      @Powerful Oprah thats really the case with most things isnt it? Such as diamonds, or that app that cost 1k just to say you are rich, people value things more that they pay a lot for even if its just expensive trash, also to display wealth or status to other people. Hence the logos being centrepiece in many of these fashions, they want everyone to know the brand they are wearing, in a way people wear it to tell other people they are rich or upperclass. Its interesting to watch, but makes me sad to see kids on min wage incomes feeling like they need to buy this stuff thats clearly not in their price range just to keep up socially.

      But there are so SO many other brands Gucci 🤔 the leader of the logo-pack,
      Don't know you or your taste in style but gonna name a few that are different from eachother: Ann de Meulenmeester, Maison Margiela, schrimps, Loewe, Staud,
      Like there is very everyone and if you don't like these or others go vintage.
      But from time to time i love a bit of logo "when i 'm in my logo bitch mood day"
      Znd if i don't like it (aka can't afforte it ) but then i just don't look at social media too the "logo brands" and scrolle thru sunsets & flowers and then i think "what logo " you should try "
      No please don't come after me okay? Just my opinion & me trying to be funny & sarcastic 🤷🏻‍♀️🤣

      @@carmengrauwels and even gucci is a lot more than those logo pieces. Alessandro Michele collections are usually very philosophical, talk about a bunch of topics and are packed with references. Those logo pieces are often just to cash out from dumb rich kids and instagram influencers. I recommend you all to take a look at the bliss foster analysis of the gucci fw 2018

  • @lauriehill_jpg
    @lauriehill_jpg 3 ปีที่แล้ว +160

    as far as I know the collection was a conscious 'quoting' of Demna's aesthetics for Balenciaga, and Alessandro did in fact request permission from the brand and Demna himself, but you're right it's not a 'Gucci x Balenciaga' collaboration in that Demna was in the studio with Alessandro creating things, Gucci were I believe just given free rein to use what they liked.
    i also think a collaboration like this is very significant, simply because it is these two brands specifically. Gucci and Balenciaga have been responsible for some of the biggest fashion stories, trends and meme baiting in the past 5 years. I really believe a collection like this is a completely self aware comment on their own influence on the industry, and their own effect on hyperconsumerism.
    It's kind of Warholian in a way?
    I know that's all very pretentious, but Alessandro himself puts such enormous amout of stock into the inspiration and story behind his collections he never half-asses anything he does in the research department, so I feel it almost requires a slightly deeper analysis.

You have such a wealth of knowledge: it would be so lovely to see nods to 20th century fashion designers' works and their lasting influence. Example: Elsa Schiaparelli : and how her designs influenced so many designs today. Exposed zippers, gaucho pants, screen prints, ironic tee-shirts etc. I know her personal clothing was also photographed when her granddaughter sold it at auction a few years ago: hearing about those pieces would be so interesting from your perspective.

    Ralph Lauren introduced his Polo pony logo on the cuff of his women's dress shirts in 1972. Jordache and Calvin Klein used to put their names on their jeans. Chanel went logo crazy in the '80s too. It's hard to say who kicked off "logo mania" but RL definitely spearheaded it.

    Okay, I have a confession; I don't get fashion. When I was younger, I thought high-end brands like Chanel, Gucci, LV were revolutionary like they came up with designs that would change the fashion world and the common masses who couldn't afford those brands would steal those designs; their prices were justified not only by the materials they used to make those statement pieces but also the creativity/vision. These days I feel like these brands just stamp their logo on some basic designs and the price can somewhat be justified by the material, not the creativity.

    • @girlwhomustnotbenamed4139
      @girlwhomustnotbenamed4139 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, but how do you change the fashion world every six months when almost everything amd anything has been invented, tried and even worn by people? It's kind of impossible. It was way different 50-100 years ago when you could be a revolutionary by putting women in pants.

    • @shayb6830
      @shayb6830 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@girlwhomustnotbenamed4139 Then perhaps they should stop putting on fashion shows every six months? It's often neglected how much carbon footprint the fashion industry has, especially these high-end brands. Putting on shows, for example, once a year would also increase the enthusiasm people have for their ideas, not just the logo. Also, I think it was also previously mentioned on this channel that giving designers such a short period of time hinders their creativity.

      @@hautelemode YES for sure! As an Italian I love this kind of reference. Also the pattern on the boots and on the bags reminded me the marble stone of the Firenze cathedral and bell tower😍 I'm so glad you saw my comment and not just liked it but also responded. You mentioned in your last Tik tok thrift flip review video that you hoped luxury brands would start using their fabric waste to create other garments, sets, bags, accessories, etc. as a sort of “official” version of the thrift flips individuals are doing themselves online. I found that an absolutely fascinating idea, and I’d like to think the mashup, “hacking” styles in this show are a great potential step (at least ideology-wise) in that “thrift flip” direction for luxury fashion. Here’s hoping!🤞

    Hacking means Allesandro was purposely and cheekily taking ideas from Balenciaga to put his own twist on it....as in hacking a site on the computer to whisk away it’s “proprietary” things. I think AM wants to show how we all usurp ideas (good intentions or bad) and how we should HAVE FUN! I also believe he nods to his muse, Harry Styles, with the anatomical heart purse since HS has a large tattoo on his left upper arm of such heart.

    The idea of wearing the knife-boot option in black with a coordinated suit would be my dream outfit. One query: @16:19 a white rabbit means...? Maybe an anti-hunting reference? I know that fox hunting with the local rich people on horseback(with rabbit as the bait) used to be acceptable, but really not sure of the bunny's role in this collection. A fantasy outfit that I LOVED but would never ever wear, is the floral suit @24:05.

    Do you think that a non fashion person, who doesn’t get historical fashion references, but loves to buy luxury for hype, would have gotten the “hacking” of Balenciaga without the obvious elements (Balenciaga written on top of the Gucci logo). Because at first I was like, this looks like the bootleg jumper that you can get with all the logos on top, but then I was like, are they appealing to the “hype” costumer that only goes as far as Balenciaga sock shoes and won’t get the more sutil references? Would it have been a more interesting collection if the overlapping was done in a simpler, more referencial and less, I don’t know, obvious way in some pieces, or do you think that was necessary? I don’t know if I am explaining myself, but would like to hear some input on that ✨
