  • Today, on “What’s in My Case?” Wednesday, Associate Principal Flute Alison Fierst shows us the special detail that makes her flute not only beautiful, but easier to play. She also advises musicians to take inspiration from all art forms to improve their practice sessions. As a bonus: guess which former New York Philharmonic principal musician has signed Alison’s flute case!
    Music selection: Faure “Sicilienne”

    Wow, surprising to see Muramatsu representation in a top-level orchestra, I was under the impression that they all played Brannen/Powell/Haynes, or Miyazawa/Sankyo/Altus if they played a Japanese-made flute because Muramatsus are fairly one-dimensional in terms of color (they're absolute powerhouse flutes though). Cool stuff, love the flute and setup!

      The 9k already has a change of colour, once you make the smallest dynamic change.
      I don't know where you are from, but in Europe, Muramatsu are some of the most strongly represented flutes in the orchestra 😂

    Do you own a bass flute? What repertoire would you play on it?

    What's the toughest piece to play on a flute?

    • @dasteufelhund
      @dasteufelhund 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on your level and the scope of the piece.

      look up chant de linos on youtube, or ibert concerto, or liebermann sonata movement 2, or liebermann flute concerto movement 3, or taffanal frieschutz or anything bach lol

      @@gcg8187 Nailed it, emphasis on the Bach and Liebermann - if you want pure technical difficulty, I'd add in the Rodrigo concerto. Other cool works are the Zyman sonatas (both of them) and the Nielsen concerto
