On one of the hottest days of our summer, am finally home from a Saturday morning op shopping (thrifting), and trying to cool off with aircon, ice pack, chilled drink, and drapes pulled. Also dreaming of my favourite seasons - autumn and winter - when I layer on my favourite garments. Have always been the queen of jackets and coats, and I seem to have several.😊 Layers, accessories, boots, gloves, bring it on. I can't cope with summer!
Hi Wendy! Love this!! I can picture you trying to stay cool while watching me talk about staying warm! I have friends in AU and Tasmania ... we chuckle about our temperature and wardrobe differences. Sending cold weather vibes to you! ❄️
Montana born and raised. We just had -30 degree weather here 2 weeks ago, this week it’s 50 degrees! 😅 I think what you said makes a lot of sense, if you have clothing that keeps you warm and you feel good in, winter seems better and it’s fun to get dressed-even if you have to go out and brave the cold, you’re prepared for it. If you don’t have those things, you can dread it more.
Exactly! And -30 might be beyond my limits! I do love how Montana, Colorado, and Utah all fluctuate so much and there's often a temporary reprieve from deep winter. Thanks for your comment. 💝
This gave me some helpful ideas. I live in West Africa, but when I'm back in the US for three months to a year,, I'm based in NW Montana. I don't hate winter, but I prefer warmer weather. When I'm back in MT in winter after years of hot weather, I struggle. Even if I'm fine emotionally, the shorter days and lack of sunshine make me feel tired. A few of these things I was already doing, like adding some color and coziness. I like the coziness of home in the winter, and I'm going to lean into that more when I am next back. Twinkle lights are something I hadn't thought about, and I'm excited to use them. One thing you said really struck me, "A belief is just a thought we keep thinking." I wrote it down, it's going in my journal!
Thank you for your comment. Seems like your two climates and locations are quite different! I'm sure it can be challenging to adapt. Twinkle lights (and battery candles on a timer) make a huge difference in my mood when I'm home and it's dark. Also, the idea that a belief is just a thought we keep thinking blew my mind when I first heard it!! I believe it was Abraham Hicks who I heard say it years ago. So true!! Thanks for watching. 🩵
I loved Lake Placid. I wore winter white outfits, furry hats, and matching boots.I also love black leather gloves lined in fur and I have a Cossack looking double breasted black wool coat and black leather high boots. I love led lights and my fireplace
I love winter, as any other season, it has its own rhythm, its own seasonal magic, its own vegetables, its own festive days, its own expectations. As for dressing for winter, I like the chunky sweaters combined with skirts, the winter white trousers, I like the layering, the chique wintercoats, the tall boots, ... we can dress so elegant in wintertime. BTW, I love your pink sweater. 🤍 Good content!
Hi Leen- You've inspired me to love winter more ever since we first met. Seeing you stay true to your elegant style even in cold weather made me realize how much mindset is at play. Thank you for your perspective! Stay warm, my friend. 💖 And thanks... seems pink is having a moment in my closet. Stay tuned!
For me a huge part of winter dressing is being warm enough especially outside. I love tracking thru the snow in snow boots, a big puffer coat with layers, hat and good gloves. I am also a skier and my ski clothes have to be colorful as well as keep me warm. The long underwear and warm socks are Winter essentials.
Hi Ami- I haven't personally skied in years, but I'm surrounded by incredible skiers here in Utah! They inspire me to layer in new ways! I've thrifted some long underwear for wearing under trousers when it's bitter cold. And I'm collecting lots of fun socks! 🩵
Thank you this was most useful for me. I come from South Africa where we hardly had winter. Never any snow where I lived and rain in summer to cool down the hot days. Well I now live where winter has short days is cold and rainy not really snowy but when there is everything shuts down. I suffer from S A D and have a black winter coat and a black rain coat. Not very inspiring. Since I have been watching and since I have now changed over my clothing from summer to winter I am now trying different colors and combinations of clothing. And have grouped my jackets together and my coats together . And have grey and navy as well but am going to keep my eyes open for a bright colorful coat. Today was a hard day for me as I walk with a cane and had to carry an Umbrella 🌂 but I wore colours together I had never used before and every one commented that I looked nice. Actually I have great style sense and in summer have no problem looking and feeling great. But will reassess winter with your suggestions. 🙏🌺🎉
I am your climate twin… i feel the EXACT a same way about east coast winters… I seriously dreaded them, and even had SAD - seasonal affective disorder? Now living out west, I enjoy my winters much more… the sun is shining almost every day, it’s not wet, no more heavy snow/ice. Still need to combat the cold, so I appreciate your tips!!
hi Kristen, I hate winter! I'm 67 years sick, sick, sick of Chicago winters. First, I would like a happy light for SAD. I think it would help with depression. Next, I hate being cold. This winter I made my bed extra cozy: a new blanket, Rina's beautiful bedspread, a quilt my grandma made, and a bedspread to top everything off. My next purchase will be flannel sheets. I love your idea of fairy lights. Around my windows, over my bed, wherever I think looks good. That's another thing to save for. Ok. I need new curtains. Mine are thin and they don't match. I could use two different colors, but I need them to be the same style. See? You're getting me thinking! I have to admit, I'm not as sure about making clothing changes. I have a cool coat, it's down, but I have to layer it with another down under it. Boots: yes, if I could find an affordable pair that's different from my very typical black snow boots. I don't have a cool hat or mittens. I just grab whatever is there. The fun part would be going shopping in a winter fit that is warm enough and makes me feel happy. Or going to dinner, coffee, whatever. The parts I hate but can't change are scraping my car, starting my car in sub zero, almost getting hit by our crazy snow plow drivers, 34:51 driving in slush. Change what I can, accept what I can't. My dream move would be Arizona or San Antonio (the only place in Texas that I'd live). Or, Mexico or Portugal or the coast of Spain. If I'm ever brave enough to do it alone!! ❤thanks, Kristen!😊🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆🔆
I LOVE your change in perspective!!! You've got this. Once you begin to tap in to the next version of yourself and give her permission to show up fully... watch out world! 💞
I love winter but I hate summer in south Florida. I spend the whole time inside because it’s so hot and I’m always sweating even indoors. I don’t like my clothes either. Can you make a video for humid summers? 😊
Oh, south Florida can be tough. Are you on the east or west coast? My mom lived in Cape Coral for years! The humidity was fun to visit... and difficult to dress in when not vacationing. I'll add this to my list of upcoming video topics. 🩵 I do think that not liking your clothes could be part of the issue. 😉
@@KristenCainStyle Thank you💕!! I live on the east coast lol. I’m just so over tshirts and shorts I think. Haha! I absolutely love your pink sweater that your wearing! 🌸
Very interesting! I don’t like cold weather, and live in Scandinavia. I tend to buy great quality coats, I try to buy them in the sale and then wear them for many years. Now that I'm retired, 80% of my time "in public" is just walking around to do errands in the neighborhood. Color in winter was a huge aha for me. I realized I need color and not just grey and black. So now I have great fleece jackets, including a sunny yellow, and it has been great. I also realized I need to wear a little camisole under things to keep my torso warm. Game changing.

You're back!! Happy New Year. Our Texas winters are unpredictable; one day it freezes, the next day is high 60 temps. I love wearing baby blue vests and colorful scarves.❤
I'm from Chicago, and there is nothing that I like about a Chicago winter (except to see it go🤣) I don't think it's possible to look "cute" here. I can't afford North Face or L L Bean, etc, but I do need to be warm. I found a decent and pretty cool looking camo pattern down coat on Amazon for just under $100 two years ago. I still have to wear another coat (a thin, doen coat) under that! I'd love to have both: style and warmth. ❤❤❤
Hi Carrie- I can only imagine Chicago winters! Philadelphia wasn't much fun. The damp cold is tough to escape and can make it difficult to feel stylish and warm enough. I do know some very stylish women who live in Boston and NYC. They manage with great layers, coats, boots, and hats-gloves-scarves. Lots of pieces required... and spring will arrive soon! 🌷
@@KristenCainStyle hi Kristen! Yes, layers are the answer to keeping warm! I even layer my down coat with another thin down coat! I just thought--thrift stores sometimes hide diamonds - never know what you'll find 'less you go mining! ❤️
There is so much to outerwear. If your boots and your coat are things you hate, the whole season of dressing is icky. You're going to wear your coat every single day for months! Every day! Have to have one you actually LIKE. (I've lived in Wisconsin my whole life. When I stopped trying to wear puffers or other such outerwear, and bought two A-line wool jackets, I am infinitely happier to walk out the door.
Yes!! Having coats you love wearing is key! I resisted this for a long time. Once I started 'collecting' coats I actually liked... getting dressed for cold weather became more fun. 🩵
I'd agree with those who said Outerwear- it makes all the difference. I live in TN and we have temperature swings, but can mostly get away with a lightweight winter jacket/coat- but I love having a variety to choose from, some purchased new, some thrifted, and some decades old! I definitely get excited when it's cold and I know I've got appropriate and pretty outerwear choices. I can remember years of going without the right coat for the weather, and what a difference it makes. And when I'm ready for a change, or to cull, there are always places to donate to help others in need. Welcome back from your holiday break!
I like dressing in sweaters and warm clothes, my current problem is hot flashes, I am learning to layer in such a way that I can be cool then Warm then cool again. But if anyone has any advice i would be grateful.
Ha ha I’m thinking Taylor Swift- red beanie, red n white Chiefs jacket… and I know nothing about NFL 👠💄👠. I would love a travel video. I’m going to my son’s formal wedding at a vineyard on an island . It’s only day one travel on ferry and attend rehearsal dinner, day two wedding and day 3 home. But I’m traveling alone and worried mostly about handling my luggage. It seems like because it’s a wedding I will have to take hair equipment etc and I know all these extras add to weight. I have a very light roller suitcase but am fearful of rolling it overboard. I would love just a backpack but think it would hurt my back. I’m planning 3 dresses, one for each formal and one spare in case one falls overboard. Would love any ideas you have about travel and keeping the dresses in good condition. 💞💞💞💞💞💞
I love the Taylor Swift image! We'll be seeing her version in February! Ooh, the wedding adventure sounds amazing! Agree that the backpack could be bad for your back. It would be for mine. The rolling back will be easier on your body and the dresses. The ferry must have rails to keep bags from rolling out to sea, no? Hope so! I'll add a travel video to my list. Thanks!
Thanks Kristen for helping me sort that one out! Are you going to another Swift concert !? Oh I guess you mean the Superbowl!😁 will make sure I’m glued to the screen! I heard tickets were selling for Nz $20.000🙀🙀

Hi Sheila,
Thank you! Such a great point about donating the coats we no longer wear. Always someone ready to give them a new life. 🫶
I like dressing in sweaters and warm clothes, my current problem is hot flashes, I am learning to layer in such a way that I can be cool then Warm then cool again. But if anyone has any advice i would be grateful.
Thanks for your comment! I completely understand that struggle. I just added that to my list for upcoming videos. Stay tuned... and stay cool! 🩵
@@marionannmacredie Yep, Super Bowl! I'll be watching from home also.
