@@footballfan8275 Yeah, that's not how our legal system is supposed to work in America. We're supposed to have arrests, trials, and sentencing, not summary executions. Beyond that, only a few crimes merit the death penalty. So, "jaywalking" "resisting arrest" "vandalism" "selling loose cigarettes" etc. aren't capital offenses. It doesn't make sense when the cops kill anybody for those kinds of reasons, whether the people were breaking the law or not. George Floyd wasn't killed in the process of committing a robbery. And even if he was, you don't get to just brutally murder criminals in your custody. It's animalistic to continue to attack a person once they're helpless.
Calling the song "Children’s Story" is super clever. A lot of the stories that we're told as children are cautionary tales, and that’s exactly what the song's message conveys. super cool!
La Di Da Di is his most sampled song. Slick Rick served time in prison for attempted murder, was almost deported back to the UK and was subsequently pardoned. The Great Adventures of Slick Rick is classic and the mark of a great rapper was how well you can tell a story...

Not only was it a clever retelling of a fairytale classic, as a Midwesterner who grew up skating it was fantastic to hear the moment Dane's skateboard turned into a Volvo. It could have been a bike. Lots of kids have bikes. The lyrical choice made me feel more connected to the story and like I understood Dane on a deeper level as a person.

He is known as one of the greatest storytellers in hip hop and he has one of the most timeless flows & deliveries of all time. He flows effortlessly on a track. This particular song is on the album 'The Great Adventures Of Slick Rick which is one of the most classic hip hop albums of all time. Classic album by a true pioneer! Slick Rick’s second album though “The Rulers Back” is impeccable. His rhyme flows and storytelling goes way ahead of it’s time on the second record. Your pops caught the British accent yup, that’s one thing I love about his style. The accent is subtle and still has lots of NY in it.
Unfortunately, growing up in the hood those were the things my parents were concerned with, and the discussion that needed to be had at an early age. 1988 was the peak of drug dealing and gang banging. We were exposed to those things as early as 8 to 11 years old. what made Ricky so special was not just his storytelling but how he animated the lyrics and gave the words life. this is different then the hard monotone style guys had back then. he was jovial, brought an element of comedy
Two points. One I personally believe there was more styles of hip hop back in the day. Rakim, KRS-One, Dana Dane, Kurtis Blow, Big Daddy Kane, Kwame, etc.. Two, this is the type of conversations we have to have with our kids in order to extend their life expectancy

Your Dad's analogy on how the story started and how it was actually sad was so on point. And Touché' "he dropped the gun and still got shot" some things never changed. That's a Word!! Peace and Blessings!!
This song never gets old
I absolutely never thought about the ominous tone after the end and how it matches the story!! See...this is why I watch these videos
This beat is crazy.
One of the best story telling rappers of all time. Glad he enjoyed!
Ahaaa! One of the greatest story rhymes down to this day!!
I just discovered your guys' channel and I love it! Keep up the good work fellas!!
Try reacting to another great story rap, KRS-1 Love's Gonna Getcha
Yes, Rick Tha Ruler was born in the UK
This channel is really interesting to me.. I’m 38 now I used to collect vinyl and work in streetwear (hanon shop) in my 20s.
This is like reliving my good old days.
KI with the fits (selvedge) and solid taste in music. It’s also awesome how open his dad is..
good vibes lads ✌️
There ya go! ..the legend ...good stuff..
This is so fun...
Don't know how I found you both a few weeks ago. Now I look forward to the videos and can't wait to see the next after each one. Admittedly I wasn't a huge slick rick fan. But he was big just before I would really be introduced to real rap/hip-hop music.
Hahaha this is my favorite song. I look forward to this
Aye, Uncle Ricky..this beat is 🔥! So glad you both listened to this. So ko0l!!
Can’t wait to see!
I'm so impressed by how well studied you are. A true hip hop fan. We love that.
Thank you! More good stuff comin’!
I think dad should start to get to know the producers of these songs. This way he can start to recognize signature sounds.
Good point. I’ll let him know from now on!
Then you can ease him into J Dilla! 👏🏽
what made Ricky so special was not just his storytelling but how he animated the lyrics and gave the words life. this is different then the hard monotone style guys had back then. he was jovial, brought an element of comedy
Two points. One I personally believe there was more styles of hip hop back in the day. Rakim, KRS-One, Dana Dane, Kurtis Blow, Big Daddy Kane, Kwame, etc.. Two, this is the type of conversations we have to have with our kids in order to extend their life expectancy
One of the dopest channels on TH-cam. Love the dynamic between you and your dad. I love my dad so I get it...
If you want to keep the storytelling theme going maybe you could do "Biggie - I got a story to tell" next.
Seeing dad always noticing these different things and liking story telling he may like Rewind from Nas a lot, it’s an amazing song
Beautiful the chemistry💗 would love to see you perspective on Ab souls , book of soul
Y’all are always thoughtful and honest in these reactions and it’s such a pleasure to watch. Thank you for the content. Love it. I think along these same lines La Di Da Di by Slick Rick and Doug E Fresh has to be done.
My Summer vacation by ice cube
It explains how gangs spread from LA to other states. Literally one of the most slept on rap stories ever. I recommend it to every hiphop head and the FrontRoom of course
Love that song ❤️
Yes!!!!
I'm new and loving these. Ex A&R for Universal in New Zealand. These videos give me great joy thanks.
Great song! Love your channel guys! My favorite rapper of all time Mos Def does a "cover" of this song on his black star album! Would love to hear your dad react to any Mos Def song I think he would like his music!
My fave by him is Ghetto Rock!
Which song? Not Ms. Fat Booty everyone suggest that.
He would love mathmatics
DUDE you dad picks up on EVERYTHING!
Hey guys I recommend another UK legend by the name of Lowkey. His first album "Soundtrack To The Struggle" went down in UK hiphop history. A reflection of a great awakening and riots in the UK in 2011.
Roots Manuva - Dreamy Days
Nice!
I graduated in 88 and this was an instant classic!!
Try Ladi Dadi - Slick Rick.
Keep up the great work!
Check out the song "The Show" by Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick
Yesss, I hope they react to it!
I support you guys. Love watching the content. This song was so huge when I was a kid.
Do a full album review of the Great Adventures of slick Rick, great album full of interesting stories. Also his other great sampled songs “the show” “Lodi dodie”. He is from England, on album (previously mentioned) “the moment I feared” is the adult cautionary tale compared to the children story
“Some things never change.” Ain’t that the sad truth. This was a huge record for B-Boys and we little kids never even understood the gravity of the message. Danced through the trauma I guess. Part of the brilliance and allure of Hip Hop as a culture. Salute to Slick Rick The Ruler. Check out his collab w/ Doug E Fresh “The Show”
Children stories are usually horrible in nature anyway. But this song is legendary to me. Glad you listened to your community. Hats off to ya
I love this song. I was in high school when it came out, so it holds fond memories. I also love Teenage Love by Slick Rick, would
love to see you guys cover that song.
