I seen the episode today and it made me cry tears of joy when Gohan turned SSj 2. Honestly there best episode to date.

I get the jokes but they are not as funny as earlier In the series
the jokes have a different tone to them, so it's true that they aren't of the same taste as before, i enjoyed them, as i always have but they can get lost in the dramatic nature of this finale, and that's honestly a good thing because if dbza was all comedy no drama it'd be a one-track gag the mix of tones adds flavor and an extra level of viewer appreciation as they manage to keep to the canon a great deal, but with that TFS comedic irony flair to it.

I always feel bad when they make the "Goku not being a good father" joke. I mean, he sure isn't the best father in the world, but both times he died (deaths that Gohan is aaaalways complaining about), he died protecting Gohan. And the times he was training like the 3 years before the androids and the year in the time chamber were because if he didn't, they'd all die. Also, the time he trained to master the instant transmision ended up saving Piccolo and Tien's lifes, and i bet Gohan wouldn't exchange Piccolo and Tien's lifes for 1 year of being with his father. Let's be honest, in a universe like Dragon Ball, you can't expect to live a peaceful life.
Other than that joke, everything is great in this episode!
I agree. Goku's not any where near the greatest father in the world sure, but Piccolo isn't really father of the year himself.

I mean you can make the argument that he isn't a bad dad in the original series, but it's made explicitly clear that Goku is a bad dad and husband in this universe. He's detached, he doesn't take time to get to know or please his wife and child, and in a lot of ways he chooses to train because it's fun -- not because he has to. Piccolo puts it best in this episode when he asks if Goku has EVER asked Gohan what he likes to do or what he wants out of life and Goku just stands flabbergasted that his son wouldn't want to put his life on the line repeatedly for the rest of his life. Goku in the official TV series is a polarizing figure but the argument can be made that he's a good dad -- Goku in the abridged series is explicitly described and acts like a shit-tier dad.
Goku only trains because it's fun in the regular series too, that's like 1:1 accurate. It's not like they haven't been trying to get Goku and Gohan in good ways...it's just not enough.

Man . . . . . when you think about it 16 might have a point. Future Trunks had a debatably worse childhood than Gohan. I mean at least all of Gohan's Friends and family WON/SURVIVED their battles in the end via Sensu Beans and Dragon balls but F.Trunks had neither of those safety nets. To make matters worse he is the first last line of defence so he never rest easy.
Future Trunks can literally never catch a break. Even when people are finally managing to rebuild after the whole deal with the Androids, Goku Black shows up and ruins everything in his future AGAIN.
I like Future Trunks because his entire character represents the one small bit of hope within a world of despair.

Hey Kaggy just watched a new video by Devil Artemis. It had a pretty funny refrence to you so maybe you could use it in a future mashup video.

I remember seeing this part when TFS released it and I had to legit pause it because I was surprised how much Goku planned out. Except for Gohan's lack of desire to fight. He isn't a bad father he just thinks his son who has already fought multiple times up to now even Freeza on Namek he gave a beating to would want to be like his father. It makes sense that Earth's next protector be someone Goku KNOWS is stronger and would protect Earth from evils. He thought Gohan's Saiyan half would make him want to fight more but it wasn't enough. And he realized his mistake and sacrificed his life to try and fix it.

Ya know it's interesting because what Goku wanted with Cell is real within Dragon Ball. Cell is the representation of the past generation. Goku, by wanting Gohan to defeat Cell, was looking for someone to take his place. As the conqueror of the past, Gohan could lead the present. However, Goku made the mistake of assuming his son was nearly identical to him. He never guessed that once Gohan transformed he would have more arrogance than even Vegeta. This would lead to Cell wanting to self destruct and Goku having to once again save everyone. Later on in the Buu arc, Goku realizes this even further when Gohan yet again becomes arrogant against Buu. So the caveat to winning was by coming to a new conclusion that no one person can save everyone or become the strongest on their own. Instead, he can work with his enemies and allies alike and together, they can become stronger. This culminates in three ways. Vegito. Uub. And well, in Super, the battle against Jiren.
