The person I am buying it for is about 5’5”. The length of the product is listed as 64.9 inches on the carbon fiber as well as on the telescopic adjustable 1511. I’m wondering if the adjustment on the 1511 makes it longer than 64.9 inches or shorter. If the shortest length you can make it is the same as the fixed length of the carbon fiber I would like to buy the carbon fiber. Can anyone here answer that for me?
Some suggestions for minimising or eliminating the line trimmer cutting out if that is an issue ... -A Line Trimmer NOT a lawn mower. Use the right tool for the job and you will rarely have any problems. -Keep the electrical contacts between the battery and the device clean. Use isopropyl alcohol to keep the contacts on the device in brand new condition. Use compressed air to keep the contacts on the battery clean. -Make sure that that the battery is tightly coupled to the trimmer at all times. -With the dual speed unit, try to use it as much as possible on the low speed setting. Added benefit is longer battery life. -Always use the correct gauge of trimmer line. Using thicker line than specified by the manufacturer will lead to premature failure of the unit. -When using the trimmer without a guard - not advisable but many do it - keep the length of the line to no more than the maxiumum length specified by the manufacturer. Should not be an issue if you always have the guard installed. -Don't run the trimmer at full speed for several minutes at a time - especially in hotter conditions. Added benefit here is that it will extend the life of the trimmer motor.
I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use th-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.
I’ve had the carbon fiber trimmer for a couple years now and zero issues here either. That Power Load feature is so convenient, it completely removes one of the biggest lawn headaches we suffered with for years. I will probably buy the power head in the future when I’m ready to replace my edger
100% agree. Every time I ran out of string prior to using the power head units I legitimately thought about getting rid of it so I didn't have to restring it haha.
Recently switched from ECHO srm225 to the EGO 5ah with attachments, build quality is great and it runs my rotary scissors with no issue. Really liking the EGO trimmer so far!
Got burned with a proprietary attachment system - each company's system is theirs alone. They may choose to phase out support for the current system before your battery's 3-year limit, or another company's powerhead will suddenly look great, but you're locked in with high switching costs. Where to dump my expand-it attachments? *sigh* You'll probly see me dragging a #12 extension cord for my crappy electric hedge trimmer and the edger too....
@@jeffrothegamerIf you're cutting really tall, thick weeds, the Echo 2600 is a beast. The Echo 2100 will bog down and cut off of the weeds start getting challenging to cut just like the Ego.
Your review was awesome! Even though this is over 2 years old everything still applies and DEFINATELY simplified things as I was so confused looking at all the different models. You helped me lock in to combinations for the PH1420 which has all the features from everything you described in the video (and multihead). Thank you!
My old B&D blower finally bit the dust yesterday. I had pretty much decided on Ego for a new blower & trimmer, and your video gave me a much needed education. I am vertically challenged and being able to adjust the length and other features of the ST1511T will suit me well. I was planning on buying the 615 blower, but when I went to Lowes, they only had the 650 in stock. Of course I bought it. But they did not have the ST1511T trimmer there, so I had to order it online. They had the blower & trimmer sold together, but it was not the right trimmer. The upside is the 650 blower comes with the 5 amp battery. Whoa, this thing is not a toy! It took about 20 minutes for the battery to finish charging and I brought it outside to clean up what was left from yesterday. This thing is so strong, it scared my dogs, lol. It took no time at all to clean up the sidewalk, street in front of my house and my patio. I can't wait to get the trimmer to see what it can do. With buying separate units, I will have two batteries, one 5 amp & on 2.5 amp. Thanks to your video, I knew what the difference was in the units, and I am confident I will have the right trimmer for me.
10:40 If trimmer repeatedly shuts off after a few seconds during use, your string is too long. Trim (or reel) your line to an 8-inch limit on each side of the trimmer head and it will run continuously again! 👍😁👍
Great info mate I have the Ego blower and it's a beauty, I am looking into getting a line trimmer and your video helped a lot 😊 Second part of this message 2 hours later I bought the last one you shown us and got it in carbon fibre ❤
Heads Up!! You talked about the Carbon Fiber model power kept dying and you just had to stop and restart. I tech these all day long and here in lies the issue. When you run any stick trimmer without a guard and the string length is too long it stresses the gear box on the trimmer, thus throwing default codes back to the head unit and will shut off the machine. This stress also can happen on a gas model, however, the gas engine can compensate for power. Technically running your Ego trimmer without a head guard voids your warranty on your machine.
I know this is a year later but I really appreciate this comment. About to pull the trigger on the carbon steel model and your comment just cemented it for me, as his experience on the bank made me a tiny bit apprehensive.

ST1400 series seems to be the best compromise for most homeowners/non-pros. A decent size (not huge, not tiny) at 13", Powerload for fast string loading, a decent weight/balance, and a middling price. I love the multi-tool head too, but most people don't really need the extra attachments for home use
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!!! Your video was just what I was looking for. Needed to upgrade my original Ego, and was looking for differences available now, i.e. split shaft, straight shaft, aluminum, carbon fiber. You explanations are great. Thank you again!
Thanks great review I picked up the 51T as recommended and couldn’t be happier. Since I’m a first time user of the trimmer my arms need to get used to the weight and motion. It’s a good workout and using muscles I never used before… awesome product
Thank you for a nice review of the trimmers. I have the carbon fiber and the power head/edger unit, and I am thrilled with them both. I have had the edger motor stop if I push the edger forward too quickly and the torque load on the motor is too great. The motors probably stopped for you on the trimmers because you don’t have the safety shield/cutter on your unit, so your string was probably longer than the trimmer was designed. It is possible this puts an additional torque load on the trimmer, causing it to stop.
Just saw this today after I just bought the '21 model.-specifically for the handle adjustments.. very cool. LMAO at the ACDC clip. Had a garage band back in '81 called"TNT". Now I'm going to here Bon Scott singing "I'm a POWERLOAD!" every time I use this thing. 🤘

Lets hope that Ego put all of those features on all of their models. The two speed and the automatic loader and the adjustable handle, everyone would like to do edging (as long as its not too think)
I just got one of these and a leaf blower. Next up is a hedge trimmer. These products are great and perform well! I will never buy small gas lawn equipment ever again.

I really wanted the carbon fiber model, because carbon fiber, but ended up getting the 1511T. Need to use as an edger so it works. Not a big yard so I am not worried about the weight so much. Thanks for the review.

Linear? Does that mean the trigger is variable speed? Can you slow it down (very slow) so when you edge along a chain link fence the string wont break so often?
@@theobserver9565 I recently purchased the carbon-fiber shaft trimmer...It does have a variable speed trigger control, but its range (low to highest speed,) is somewhat limited. Regardless, I'd never go back to 2 stroke.

Ugh! You forgot to mention the best of the best of EGO string trimmers! The ST1620T 16" String Trimmer. It has the carbon fiber handle and the other features you like + a 16" head vs. the 15" heads on your units. This is better than all of those you reviewed and I love it! It was available in 2021 too....
This highlights the problem with battery-powered trimmers: you run out of juice before the job is done in grass that wasn't all that much. For light-duty edging it might be great, but I like to really work mine. Corded seems the best.
How long will the 2021 model operate doing standard trimming time wise with the 2.5 amp hour battery? Most of the ones I have found so far have 2.5 instead of the should be longer lasting 5.0 thanks
Nice video. As of 2023, I see the price of ST1511T (2.5 AH) and ST1523S (4.0 AH - same as ST1521S but this one has 2.5 AH) is the same at $199. Which one you recommend at this price?
Thanks so much for this ! Was headed in your direction in way of thinking and now I’m set ! I don’t think you ever explained though why you have all three trimers. But hey ! They are all EGO’s so no reason to give an answer to me ! 😉
I had bought Ego line trimmer with I Q technology 2 yrs ago. Line will self release. Love it. However i have issues in feeding line & was not releasing too. It warrants for 5 yrs. The time the shop just change to a new head for it. That's great. This 2nd time i have not brought to the shop yet. Just wonder how can i do better next time to avoid this happen again.
Helpful video. Do you have the new bump-free model? For denser grass, don't plunge the head into the thickness. Just use the edge of the string at all times. You technique with the 3rd trimmer was better so you had better results, Also, I think the multi-head one spins in a different direction (counter clockwise?), so you have to adjust your technique to the spin such that debris and cutting edge is going away from you.
Interesting 🤔 I am looking into getting a bit of equipment for lawn care. And I am depending on petrol or electric, I think electric ones won't last long
Just bought the Ego ST1510T , I have a small yard with fence edging and some beds . Should do the job for my minimal needs. Don’t know what the difference is in model numbers. My trimmer looks exactly the same as yours , the third one( the most up to date/ just the trimmer).
I've got the carbon fiber one but it was 249.00 with a 2.5ah battery it does have a 2 speed switch and has powerload but its not the auto feed out iq one ,but it cannot be adjusted
Ego powerload vs rapid load. I like taking the weeds down to the dirt, scalping. Do you know which head has a better angle for that or they both the same. Better yet can you scalp with the powerload?
After many years of faithful service, my Echo 225 has reached the end of it's life I think. Now in my mid 70's, jerking starting cords isn't much of an option any more, so I am in the process of converting my tools to battery. I already have EGO chainsaw and leaf blower and love them both, so I'm now in the market for a string trimmer and after that a push mower. Thanks for review.
Thanks. Nice video. I am debating which trimmer to get. I like the power load to trimmer by my side walk, but depending on the price I will decide. The carbon is out.
Thank you for the video! I found it very helpful. However, I am a novice user who has never done the work! I am trying to help my parents clean up the dry dead tall grass in front of their front yard. Would you recommend purchasing the string trimmer, or should I buy the metal trimmer instead? Please help.
Nice one bro.. but I wanted you to comment further on the battery and charging prosess. Is the battery standard size or different models uses different size battery carrying different power output
I love when you're showing how to edge with the 1511 and saying "a whole lot more comfortable.." and it looks like the exact opposite of my definition of comfort. How much adjustment does the 1511 HAVE, though? You mentioned 2-3" but I've also read elsewhere it's about 12". Which is it?
Thanks for the review. Would you still recommend the ST1511T today? Too many options to choose from! Oh... Was thinking about the EGO POWER+ LB6700 670 CFM 180 MPH blower. Any thoughts on that too? :)
We live in Hawaii... Thick cane grass, lots of fibery vines, can have very wet grass. You say it bogs down in thicker grass. Right now i use a Stihl 91... POWERFUL! With thick trim line, can take down small saplings. Will any of the 3 models you showed keep up with my Sthil? And how many hours of run time with 5 ah battery? And can any of them 3 take the 5 ah battery?
You do not need to use EGO branded trimmer line. However, make sure that any trimmer line you do use is fresh line. There are plenty of videos here that will explain how to freshen up trimmer line. I keep my trimmer line permanently immersed in water and get a lot more "mileage" out of it. I buy the EGO line in a bulk reel, cut it up into 4 metre odd lengths and store it in a bucket of water. I store mine in an Esky cooler. I've found that if you store the reel of trimmer line in its packaging it quickly becomes brittle and you go through a lot of it quickly. It gets pretty hot where I am If you must store it in its packet for any period of time (more than a few weeks), just soak a fresh length of line for 24 hours before you put it in the line trimmer.
I love my Ego mower, but the trimmer is way too long for me (5'2" female) and so rather heavy at that length...wish they made a model for short people!
Hi Grandma Carol here (68) Anyway I put the guard on and now want to remove it. But, the darn (%#$!) Thing won't come off. Does it have some sort of locking screw?? Thanks your your advice!!
This is a great helpful video. Thanks man. I just learned about the Ego in the last couple o days. My cheap Craftsman is for shit! I guess I’ll go to Lowes and see what they have. I do find that wearing shorts and trimming is not very safe, though. To each his own, but my shins have taken a beating in the past. Cheers

@@dennisdaly907 I've got a Husqvarna 220il coming today. I heard the variable speed trigger is more refined and you can slow it down, way down. If it works like I want I'll be selling my Milwaukee.
Ego is doing it’s thing.
Home Depot lost the best Brand.
Lowe’s and Ace are so lucky. 🤘🏼
Seriously. I love everything I've used from them. I've had zero issues with any of them.
Home Depot is pushing DeWalt and Ryobi. Disappointing…….
@@matthewgross6958 I'm testing the ryobi 54" zero turn and I'm honestly really surprised by how well it cuts.
I have 3 ego's as well, but two are power heads and have different attachments on them lol. Since I got the rotary scissors I dont even use the string trimmer anymore though. It doesnt fling crap everywhere like string trimmers do and is just a pleasure to use. OH and I suggest getting Darwins Grip for them! So much easier to use than having to bend over all the time.
Love my rotary scissors! I've wanted to look into the Darwins grip but haven't pulled the trigger.
Looking to go buy one of these today, this video was a great help since I had no idea about which one to get. Thanks! 😊
I can see you being a spokesperson for EGO or a district manager. I've had Stihls most of my life, but I'm slowly switching over to lighter weight equipment.
THANK YOU for the video...
My cheap black and decker trimmer from years ago already had the adjustment for handle length and rotation
Just got mine..i was very impressed with the power..if the batteries can give me over 1 year ill gladly buy more when spent.
I was literally going into my garage to weigh out some freedom fert when this pop up. Waaaaaaayyy to distract me from my lawn goals. Now I’m coming up with my elevator pitch on why I need another trimmer
Lol my man! Hope you love the freedom fert as much as I do🇺🇸 thanks for watching dude!
@@Brettsgrasscapades note to self, don’t pitch another brand of electric power tool when you just sold her on a different brand a few weeks ago. Just got the Toro 60v super recycler and I allegedly said “I can get a couple batteries and just buy the bare tools to save money”. It’s a waiting game now……
@@Miiiiiikeyy hahaha dang it! The Toro 60v mower is so good but their other tools are not quite up to ego standards except the blower. That Toro blower is legit!
Great video Brett! Ego looks like they make good products! Now I have to borrow my neighbors ego string trimmer to give it a try!
They don't make anything that I've used that I feel isn't a quality product. Thanks for watching Vince!
I'll still prefer the carbon fibre with less moving components and the variable speed trigger.
Nice trimmer breakdown. Flag etiquette tip, the field of blue should always be in the upper left. Thanks for the video.
Thank you 🙏🏽 just was wondering about the different models and the difference’s
Your back yard property reminds me of The Lawn Care Nuts back property/yard. Looks like a pretty nice neighborhood. 🤟🏻👍🏼💯
Best video ever. And I bought the right one!!!!!! Thanks for this!!!
This highlights the problem with battery-powered trimmers: you run out of juice before the job is done in grass that wasn't all that much. For light-duty edging it might be great, but I like to really work mine. Corded seems the best.
Great video. I just bought the st1511t I haven't used it yet but I think I'll like it.
Absolutely love my egos, as you know sir! Glad to see they have worked out well for you!
You're the reason I got my first one! Been hooked ever since!
@@Brettsgrasscapades 💯!
Great review. Your video helped me to decide to purchase the ST1511
I wish they came with a guard like my old Dewalt. Where I use mine, rocks go flying.
Just got my first ego trimmer today. Watched a couple of your vidoes 🤝
Thanks man
Brett
Another great video, I love my EGO tools
This Definitely helped me decide. Nice touch on The Office, I thought the same thing and the snippet came on lmao 🤣
I like the toro leaf blower hiding behind you
Helpful video.
And I am depending on petrol or electric, I think electric ones won't last long
Very nice review. look forward to the review on the new 16" carbon fiber telescope Power Load and Line IQ trimmer.
Just put it up now!
Very professional job , to the point and yet upbeat . Would advise may skip fill in segment, NO TRUMP !
Fantastic review! Thanks for putting this together.
First Aussie 😁. Brett, you don’t have enough whippersnippers there mate , great review there. 😎👍👍
I know right? Maybe I'll get some more.
Ego powerload vs rapid load. I like taking the weeds down to the dirt, scalping. Do you know which head has a better angle for that or they both the same. Better yet can you scalp with the powerload?
Thank you sir just what I needed to know was about to make a mistake and buy the carbon fiber 🙏🏼
Wish you had commented on the string advance system, i.e. bump vs the 16-inch model automatic advance. Also, is the 5.0 aH battery worth it?
After many years of faithful service, my Echo 225 has reached the end of it's life I think. Now in my mid 70's, jerking starting cords isn't much of an option any more, so I am in the process of converting my tools to battery. I already have EGO chainsaw and leaf blower and love them both, so I'm now in the market for a string trimmer and after that a push mower. Thanks for review.
Great video and I loved the power load snippet😂😂
Thank you, Brett, for such a wonderful review.
Thanks.
You probably just talked me into getting the new model. My Lowe’s is advertising it for $179.99 with the battery.
Go get it now! You'll love it!
I just looked it up $179.00 Includes 56V 2.5 Ah ARC Lithium™ battery and charger- Papa Mows Low thinks for the Low Down .
Amazing review, thank you!
Nice one bro.. but I wanted you to comment further on the battery and charging prosess. Is the battery standard size or different models uses different size battery carrying different power output
How hard is it to reload the string? Dose the string "self-feed"? Does it feed automatically? More details please.
Great review! Thanks Brett.
Thank you for this helpful review!
Hey good stuff man! Enjoyed video. Like when you included “gals” then looked over at the wife for a split second lol
Thanks Mike!
Great video! Thanks! How are they in respect to vibration, please?
Do you need to use ego branded trimmer line for it to work? (Weight etc??)
Nope
If the one feels lighter than the carbon fiber it’s probably a balance issue with the handle placement and center of gravity
How would you store battery during winter months ?
Hi Grandma Carol here (68)
Anyway I put the guard on and now want to remove it. But, the darn (%#$!) Thing won't come off. Does it have some sort of locking screw?? Thanks your your advice!!
Thanks for your time.
Cheers
Can u say the weight of the carbon fiber trimmer and the weight of the multi head with trimmer with same battery or without the battery thanks don't know which one to get I have the multi head without the trimmer attachment but I also got the carbon fiber trimmer
How heavy is the first one? Does the first one have a re string button?
Nice comparison. Definitely gave me something to think about at a$199 price!!
It's seriously such a good trimmer.
Does Ego make a split shaft trimmer you can just rotate the shaft and go from trimming to edging mode?
Ok you had me at Power Load. AC/DC
