I like their Pop album. It's not my favourite of theirs, certainly (Achtung Baby is that, followeed by Joshua Tree) but I think there's some very good stuff on Pop. What I love about U2 during that era is that they were doing something very different sounding for them. They were more experimental, more adventurous and creative. The whole of the 90's was an amazing decade for the band, imo. Zooropa is really good too and the Zoo TV and PopMart tours were great. They're still great, of course. I just wish they'd get a bit of that adventurous spirit back! :)
I agree. It did have a couple of questionable tunes-Miami....and maybe Velvet Dress. If that album was from a group nobody'd heard of, it would be a brilliant debut. The band were following the progression from Achtung Baby to Zooropa, this was the next step. Let's be honest, there's no reason the 2 previous albums should have succeeded. They were very experimental. No reason this should have failed, based on that. Had 5 massive UK hits, and the last US top 10 of their career, so not half bad there.
I think U2 need to grasp the concept of the calamity that is contemporary playing and the professional approach of extreme tightness of the rhythm section. I’m a musician that continues to fail but i think experience of the gutter has thought me,,,sorry I can’t tell you it’s all i have.
Pop was a great tour... The album, however, Lacked U2. It was an experiment. And they didn't like what they created and most "U2 Loyalists," would agree with the band. And what did U2 do after Pop, they left it behind and kicked it to the curb for awhile. They sure have bounced back from their version of a "Musical Fart."
I miss the music they made that gave you chills
All things said and done.it’s magical the story about U2 well wear the boys from north Dublin Ireland
Thank you much for sharing this show. Hope you have more in your drawers. Cheers.
