Most Definently. '72 here. With the music we got from our parents and what came out our teens, 20s and 30s, its 100% the best music ever made. 90% of what they make now is the same warmed over bullshit with tone fitting whatever genre they are trying to fit it in. Beyonce doing "country" is absolutely stupid and an insult to real country. I say the same if she did a rock record that sounds like Beyonce with metal guitars.

You do a great job with your analysis man. As a Gen-X guy, I appreciate your respect for the music I grew up with. I was born in Alabama myself, but we moved to Washington DC when I was 8 in 1980. And became very fortunate to see most of these MCs and DJs perform at the Capital Centre - shows with four-five groups any given night. The best live sets were Eric B/Rakim, Stetsasonic, Public Enemy and Run DMC. It was Magic man. Speaking of Stetsasonic - you should check out "Sally." Unlike anything you may have heard so far. They play all their own instruments and the drummer is tight.

Slick Rick moved to the Bronx at the age of 12. He was a TOTAL BRONX CREATION as a rapper. All his references from the “D Train on 205” which was the last stop on the D train IN the Bronx to crashing his car into a tree on “University” (University Ave in the Bronx) were from the hood he learned the game in. And why not? The Bronx has always been the official home of Hip Hop & Rap!

I was a dj back in the late 80's early 90's. Slick brought Everyone to the dance floor. Grandmas, aunties, whatever! People actually went to the club to dance and socialize with the ladies. People were respectful. if someone got out of line, their own homies put them in check. there might be a fight, but hey...no cameras. you could get a drink with someone who just blacked your eye and call a truce. times have changed. BUT LETS GET BACK TO DANCING AND HAVING FUN IN HIP HOP DAMMIT.

The story and flow still slap. It's a classic. The music video was goofy tho, but I don't blame the artists for that. That was the record company influence

Slick Rick, the legendary rapper, wears an eye patch due to an injury he sustained when he was a teenager. In 1983, Rick was involved in an incident where he was shot in the eye during a robbery attempt. The gunshot left him with severe damage to his eye, and he had to wear the eye patch as a result.
