We're excited about today's fishing trip! We haven't targeted Striper in some time. So, we're hitting the Rio Vista dock and casting out into the Sacramento River and bringing YOU along with us! We'll be tossing Anchovies, Sardines, Jerk Baits, & Swim Baits!

Hey JU!!! How you been boss? It kind of was... the day was just 74 with part cloud cover and the winds just 4-6mph. Finally got a recent trip with good bites (roughly 35 bites).... also sweet to see a Striper again, been some time since we fished them. Hope all is good with you & family JU!

Suggest you get some heavier gear for stripers in that area in fall - spring… Very strong possibility you hook into a decent fish that would burn that gear.. Summer months you’ll run into primarily juveniles but you don’t wanna be outgunned when you do hook into a solid one. Good luck..
I hear you there to be sure! Not to mention of course we have plans to Striper fish this Fall Run. Though I do agree with you, I have pulled up nearly a 3 foot Salmon in the past on 4 pound test. I know bit of luck it didn't give it's all during the fight. It did fight though! Come fall considering using 15lb-20lb test. Maybe still a tad light, but think I can work with that. Atm our larger poles have 10lb and maybe some 12lb. But we're often fighting them on 8lb.

I lived in Rio Vista for quite a while. I fished there dozens of times. The biggest striper I caught was 14". Biggest sturgeon was 40". That area is notorious for snags.
Also, it looks like you're fishing during high tide. Try on the incoming and outgoing tides. It's pretty much dead during high tide.
Right on I'd recon you'd know the area fairly well. Though we've fished the "Dock" location a fair number of times. It's not that many. We don't get snags on the Docks as bad, but yeah by that Pier has some NASTY areas! I hear you on the tides, many times when we go we're there for 2 tide changes. Think largest here now is 18 1/2". But I soooo hear you. We also pulled up many shakers. Honestly I was thinking perhaps since it's a Deepwater Channel and wide. The larger ones are just out further. Also thought we just need to upsize the lures & baits.

The striper run has slowed alot. They are all up in north Sacramento river. They are alot slimmer now too. Sardines are the hot bait right now. Evening bites still producing. The big hogs are hitting off live bait fish like pike minnow.
Jay, thanks for the info! In all honesty I had gathered the same. We had just got a late start on the Striper run but had a desire to hit Rio Vista again it had been a good 6+ months. Think we tossed some Sardines also on this trip, and we JUST returned there (video will be up in a few days) the 2nd trip we were out of Sardines, still caught a bit larger one than these.
The live bait thing is tough for me. I'm not into causing pain/suffering to fish/animals. Thou I've tossed a FEW live Bluegills out. Pains me each time. Alas we'll try again sometime... of Live bait's we have tried Mudsuckers, Pile Worms, Blood Worms, Grass Shrimp, Bluegill. Only things that got bite were Pile Worms & Grass Shrimp. Alas most of those bait's we've only tried 2-4 times. Mainly using Anchovies & Lures.
Ironic, Lea wanted me to keep/cast the Pike we caught out. Alas see mentioned it as I was already releasing it. Been having heck of a time getting them to bite of Jerkbaits as of late. Well thanks TONS for the info! We hope you're enjoying the Fishing Video(s)!

The trick with the pile worms is to remove the head, and that way you don’t get bit.

Haha funny thing is... I didn't even think of that. All good I just kept playing finger dodging while trying to hook it heh. Got few on kind of draped & balled up. While others threaded through most the body. Side note... both the Worms & Anchovies got similar action!

I did my friend... I did. Lucky the early day had some stunning clouds and a strong breeze kept us a bit cooler. On a side note we do hope you enjoyed the fishing video(s)! Oh for the record... hate baiting those creepy Pile Worms! Tight lines...

Thank you much! Lea often logs that stuff and at times makes some buys. She'll see your comment later. We do have some "spray scents" and use them at times. Do recall days when not even they seemed to work. You also have those days with the spray? Thanks again... hope you're enjoying the fishing vids...

Thank you boss for sure! Funny you brought that up. We've been talking, time we got some Bay fishing in for a change! Just a bit of a drive for us. What's your thoughts on the Alameda, San Pablo & Antioch piers?
Was considering targeting Lepard Shark while Lea wants to target Halibut.

@@hershisadventuresincalifor9725 havent tried any of those but I do have a buddy that fishes the Antioch side. I've had more luck on Berkley dumbarton and anza (up101 at the embassy suites in burlingame) pier. Berkley is best fished with live bait
@@Coach_Sortonis Right on thanks again! We've been talking about when we'd try the Bay. Know we'll still a bit out from there, but gonna get another Reel perhaps rod few other things we don't use in the Rivers/Lakes. Also a pier drop net. Glad you mentioned it though! Recently we encountered Miller Park, which we actually enjoyed due to the Sandy Bottom. Man snag free was great! heh

@@Coach_Sortonis Hah maybe that's why you're on the channel. We're around that area also and fish some spots around here. Actually really like Westgate Landing. Funny thing there though. Many times it's FEAST or FAMINE. Hope you can get out and squeeze some trips in....

Funny thing is boss, did you notice when I had tossed it back Lea had said something and I turned to look. Tad bit annoyed. Lea had said as I was already tossing it back "lets use it for bait".
Reason we didn't, I was uncertain as to the type of fish. Thou it did look like a "bait fish", which I think are all legal to use as Live Bait. So didn't care to risk being wrong. Thou I have called DFG directly to ask about using Live Bluegill as bait in Cali. They said, yes it's perfectly fine. Just don't "Transporting Live Fish".
I'm sure you've heard also that Golden Shiners also work well. Tried Mudsuckers in the past, didn't get any bites thou. We hope you enjoyed the video(s).....

Oh did you see when we pulled it up? Naaa nothing. Odd as in the past we've had Crawfish actually hanging on to our Anchovies & Worms as we reeled in (not commonly thou).... I was thinking the SAME thing... looking toward that main bridge right? Yeah always towards the wall. Do enjoy Westgate Landing for Bluegills. We hope you enjoyed the vid(s) boss.... tight lines!

Funny thing is my man, the bites were there! I'd guess we had 28-35 bites. Many times was 1-2 bites then they stop. So had to be on the alert! Think few of our baits may have been hanging a tad too much off hook. Been some time since we hit up Striper, so was nice to pull of those few!
Few more Striper videos coming up, we JUST finished a trip (need to edit now) and hitting a new spot Friday! Tight lines brother... hope you enjoyed the video!

Yes they call those striper candy, use the same setup you have . Don’t have to throw it too far cause they’re heavy

Thanks Willie! So far think roughly 5+ said a Sac Pike Minnow and think 2 said Split Tail. Wondering... do you know are they the same fish with different names?

Is it legal to fish off the dock there? Most docks I've been to don't allow it. Looked like a fun day with the Mrs.

I never knew otherwise... figured was always everyone having a certain amount of curtesy and making space for one another. But... we've had DFG show up 3 times since we fished there. Once actually chatting with us. Also local business owner at times chatted. Locals, and often see fishermen (and boats) using it. Plus we were sure to check all signs 1st time we fished it. Seen nothing on the subject. There is a boat dock time limit and no swimming from it sign.
On a side note we do hope you enjoyed the vid(s)....

@@raidertwuan This is Rio Vista. They have the dock here as well as a Pier about 1 mile from there. If you find the Rio Vista City Hall. Park in front of it. You'll see the entrance to the dock near there.
While the Pier is VERY close to that large bridge which I think is highway 12. Hope that helps and hope you're enjoying the videos!
They call those fish "squawfish" up here in Washington state. The politically correct name is Northern Pikeminnow....
Heard the term "Squawfish" before long ago. Surely heard of Northern Pikeminnow. Then I'm wondering... do you know is a Sacramento Pike & Northern Pikeminnow one in the same? So far few people mentioned a Sacramento Pike.

Those pile worms are nasty looking, where do you get them? Have no idea what that flash was, maybe the spirit of a drown fishermen. That fish was a Sac. Pike I caught one just a few days ago on worms. Thanks for the video.
Yeah didn't care for holding those Pile Worms. Sadly I didn't record one hook baiting where the worm tried at least 12 times to bite me. Sweet thanks for the note on the Pike, I THINK that was my guess. But was only a guess. Which type of worms David? Yeah what do they call those "flashes" again? Think they call some Orbs while this cigar looking one perhaps "probs". I'm not much into believing all that. BUT.... I can't explain it. Not connected to anything, no sign of it being a bird or insect. It went with the wind, then against it. It was fast.

@@davidgarcia9808 Nice the good old go to bait. Nightcrawlers! I think that's one of the best ideas so far. Sun hitting particals. But if I may David, please correct me if I'm wrong. But would not most particles (since they'd have mass) be moved along the current of the wind? Yet it darted back and forth ever briefly. I want to make sense of it boss... I'm not into Ghosts, Spirits, Aliens (just not visiting our planet) and so on.... but I can't logically explain it. Can't be smoke, I see no insect or bird body, it maintains it's shape, moves rapidly, and against the wind! Also thought a "Glare" but the Camera was on a Tripod. No shinning objects were nearby moving. It's a stumper... wonder if it by some way could have been Sunlight...

Ummm thou honestly feeling Light Reflection maybe the best we can all come up with. One thing for sure. It is something. Wish we knew it's distance from Camera. Would answer a lot. (ok I'm shutting up on the subject, don't want to dull the fishing heh).
Hope others see that end part. Side note it was AWESOME to see the guy some up with a Stick & Line fishing. Oddly I've always wanted to try that... but in like a natural river. Not the Sacramento River heh

Right on thanks boss, we had a few others also say it's a Pike Minnow. That was my guess as well, while my wife Lea thought it was a Shad heh. We hope you're enjoying the videos boss! Tight lines....
