maintenance is not wanted by private pond owners will they gain ground against drum/ low maintenance setups. I love the tempest idea but too much maintenance, love the idea of beads but again too much maintenance. Pse EA learn what automation is. Good vid tho.
I hope they don’t. I couldn’t run a drum on this system because I couldn’t get the flow. Even if I put 4 drains into the drum it would only pull from the closest line as water finds it’s easiest way. So the other 3 ponds would have a lot of debris and no pull. Then I couldn’t run a 20,000 pump as the drum couldn’t give me the flow. So I wouldn’t be able to increase the flow from the initial Nexus, if anything I’d be in the same position.
@@TimWaddington As i said good design, its seems a great system but they need to sort some automation out. they took too long to come out with the nexus automation kit.
Tbh I've got a Tempest takes about a minute to do a clean. I don't understand what other maintenance is involved🤷. Also turning valves on a bead is hardly too much maintenance. Yes it's more work than a drum, but definitely less than say a multibay. I think I could do a clean on a bead, in the time it takes to drunk my morning coffee🤣.
Looks the absolute business but looks way to much effort very dissapointing from a aqua product also that pressure realse screw will get lost in no time.. just way to fiddly in colder months aswell 😑
Evening Tim/Paul, never seen a Bead clean so thanks for sharing :)

I cover the lid to keep it dark to stop the green growing. The ultra bead has a one way valve to stop water getting to air blower.

No difference. Leave it 5 mins and turn a handle 4 times. People just want to moan.
@@TimWaddington haha your right there 👍🐟🤣
We need some additional bio filtration for our koi pond. Is a filter like this suitable for that?
Yes. They are excellent
Amazing videos and work. Truly inspiring! Comparing water clarity from the bead to a nexus\eazypod, is there a difference?
The advanced does it quicker I believe but when mature both should achieve the same
Are you using this k+ A from the bottom drain ?
Yes but it’s an inside pond so no debris. Don’t do it on an outdoor pond
Where does the dirty water go after the backwash? Do you attach a pipe to an outlet and pump it out externally or does it just flow back into the pond?
Hi mate, just wondering if the waste line is also under pressure?
Yes as you pump the waste
What flow did get ?… I looked at the pump flow curves online and the slightest resistance or head pressure really restricts the flow
Still good tho
We believe we are getting around 10,000L per hour split between 4 ponds

This is a Kplus advanced. It’s not like a normal bead. Why would I use a settlement chamber?

@@timkirk5708 how big is the pond?
Why is there not a double check valve fitted on the blower that would save the blower from ever being damaged by people not following this procedure?
They fail.
@@TimWaddington muck getting built up on the valve seats?
@@jameshudson2587 I don’t know but they used to come with the check valves but they failed.
@@TimWaddington okay mate looks a quality bit of kit mate
How's the water clarity using these new bead filters.
Been great.
Amazing...
Is this the same cleaning process used in the earlier k1 micro bead video?
Yes mate
Seems a real faff!
Why not fit a check valve between the blower and valve?
Could fit a pipe to waste with a tap on top of the bead- that would stop you losing the plug and spraying water every where.
You should have a one way valve fitted between blower and valve
They tried and and the one way valves failed under pressure
Yep I thought that. Was actually thinking of buying one to be honest but after seeing how much of a faff it is, I may need to re think
Check valves just get shitted up and pass
Wow, quicker and easier to clean my multi bay than that malarkey!!
It really isn’t though, is it?
Good vid. Too much hands on and waiting in the cleaning process for me but if it does an excellent job I would consider buying.
So micro bead or the new k1 plus ?
K1 advanced
Really 1600 gallon water used when cleaning, this seems like a tremendous amount of water to lose in one filter clean?
1600 gallons?! What?
Tim,onthe video you say that the water has dropped an inch and thats about 16 hundred gallons?do you mean the pond is 1600 gallons in total?
How many gallons approximately does it use on a full clean?thanks
@@tonypizzaman985 a 24” is probably 100 gallons but it’s a water change.

I’ve never opened the bottom valve really at the bottom. I just take the valve out on the top. You can leave it in.
@@TimWaddington ok that’s great thanks for the reply 👍
Why don’t EA do flow meters on anything seeing as that’s what all of this is based on? Thanks
A decent one is pretty expensive unfortunately.

EA is behind the curve now, time for them to start knocking out decent combi's at a competitive price.
