I bought 2 of these ego string trimmers for home use and my landscape company. Money well spent. With 2 of the bigger batteries i can cut down 3ft. Of grass with ease. Used them today to cut down tall grass from a horse arena. 👍👍👍👍💪💪💪💪

I bought one a couple of weeks ago and I really like it. I have a 21 year old 2 stroke weed-eater and it still works but need love in maintenance and such and decided to go battery for the next 20+ years. I just learned something on your review and how to load new string, I'm not much on instructions until I get stumped or something but now I know how to replace the string. Now I'm really glad I bought the trimmer and look forward to many years or use. Thanks for this review and all of the other ones you produce.
You sound like me.. my 25 year old Echo trimmer has been a faithful summertime companion, but this year it’s kinda reached its end of lifecycle. I actually feel kinda sad to be losing the old girl, but it’s been a good run and I’m excited to assemble the new ego and see if it can fill the echo’s very big shoes!

A few years back i started looking into the battery machines and EGO just stood out. I started with a single stage snow blower and the multi tool with hedge trimmer attachment, later got the string trimmer with power load a hand held blower, smaller hedge trimmer, and the select cut lawn mower. AMAZING! I love love love this stuff. The whole push a button and go sounds a bit overrated as a "feature" but man it really is satisfying to not have to mess with gas etc.. Plus as an added unforeseen bonus, MY WIFE WILL ACTUALLY USE THE SNOW BLOWER!! lol so awesome. I tell people all the time, whether you go with EGO or Toro etc.. the switch is worth it. They all make great equipment.
Picked this up yesterday and was very impressed with power and run time. The Line IQ also just seems to work. I am 6' am appreciate the length/reach. Battery charger also charges that massive battery pretty quickly. Will be donating my old gas trimmer...

EGO nailed it with this trimmer! It's light, balanced, and has plenty of trimming power. No more bumping and I love the Line IQ feature. Just like in your video, I was able to keep trimming without stopping. I kept feeling the need to "bump" the trimmer when the line got low, but the trimmer adjusted to the perfect length each time. Even in the vertical position the line would advance. I love the new trigger safety as its smooth and quick. I haven't had the need to load more line, so I haven't tried the autoload feature yet. This is by far the best trimmer I've ever purchased!!
Between the carbon fiber and Line IQ that is why I splurged a little more for this one instead of one of the cheaper ones. I really don't feel like I need to run it any higher than on low speed for my yard work. But I do have a small half acre if that of yard to work on with it.

For a trimmer that costs $300 (divided by using it roughly 20 times a year, comes out to approx $15.00 each time I use it) it's a good value for purchase in my opinion. EGO customer service has been great for my other powered lawn tools, so far.
@michaelvoorhees5978 Not true at all. EGO has great customer service & are very prompt & helpful. The dam trimmer will run & run & run.. they make awesome equipment. I do lawn care on a regular basis & have been using my Ego 15in trimmer hard daily for 6yrs now & have the chain saw & awesome hedge trimmers & blower all from EGO & have been using it for my business the entire time. EGO IS ROCK SOLID & DEPENDABLE!!!

Thanks to this video I went out and got one … What a difference between Elec and gas .. I like weedeating now .. I did use a little Teflon tape on the screws since they are steel and the housing is aluminum.. Your right about not taking it apart between uses .. Thanks again for a real world review ..!
Got one today , used it a lil bit . Really like it so far . I did use a shoulder strap that i already have because i have shoulder an hand pain . But another good thing i notice so far is basically no vibration . Happy so far .

EGO needs to address the claim that ANY commercial grade .095 line will work with there Latest Line IQ technology because it will NOT. One of the top rated .095 line is the Husqvarna brand and it will auto load in this Line IQ EGO model but will definitely NOT advance. Called EGO Customer service and was told only the EGO Twisted .095 line will properly work. I have not tried another .095 TWISTED brand line, but I did purchase the expensive EGO .095 Twisted line and the unit returned to working properly feeding the line out when needed.
I have the first generation power load string trimmer, and I use the ugly twist .095 line. It seems to work well. Thinking about upgrading to the new multi head trimmer with powerload
I don’t like the iq. It’s too gimmicky and too particular what line you use. I like the older powerload bump head. Really glad I don’t have the iq head
I’ve used mine a few times now and switching between speed 1 & 2 I get right at 45 minutes on the battery that comes with it (4ah) Today I used it to clear out some English Ivy on speed 2 the whole time and I still had 1 bar remaining after 30 minutes but it didn’t have as much power at the end but it worked great. My issues with it -It’s heavier than my Stihl -It leaves 1-2 inch pieces of line everywhere -it waste the last 2-3 feet of string every time -the string doesn’t always feed out properly and you will have string only out one side and you have to remove it all and put it back in. But with all that being said I really like it,loading is so fast when it does mess up it’s a quick fix. It has plenty of power even for a big job just have extra batteries and think of it like you’re adding gas when you replace. I would recommend it to anyone
I just bought this trimmer today. Ill use it tomorrow. I bought the other trimmer that doesn't have the iq head there is a little weight difference with bigger battery but the adjustable shaft is nice tho
Ok well I just got this trimmer and I normally use a straight shaft and curved shaft sometimes stihl trimmers.The ego is surprisingly powerful and i can actually on a weekly lawn use it on setting 1.The balance is nice and with the 4amp hr battery is much lighter it seems.I really like how adjustable it is with the extending shaft and easy move handle. I guess the 1 complaint i have is as my wife promises an inch makes a difference😆 so if there is no shaft gear and the head has all that power then it should be able to run longer string.
Thank you for measuring the telescoping shaft in the long and short position, I could not find that information anywhere. I'm 5' 6" and the long shaft on my old EGO straight shaft kills my left arm in 5 minutes from holding it up and trying to control it. So I always use lightweight curved shaft Craftsman. I can do my entire yard with one of them. This looks promising because I want an electric one because my shoulder hurts pulling the starter cord.👍
I just got it about 2 weeks ago I love it but actually hate the line iq I find myself just wishing it would release more line as I continue trying to cut with tiny pieces of line that’s sticking out. There’s no way to make it put out the line so you just wait for it is it coming? Is it not? I’ll be waiting to see lol.

Right now it charges fast, which is fine if you need more power right away. However, fast charging causes Battery degradation. And most of us will use the unit, and put it away for a day, or week, etc. Having trickle charge ability could extend the battery life CONSIDERABLY. Just bought to $199 ego trimmer. Curious as to if the 15" & 16" have the same motor, & power.
I love this trimmer, however, after 3 years it stopped winding the string. I cannot find a video discussing how to fix it or do I have to get rid of it?
Yeah, I've got one of these, purchased last summer, and IQ auto feed is not as great as you think. It waits until only 3 - 3.5 inches of line remains sticking out of each side, and then feeds out too much line which results in several 2" chunks of line in the yard. I don't mind the chunks of line, but trimming with only 3.5 inches of line is annoying, and it wastes quite a lot of line when it does eventually feed. I called their customer support (India I reckon) and was told I can't replace the IQ head with a regular bump feed head, which sounds like BS to me. Unfortunately there is no email address for EGO.
Used my new 16” yesterday. I think it’s too rear heavy and the string swath is too short, I don’t see away around it. I took off the guard hoping I could get a longer string, no go, still stayed short. As a test, I clipped the line to about 1 inch, it still would not let out more than it’s preset amount. So, that said, battery 4AH is good lasted until I was too tired and hot to keep working. Considering returning. I got a great deal on it, $299 and extra 2.5 AH battery, free.
Great review. Are you able to remove the guard like I’ve seen many others do on gas powered trimmers? To see better for edging? Or would that cause problems with the IQ system?
When you used your own line and you cut it you didn't measure it to see how long it was. How did you know how much line to cut off? Do you really have to cut off under a certain length for the power head to function correctly?
I live in the Western North Carolina mountains and the brush and lawn care here is ferocious. These electric trimmers are great for the suburbs or business settings where the job is more simple and sound is a nuisance. I'd say they have a long way to go before they'll overcome the popularity of a tried and true gas trimmer. They just don't have the power to push through that heavy brush/grass. Plus, I can string my line up in about a minute. I hate the self winding/perfect length of line function this trimmer uses. Sometimes you need more string length. Love my Stihl FS 240 paired with the thick Stihl square string.
True, battery powered string trimmers are not quite to the power SOME of the commercial gas-powered models. However, they are very close. Now, if you're talking about a brush cutter, that's a different story. We have 5 acres around the shop, and we have no problem keeping things trimmed with our EGO trimmer. By the way, if you're running your FS 240 without a guard, so you can run the string out, Stihl very much disagrees with this. In fact, we were a part of testing at Stihl headquarters in Virginia where we ran Stihl trimmers with the lines extended (no guard). Cylinder head temperatures went well beyond normal running temps because the motor wasn't operating in it's optimum range. Just something to think about. Thanks for watching.
Yes, it does. Problem is, that the Line-IQ feature only begins to unreel more line when you're down to about 3 inches. And if your line is uneven on one side, the Line-IQ only unreels to the longer side, continuously leaving one side shorter than the other. It really needs refinement, and I don't like relying on the machine to tell me how much line I can have at any given time.
Yes, and it unreels unevenly. I don't like using a guard either, so I carry a small set of wirecutters to trim line back. But when it decides to release more line it would release 6 inches on one side and 2 inches on the other, which is mildly infuriating.
the 36-60v OPE is getting to the point where it can be used commercially. A hybrid f150 has a 7.2kw inverter on it. EGO has a 6 port 1500w simultaneous charger. Rather than having a bunch of 2 stroke gas motor tools, have the f150 charge batteries and much more efficiently burn gas in generator mode to charge the batteries. If you have a crew really hammering tools, you can have 24 batteries on chargers at any given time in the bed of the truck, and the outlets work while the truck is in motion. With 24 batteries on rotation, you can even power a commercial ZT mowers sufficiently, just will have to swap the 6 batteries by hand. But when you think about it, swapping batteries wouldn't take much longer than filling a gas tank, and now you don't need to fill gas cans, just the truck.
Should have been a 5.0 Ah battery.....don't think any of their other tools come with the 4.0 yet DO NOT use any other brand of trimmer line than the Ego twisted. Don't know what it is but they aren't happy with anything different. I bought twisted 0.95 line of of Amazon, that "sharper" hexagon shaped stuff......thought my trimmer had broken because it wouldn't auto load or feed out, but when I pulled the Amazon line out and reloaded with the Ego line it was fine again. The Ego line feels more flexible and "softer" so I'm guessing the head can grab and wind it in easier for that reason. I'm worried it will work fine for the first few months but get finiky after a while......I have a carbon shaft 15" ego trimmer and want to upgrade but am afraid too lol.....I'll just put it up in the garage in case I need a backup
Powerload also doesnt work everytime. You can feed the line (0.95) and it won't "catch" and it will rotate without rolling up the line. You end up having to take the line out and restring it again.
My "no bump" Black&Decker push-button line feed does not work any more, after only one season. Really frustrated with it. I push the button, then have to turn it up-side down, to pull the line out myself EACH TIME I need more line, which is about every 2 feet! Pretty well decided I want the unit in this Review.
I bought this string trimmer. After a few uses, I decided to buy a rotary scissor head. Can I put the scissor head on this machine or do I need to buy a powerhead?
i'd love to see a break down from a landscaper how much they pay per year for a gas powered trimmer. Also, maybe from a mid of the road company how long does a trimmer last them, how many seasons before replacement. Its a factor cause with the EGO etc, you wont have to replace the battery you could just buy a tool only kit.
Good gas powered trimmers are very good for power and run time - huge set back is frequently having to fix them. The maintenance set backs is enough to switch to battery powered. Based on my commerical and residential expericne
@@danglecity1550 yeah, we use trimmers alot at my job. One of my guys tried a dewalt trimmer like 6-7 years ago, didn't go well. But these EGO trimmers as well as some of the newer models from Toro etc... look like they could replace the gas powered machines no problem.

I just got 37 min 45 seconds out of my new 5.0 Amp 😕 says 140 min online seems really exaggerated so far. I was in heavy weeds and grass but that wasn’t even half.
Mine is the biggest POS. Goes through an incredible amount of string. Auto feed stopped working after 2 uses. String spin direction is strange. I sold mine and went back to my cheapo craftsman.
We have noticed, after the review, that it's a little fickle with the type of string you use. It hasn't stopped working, but it's just finicky with some strings. Sorry that you had big issues.
My old B&D 24v cordless trimmer had automatic line advance too, so this isn't new technology like they claim. I used that trimmer for years and never had an issue with it until the battery died and since buying a new battery for it was impractical, and hard to find, I bought the first gen EGO trimmer instead. Much better, more powerful trimmer, but I wished it had the auto line feed, and since it still works great, I'm not going to buy another just for that feature. Wish it was a retrofit.
I had a lot of problems with that trimmer . When I took it back to Lowe’s a worker told me he had that trimmer and he brought it back as well . He told me they get a lot of returns . So that’s too bad but they had a great idea .
Probably more. You either waste line trying to coax it to release more line when you need it or it releases unexpectedly and you accidentally cut off the new line as its still close to the ground when it extends. Needs a button to manually release line.
In the market for this trimmer, deciding whether to get the non Line IQ or this model with it. Do you think the Line IQ is stable and not fail? Presuming if it stops working or sensor fails it would have to be replaced? i guess it does have warranty.

I believe they only recommend .095 for this model. .095 line if pretty heavy, and it's what most Pros use. Some use .105 but that's pretty heavy. For typical trimming, we recommend .095. Thanks for watching.
He didn't have it extended......judging from later on, when they were putting line in it and he said he didn't think it was loading, they didn't show him all its features so he probably didn't know it's telescopic
my only issues in the past was that electric isnt as powerful as gas models (wasn't ego though). but ego comes close compared to any other battery operated brand. It beats having to deal with fuel, oil and carburetor. The batteries dont do well in sub freezing weather, just store them properly when not in use and your're good.

Just in the past 3 years, the battery-powered lawncare equipment industry has come a long way, especially the leaders in the industry. EGO has definitely helped to lead the way with their 56-volt powered tools. Battery power is definitely not quite to the level of commercial line gas-power, but they're really close. We feel like they've definitely caught and surpassed many of the homeowner products. Add to that the benefits of no oil, gas, hoses, belts, bearings, etc., and you start to understand the justification of battery power.
I bought a 60v greenworks kit on clearance at Lowe's (they were in the process of switching to Ego) two years ago. It's way better than my Echo two cycle trimmer it replaced. If you are just taking care of your lawn a good electric weedeater will be a real step up for you. No gas, no broken pull strings, no carb issues, just press the trigger and go. They have all the power of a consumer gas weedeater these days. Also spend some money on a quality leaf blower too. Don't get the 18, 20,or 24 volt stuff. Go big and get the 54 volt and up stuff. I still keep my gas backpack blower for serious blowing but the 60v greenworks handheld blower gets used 80 percent of the time now.
I have a sthil backpack blower, but for a string trimmer and mower the battery ones work great. For blowing you want gas power and longevity. I have 1/4 acre and the battery blowers don't have enough power and they die after 40 minutes

I would love for you to do a pros and cons of the 2022 Ego 56v, 54" zero turn VS the Ryobi 80v, 52" zero turn I am an Ego guy and I am doing my research on battery zero turns and 2yrs ago when I saw the Ego zero turn with swoppable batteries I fell in love. But my guess is it will be $7K with 4hrs/4 acres runtime and they claim 25hp equivalent, but the Ryobi will be $6K and have 4 acres worth of runtime, (my guess 3.5hrs runtime) and have swoppable batteries but they claim it will have 42hp equivalent power. So I would LOVE to see some tall grass tests to confirm the Ryobi is cheaper and very noticeable/MUCH stronger at cutting tall thick grass, if not then I would probably stay with the Ego as I prefer the twin sticks over the joystick, and I have gotten and will get more Ego tools with batteries to increase the runtime, I already have a saw, blower, weedeater, pole saw, and plan on getting the same for my pops as a backup for me and to get him off gas to enjoy the pure joys of plug and play batteries.

This trimmer is very bad. I bought one in a package with the mower. The first one worked for awhile and then totally quit feeding from one side of the unit and shortly quit feeding from the other side leaving me with just a short piece of string. I removed the top and there was plenty of string but it was all tangled. Removed this and used the auto feed to put in fresh string. Did the same thing. Took it back to where I bought it and they replaced the trimmer. Brought it home and it worked fine at first. Then the same thing happened again. Opened it found the same issue with tangled line, reloaded the unit and it quickly did the same thing. Wouldn't feed to one side and got down to just a short piece on the other side. So after having the same issue on 2 units I believe there is a flaw in the unit design
Not a year old and this thing has been a pain in the ass! Won’t reload. Died completely. Had it serviced, still doesn’t work. It pulses on and off constantly. I wouldn’t recommend this thing!
I'm pretty sure that's an opinion that probably doesn't hold a lot of validity. DeWalt and Milwaukee both make some good string trimmers, but saying they're more powerful than the EGO would be a stretch. Thanks for watching.
@@Shoptoolreviews it isn’t a stretch at all. Put it on a torque test like others have done. It is not as powerful as the 60v dewalt. 73inch lbs for the dewalt vs 26 for the ego. Makita is 48, Ryobi and Milwaukee are both 39, Echo is 26, etc. so yes. Most are more powerful than the ego
I have several Milwaukee string timmers and your assessment of more power isn't based on real world use. The best thing about the newer Milwaukee trimmer is the ability to put the pole saw attachment on, which is as good as gold.

The none comercial that still has that line button works really well, its really really far better than other weedeaters ive tried.

i have had mine for 2yrs. the change i made was i quit buying their string, I by a spool of shakespeare 095, a spool last 4 times longer!

I just bought that exact model this week, and I am tickled pink! ...after serveral inexpensive but wimpy ones! (Got their hedge clippers too!)
EGO needs to address the claim that ANY commercial grade .095 line will work with there Latest Line IQ technology because it will NOT. One of the top rated .095 line is the Husqvarna brand and it will auto load in this Line IQ EGO model but will definitely NOT advance. Called EGO Customer service and was told only the EGO Twisted .095 line will properly work. I have not tried another .095 TWISTED brand line, but I did purchase the expensive EGO .095 Twisted line and the unit returned to working properly feeding the line out when needed.
I have the first generation power load string trimmer, and I use the ugly twist .095 line. It seems to work well. Thinking about upgrading to the new multi head trimmer with powerload
That will be a deal breaker since i dont like using any fancy twisted line, i cut with normal round line more neatly and comfortably.
I don’t like the iq. It’s too gimmicky and too particular what line you use. I like the older powerload bump head. Really glad I don’t have the iq head
I use maxpower twisted line. It works the same as egos brand in my opinion no problem with it comming out

I’ve used mine a few times now and switching between speed 1 & 2 I get right at 45 minutes on the battery that comes with it (4ah)
Today I used it to clear out some English Ivy on speed 2 the whole time and I still had 1 bar remaining after 30 minutes but it didn’t have as much power at the end but it worked great.
My issues with it
-It’s heavier than my Stihl
-It leaves 1-2 inch pieces of line everywhere
-it waste the last 2-3 feet of string every time
-the string doesn’t always feed out properly and you will have string only out one side and you have to remove it all and put it back in.
But with all that being said I really like it,loading is so fast when it does mess up it’s a quick fix.
It has plenty of power even for a big job just have extra batteries and think of it like you’re adding gas when you replace.
I would recommend it to anyone

I just bought this trimmer today. Ill use it tomorrow. I bought the other trimmer that doesn't have the iq head there is a little weight difference with bigger battery but the adjustable shaft is nice tho
Ok well I just got this trimmer and I normally use a straight shaft and curved shaft sometimes stihl trimmers.The ego is surprisingly powerful and i can actually on a weekly lawn use it on setting 1.The balance is nice and with the 4amp hr battery is much lighter it seems.I really like how adjustable it is with the extending shaft and easy move handle. I guess the 1 complaint i have is as my wife promises an inch makes a difference😆 so if there is no shaft gear and the head has all that power then it should be able to run longer string.
Loved it and the ego is my dream weedeater.
Thank you for measuring the telescoping shaft in the long and short position, I could not find that information anywhere. I'm 5' 6" and the long shaft on my old EGO straight shaft kills my left arm in 5 minutes from holding it up and trying to control it. So I always use lightweight curved shaft Craftsman. I can do my entire yard with one of them. This looks promising because I want an electric one because my shoulder hurts pulling the starter cord.👍

I just got it about 2 weeks ago I love it but actually hate the line iq I find myself just wishing it would release more line as I continue trying to cut with tiny pieces of line that’s sticking out. There’s no way to make it put out the line so you just wait for it is it coming? Is it not? I’ll be waiting to see lol.

Just read thru all the comments (102) Thanks to all. My suggestion for EGO is to provide variable charging speeds. Right now it charges fast, which is fine if you need more power right away. However, fast charging causes Battery degradation. And most of us will use the unit, and put it away for a day, or week, etc. Having trickle charge ability could extend the battery life CONSIDERABLY.
Just bought to $199 ego trimmer. Curious as to if the 15" & 16" have the same motor, & power.
Just don't charge your batteries when they are cold or super hot. Don't over discharge and charge at an appropiate temp.

I like it and plan to buy one, but I have yet to find out how much a new head will cost if/when you have to replace it.
Yeah, I've got one of these, purchased last summer, and IQ auto feed is not as great as you think. It waits until only 3 - 3.5 inches of line remains sticking out of each side, and then feeds out too much line which results in several 2" chunks of line in the yard. I don't mind the chunks of line, but trimming with only 3.5 inches of line is annoying, and it wastes quite a lot of line when it does eventually feed. I called their customer support (India I reckon) and was told I can't replace the IQ head with a regular bump feed head, which sounds like BS to me. Unfortunately there is no email address for EGO.
I have the same problem with the IQ auto feed; it is just not as advertised; not happy. No solutions online for it either.
Used my new 16” yesterday. I think it’s too rear heavy and the string swath is too short, I don’t see away around it. I took off the guard hoping I could get a longer string, no go, still stayed short. As a test, I clipped the line to about 1 inch, it still would not let out more than it’s preset amount. So, that said, battery 4AH is good lasted until I was too tired and hot to keep working. Considering returning. I got a great deal on it, $299 and extra 2.5 AH battery, free.
Great review. Are you able to remove the guard like I’ve seen many others do on gas powered trimmers? To see better for edging? Or would that cause problems with the IQ system?

The string cutter is located on the guard, so I would think that removing it is a bad idea.
When you used your own line and you cut it you didn't measure it to see how long it was. How did you know how much line to cut off? Do you really have to cut off under a certain length for the power head to function correctly?
Will line iq work with the guard removed? And 95 the thickest gauge line that work in it?

I live in the Western North Carolina mountains and the brush and lawn care here is ferocious. These electric trimmers are great for the suburbs or business settings where the job is more simple and sound is a nuisance. I'd say they have a long way to go before they'll overcome the popularity of a tried and true gas trimmer. They just don't have the power to push through that heavy brush/grass. Plus, I can string my line up in about a minute. I hate the self winding/perfect length of line function this trimmer uses. Sometimes you need more string length. Love my Stihl FS 240 paired with the thick Stihl square string.
True, battery powered string trimmers are not quite to the power SOME of the commercial gas-powered models. However, they are very close. Now, if you're talking about a brush cutter, that's a different story. We have 5 acres around the shop, and we have no problem keeping things trimmed with our EGO trimmer.
By the way, if you're running your FS 240 without a guard, so you can run the string out, Stihl very much disagrees with this. In fact, we were a part of testing at Stihl headquarters in Virginia where we ran Stihl trimmers with the lines extended (no guard). Cylinder head temperatures went well beyond normal running temps because the motor wasn't operating in it's optimum range. Just something to think about. Thanks for watching.

Yes, it does. Problem is, that the Line-IQ feature only begins to unreel more line when you're down to about 3 inches. And if your line is uneven on one side, the Line-IQ only unreels to the longer side, continuously leaving one side shorter than the other. It really needs refinement, and I don't like relying on the machine to tell me how much line I can have at any given time.
Yes, and it unreels unevenly. I don't like using a guard either, so I carry a small set of wirecutters to trim line back. But when it decides to release more line it would release 6 inches on one side and 2 inches on the other, which is mildly infuriating.

the 36-60v OPE is getting to the point where it can be used commercially. A hybrid f150 has a 7.2kw inverter on it. EGO has a 6 port 1500w simultaneous charger. Rather than having a bunch of 2 stroke gas motor tools, have the f150 charge batteries and much more efficiently burn gas in generator mode to charge the batteries. If you have a crew really hammering tools, you can have 24 batteries on chargers at any given time in the bed of the truck, and the outlets work while the truck is in motion. With 24 batteries on rotation, you can even power a commercial ZT mowers sufficiently, just will have to swap the 6 batteries by hand. But when you think about it, swapping batteries wouldn't take much longer than filling a gas tank, and now you don't need to fill gas cans, just the truck.
You know that’s roughly $4,000 worth of batteries right?

DO NOT use any other brand of trimmer line than the Ego twisted. Don't know what it is but they aren't happy with anything different. I bought twisted 0.95 line of of Amazon, that "sharper" hexagon shaped stuff......thought my trimmer had broken because it wouldn't auto load or feed out, but when I pulled the Amazon line out and reloaded with the Ego line it was fine again. The Ego line feels more flexible and "softer" so I'm guessing the head can grab and wind it in easier for that reason.
I'm worried it will work fine for the first few months but get finiky after a while......I have a carbon shaft 15" ego trimmer and want to upgrade but am afraid too lol.....I'll just put it up in the garage in case I need a backup

Powerload also doesnt work everytime. You can feed the line (0.95) and it won't "catch" and it will rotate without rolling up the line. You end up having to take the line out and restring it again.

Black and decker has had no bump and telescope handle for years and 1/3 the cost. Works just find for the average homeowner.
My "no bump" Black&Decker push-button line feed does not work any more, after only one season. Really frustrated with it. I push the button, then have to turn it up-side down, to pull the line out myself EACH TIME I need more line, which is about every 2 feet! Pretty well decided I want the unit in this Review.

No. You have to get the Multi-Tool for that.
i'd love to see a break down from a landscaper how much they pay per year for a gas powered trimmer. Also, maybe from a mid of the road company how long does a trimmer last them, how many seasons before replacement. Its a factor cause with the EGO etc, you wont have to replace the battery you could just buy a tool only kit.
Good gas powered trimmers are very good for power and run time - huge set back is frequently having to fix them. The maintenance set backs is enough to switch to battery powered. Based on my commerical and residential expericne
@@danglecity1550 yeah, we use trimmers alot at my job. One of my guys tried a dewalt trimmer like 6-7 years ago, didn't go well. But these EGO trimmers as well as some of the newer models from Toro etc... look like they could replace the gas powered machines no problem.

I just got 37 min 45 seconds out of my new 5.0 Amp 😕 says 140 min online seems really exaggerated so far. I was in heavy weeds and grass but that wasn’t even half.
Mine is the biggest POS. Goes through an incredible amount of string. Auto feed stopped working after 2 uses. String spin direction is strange. I sold mine and went back to my cheapo craftsman.
We have noticed, after the review, that it's a little fickle with the type of string you use. It hasn't stopped working, but it's just finicky with some strings. Sorry that you had big issues.
My old B&D 24v cordless trimmer had automatic line advance too, so this isn't new technology like they claim. I used that trimmer for years and never had an issue with it until the battery died and since buying a new battery for it was impractical, and hard to find, I bought the first gen EGO trimmer instead. Much better, more powerful trimmer, but I wished it had the auto line feed, and since it still works great, I'm not going to buy another just for that feature. Wish it was a retrofit.
Aside from the 2 x speed switch does it also have a variable speed system on the trigger like other EGO former string trimmers?

I had a lot of problems with that trimmer . When I took it back to Lowe’s a worker told me he had that trimmer and he brought it back as well . He told me they get a lot of returns . So that’s too bad but they had a great idea .

Probably more. You either waste line trying to coax it to release more line when you need it or it releases unexpectedly and you accidentally cut off the new line as its still close to the ground when it extends. Needs a button to manually release line.

I believe they only recommend .095 for this model. .095 line if pretty heavy, and it's what most Pros use. Some use .105 but that's pretty heavy. For typical trimming, we recommend .095. Thanks for watching.

He didn't have it extended......judging from later on, when they were putting line in it and he said he didn't think it was loading, they didn't show him all its features so he probably didn't know it's telescopic

my only issues in the past was that electric isnt as powerful as gas models (wasn't ego though). but ego comes close compared to any other battery operated brand. It beats having to deal with fuel, oil and carburetor. The batteries dont do well in sub freezing weather, just store them properly when not in use and your're good.

Just in the past 3 years, the battery-powered lawncare equipment industry has come a long way, especially the leaders in the industry. EGO has definitely helped to lead the way with their 56-volt powered tools. Battery power is definitely not quite to the level of commercial line gas-power, but they're really close. We feel like they've definitely caught and surpassed many of the homeowner products. Add to that the benefits of no oil, gas, hoses, belts, bearings, etc., and you start to understand the justification of battery power.
I bought a 60v greenworks kit on clearance at Lowe's (they were in the process of switching to Ego) two years ago. It's way better than my Echo two cycle trimmer it replaced. If you are just taking care of your lawn a good electric weedeater will be a real step up for you. No gas, no broken pull strings, no carb issues, just press the trigger and go. They have all the power of a consumer gas weedeater these days.
Also spend some money on a quality leaf blower too. Don't get the 18, 20,or 24 volt stuff. Go big and get the 54 volt and up stuff. I still keep my gas backpack blower for serious blowing but the 60v greenworks handheld blower gets used 80 percent of the time now.

I have a sthil backpack blower, but for a string trimmer and mower the battery ones work great. For blowing you want gas power and longevity. I have 1/4 acre and the battery blowers don't have enough power and they die after 40 minutes

I am an Ego guy and I am doing my research on battery zero turns and 2yrs ago when I saw the Ego zero turn with swoppable batteries I fell in love. But my guess is it will be $7K with 4hrs/4 acres runtime and they claim 25hp equivalent, but the Ryobi will be $6K and have 4 acres worth of runtime, (my guess 3.5hrs runtime) and have swoppable batteries but they claim it will have 42hp equivalent power. So I would LOVE to see some tall grass tests to confirm the Ryobi is cheaper and very noticeable/MUCH stronger at cutting tall thick grass, if not then I would probably stay with the Ego as I prefer the twin sticks over the joystick, and I have gotten and will get more Ego tools with batteries to increase the runtime, I already have a saw, blower, weedeater, pole saw, and plan on getting the same for my pops as a backup for me and to get him off gas to enjoy the pure joys of plug and play batteries.

This trimmer is very bad. I bought one in a package with the mower. The first one worked for awhile and then totally quit feeding from one side of the unit and shortly quit feeding from the other side leaving me with just a short piece of string. I removed the top and there was plenty of string but it was all tangled. Removed this and used the auto feed to put in fresh string. Did the same thing. Took it back to where I bought it and they replaced the trimmer. Brought it home and it worked fine at first. Then the same thing happened again. Opened it found the same issue with tangled line, reloaded the unit and it quickly did the same thing. Wouldn't feed to one side and got down to just a short piece on the other side. So after having the same issue on 2 units I believe there is a flaw in the unit design

Not a year old and this thing has been a pain in the ass! Won’t reload. Died completely. Had it serviced, still doesn’t work. It pulses on and off constantly. I wouldn’t recommend this thing!

@@Shoptoolreviews it isn’t a stretch at all. Put it on a torque test like others have done. It is not as powerful as the 60v dewalt. 73inch lbs for the dewalt vs 26 for the ego. Makita is 48, Ryobi and Milwaukee are both 39, Echo is 26, etc. so yes. Most are more powerful than the ego
I have several Milwaukee string timmers and your assessment of more power isn't based on real world use. The best thing about the newer Milwaukee trimmer is the ability to put the pole saw attachment on, which is as good as gold.
