It’s actually amazing and sort of reminds me of the matrix with the green marble. I also loved Mos Def’s performance and the overall message of the show. These new black designers are killing it and I’m here for it!!
Firstly...MORE MENS WEAR REVEIWS. Secondly I'm Ghanaian and really appreciate you doing your research on the GMG bags and the kente. In regards to the controversy surrounding it I do think selling what would be a $1 bag upwards of $300 is kinda weird. But I do really love the black and white kente look
Virgil's choice of including the "Ghana must Go" bag is extremely smart, considering that Ghanaians and a lot of west african people still use them when they're travelling, especially if they are flying back to their home countries. Very fascinating.
1:46 the asymmetrical suit might imply dressing in a rush, being late for the bus/plane something like that. I think it’s a great touch and it makes a nice silhouette
I'll give you that. It is a nice detail to bring it back to the theme, but it does not look good. It really just looks like the first time you let your kid dress themselves.
Luke, I really appreciate the amount of research you have started putting into these videos. No longer are you just a teenager spouting off your opinions (entertaining as that was). Now you are a critic, helping to explore and explain the history and culture of Fashion. All while maintaining your wit and humor. I don't always agree with you, but I am absolutely here for it! Love you.
I feel like mens ware in the fashion world doesn't get as much rep as it should - as someone who likes dressing in more masculine stylings, I really enjoyed the changes in silhouettes in these pieces. Great vid!
look for CdG - either Homme or Black...Black is better priced (intended to be cheaper because of the 2008 recession) and it is CdG trotting out some of their more fabu designs from time past
Would you ever consider doing fashion reviews of outfits in music videos(Kpop, Jpop, Rap, EDM, Indie, etc)? Fashion varies so much in music videos depending on brand, functionality and performer preferences so it would be interesting to see your thoughts on them.
As a native of Trinidad and Tobago, and a past art student, seeing Peter’s work being appreciated by such a large fashion house feels surreal, I know he’s Scottish born but still wow, Che Lovelace must be proud. Also, seeing Botter continue to grow also feels great as their Caribbean heritage runs throughout all of their collections. Another great Video Luke 🇹🇹 🗣
Whaaat! Damn I thought that collection was fire. Ok, Celine was not great for the first couple of years, but SS21 and (especially) AW21 were great collections!
it's so wild for me that these bags seem to be a staple of developing/third world countries. My Mexican grandma used these bags for storage back in the 80-90s. Even I used to have one for all my plushies. Seeing these bags again unlocked so many memories lol
This chanel is not only giving me runway fashion knowledge and fashion gossip is also giving fashion history and important cultural facts, this is just * chef kiss *
Have you read Min-Ah Pham? She looks at cultural appropriation critically through the "chinatown bag" as you've shown here with the Ghana bag. As a sidenote, the history of kente is so fascinating I wonder if you'd ever want to cover it on your channel somewhere (Boateng is a good read on the topic).
I don't care for the look as a whole, but the cloth itself is beautiful. I think there is a way to express your honest opinion without being insulting. I don't like the idea of censoring people based on their race. I've seen debates among native Africans and African-Americans about who has the right to speak on cultural appropriation issues and gatekeeping. Should people of one ethnic group/tribe wear a specific print created by/with great historical and cultural significance of another? Do African-Americans have the right to call others for doing this even if they are descended from the group being appropriated from? Do you see how this gets convoluted very quickly? Everyone should be allowed to think freely and express themselves in a respectful manner. Those most impacted should lead the conversation, but all voices are valid.
"Does Rick Owens have conservative customers?" Over the past year or two a lot of people have been getting into and buying Rick Owens because of trends and rappers, Rick is clearly getting in his bag (as he should since we're in a pandemic) by making more wearable pieces and I can't wait to see more people wearing Rick, the most I see out of rappers and hypebeasts except Young Thug and Carti is a pair of Ramones or Creatch Cargos or a piece from the Moncler collabs to flex in, you rarely see some normal dude in an avant garde piece so this is a cool change.
I am that normal dude who wears ricks owens, also my partner :) my partner's youtube channel is @inkarlcerating and you will see him style rick owens (androgynous styling)
I mean, yeah but Rick Owens' clothing (and not to mention, shoes) are so expensive though. It's charging Dior Men/Gucci prices without the intense publicity machine behind it. Even DRKSHDW's price points are ridiculous for what is essentially a black hoodie. I like to spend money on clothes but I balked at what a leather jacket would cost - and I checked that it's already 50% off.
That look at 20:09 is my favourite featured in this video. It’s just so cool. I want that suit in every colour. I feel like you could wear that for literally any occasion
I I absolutely love how you are so informative and non-biased in you approach to explaining the history of the pieces from designers. Kudos, you've done your research. P.S. please give us your take on the whole Andre situation. If anyone can give us the most informed, non-biased explanation of it; its you Luke!
Luke super love that you do your research but the Maasai cloth (known as Shuka) isn’t influenced by the Scottish w regard to pattern. I believe the Scottish influence was a switch to cotton from leather.
I was honestly so impressed by Virgil wow. His collection was so beautiful and he continued to incorporate a handful of symbols and traits throughout the collection were rightfully noted. I much prefer his work in this season of LV when compared to his work in Off White.
My husband grew up in Ghana, and we actually own some of those bags! I didn't know about the history of them. It's very interesting, and now something I want to educate myself on more! Thanks for all your research!
In my head Rick can't do no wrong collection, even his more odd collections are a breath of fresh air, his clothes are so so wearable, even the crazy ones that I think it's more about the styling here rather than the real construction
i literally put Virgil in my essay for ap world history and combined a lot of the information that Luke has provided as well as my own research into this essay ... ik imma get a good grade! I've just been obsessed with this channel lately lmaoo !!
I would love a video where you show 10 pieces that you would love to have in your wardrobe -- maybe pieces that would work together. That would help me develop a better eye for what works and what doesn't.
My parents did a ton of trade with Nigeria and I had no idea they were called "Ghana Must Go" bags... I've seen them all my life so the more you know! I feel that Virgil is taking much more inspo from Africa than Scotland. It is very rare that the big/high fashion houses explore Africa, especially in a non-cringe fashion so I would like to see much more exploration in this space
Wow! 😳 Well It's safe to say someone's a grower. That LV collection feels classic af, seasoned with some Black history to top off the month of February! **Chef's kiss**
Some of those Rick Owens coats had me drooling! And the Botter collection seemed like fun! Hadnt heard of them before this but will definitely keep an eye out.
