There was a 'through service' from NSL (Ang Mo Kio) to EWL (via Jurong East, towards Pasir Ris) before as well. Hopefully this service can be restored one day too, and maybe the EWL can alternate their Eastbound terminus between Pasir Ris and Changi Airport during off-peak hours or something just like how CCL currently does
Interesting, so it's still possible for them to run through-services if they wanted to. I really think they should restore the through-service at least for off-peak hours.
A few years before the Changi Airport branch commenced revenue service, I remember alighting at Tanah Merah because the train I was taking to Pasir Ris developed a fault. They brought in a spare train from Changi Depot and it arrived at the middle platform while the train we alighted limped out of the eastbound platform. I believe that was the first and only time I took a train to Pasir Ris from the middle platform at Tanah Merah.
@@HeliosExeunt Yes. Before the Changi Airport Extension commenced service, Tanah Merah middle platform was used as a spare platform for scenarios like yours. Similar to Ang Mo Kio now.
I remember sitting in a train that entered the middle platform at Tanah Merah towards Changi Airport instead of Pasir ris. It was many years ago. Very very rare indeed. Also have heard before from someone’s experience that after the train entered the middle platform it travelled downward to Changi Depot!!
They never removed the points to run a 'through service' to airport, though they stopped running to save wear and tear on those points. Same for any EWL to NSL through service at JE or City. But yes it is very rare these days. Would be icing on the cake if RATIS and DRMD made it direct to Changi from mainline like Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line.
Just like how the CCL currently operates during weekday peak hours of alternating between Dhoby Ghaut and Marina Bay from Harbourfront / Pasir Panjang. The NSL should alternate between Jurong East and Yishun as well (like, Jurong East Platform A then D, then Yishun then back to Platform A and so on) if they still want to retain Yishun as their peak hour terminus station
Indeed, but it does happen. I think having the train enter the Changi branch line on alternative trains should be incorporated to the network because sometimes waiting times on the branch line peaks at 20 minutes.
@@LucasDiep this isn’t normal. Changi Depot did not deploy T103 today (probably due to down trains) and a train from mainline EWL was routed to Changi Airport instead. Usually T103 will arrive Tanah Merah at 7:18pm on weekdays.

I think they should reintroduce this service, but maybe during off peak hours like 30 mins or so to avoid confusion

Fun fact, from February 2002 to July 2003, trains eastbound would alternate, terminating either at Pasir Ris or Changi Airport.
They should reincorporate it!

WHAT?! This is rare for trains to go from main to branch line

Coincidentally the featured article on Wikipedia for yesterday (17 Oct) was Changi Airport MRT lol 😂
Is it only for today? I didnt see like this before
I hope if new platform can direct to can direct to Changi Airport and the old platform can direct to Tuas Link
Cool
Is this normal and if so what time is this service?

@@sgt2581 I see. Did the TRN become 103 after it got to Tanah Merah?
I hope R151 will spam CGL instead of stupid KSFA spamming CGL
