If you have any further questions feel free to ask, but yes you could make a living off of kettle corn. I just work for this company, and I make $35,000 a year. If I worked for myself I make this company a lot more than what I take home, and a kettle costs about $6,000 or so and that pays itself off in a couple days, depending on if you know what you are doing.
Thanks it is nice meeting you guys!! I work for this company and I love doing it also. I have made kettle corn for 4 years now, and I do and go to a lot of areas. It isn't about the money. It is about making people happy, and making new friends, and your family members happy too!! Everybody loves kettle corn, and you are right. The kettle heats up to 400 degrees and does not need to be cleaned that often. Only like 3 months or so.
That looks like a blast to make and delicious to eat lol awesome video and I hope you do end up selling it in stores if you were in North Carolina I'd buy some love Kettle Corn.
Thanks friend. I started my own kettle corn business 4 years ago. I hope to get into retail stores this year. It is nice to meet you. Please follow me on my Facebook page.
All that 'fun' you have then you end it with "On a hot day, it's a bitch!" ... It's like money in your pocket ... Enjoy your job, bro!! Great job on the cooking!! ;)
These machines are old. About 10 years or so. They’re used everyday. The bowl itself where the popcorn goes into was what I cleaned. So. That’s the best I could control. I wasn’t owner then. The company had another department the shop and they couldn’t keep up with cleaning everything. We got different trucks each day and couldn’t control which kettles we got.
Dan, this is an awesome video. I have always wondered how much money you can make at one of these stands. What's the daily revenues at an average market? How much do you pay the market owner for a space? Really appreciate the feedback.
Outside the bowl no. But where the actual food touches things yes. Unfortunately I wasn’t the owner and was given different vehicles with different machines each day and couldn’t choose a cleaner machine. But the bowl itself was cleaned everyday. Where the popcorn landed.
Is there a specific brand of Popcorn or type of oil you should use. I've tried to make this at home in my Black Iron Pot that I pop corn in all the time and it just SUCKS. It's almost like a burnt taste but it isn't burnt, it's just NASTY. Any idea what I'm doing wrong????
hello my name is Dennis, i'm from indonesia, and i want sell popcorn to but i had some problem so i need your help. i want to ask some question 1. how big the fire if we want to make with original stove? it must be big or not? because i use big fire but make my corn charred (i use big wok too). how many gram you use oil? 3. and the last, how to keep popcorn crunchy for long time, cause in my experience, if i wrap my popcorn just a few days later the popcorn became soggy, thank u
How much popcorn were you using? How much sugar were you adding to it? When I try to make it with my Wirly pop it seems like I get too many burnt pieces and cooked sugar cubes, lol.
When you pop the popcorn you measure the amount of oil that goes in the bowl. I should have used a measuring device but I have used it for so long I know what the right amount of oil is. But the popcorn dumps in the catch, and underneath you shake the popcorn and all the seeds fall down below.
There isn't any oil left it gets absorbed by the first 12 or so kernels or sumthing I make it at home n the oil is never left over that's why u gotta dump it quick otherwise the hot pan burns the bottom popcorn
I don't know how Olive Oil works with the temperature. I've used Coconut Oil and it came out ok. However if you alter the recipe and don't use Soy Bean Oil it might not burn as evenly. Like the corn might come out darker.
Which oil do you buy from Costco? And where do you get your sugar and mushroom popcorn from. I just trying to figure this all out my work just purchased one of these so I'm trying to figure out where to buy it all I've found WEBstaurant to ha've the popcorn pretty decent price. Thank you.
Hello Lindsay, The best and by far the best corn to use is Magic Mushroom Corn. They come in 50 Pound Quantities. The best kind of sugar to use is Cane Sugar from C&H. Yes the gentlemen is right. That is Kirkland Soy Bean Oil. A lot of people don't like Soy Bean Oi. I believe the Mushroom Magic Corn we get is called Mushroom Corn. It is sold by Conagra. There has been some serious droughts in the United States, so buying or finding a supplier in bulk Kernals for Kettle Corn has been pretty hard.
Kettle corn makers in my town have lids on their pots. They have a crank that turns a couple paddles at the bottom of the pot. When the corn is popped they flip the pot over just like this fellows does. The lid has a hinged flap that opens to let the popped corn fall out. The part of the lid that opens is about 40% of the size of the pot opening. The fixed part of the lid has the bearing for the shaft the paddles rotate on. Even the fixed part is removable, but it has wing nuts holding it on. One outfit has a motor that turns the paddles, others have the cook turn the crank by hand.

Cool!
Thanks for the response! What is the cheapest oil to use as well? Vegetable or canola?
Cameron Rogers Soy Oil
😊
What type of pot are you using. I'm wanting to make my on. How big is it and is it a well seasoned stainless pot.
Toby Whitney copper pots are the best
Just buy a clear facemask from Harbor Freight my man. That way you can enjoy seeing the corn pop. They're only about $4 guesstimating
that kettle never gets cleaned
Noticed that too.

Hi daniel,i have the same machine, like you,but the flame on the pilot its to yellow,do you know how can i fixed it? Thanks in advance
ok so I just made the kettle corn and it was a total failure. Still a good vid though. Mom will have to eat something else :(
HyperCubedFaery Are you making it on the stove?

I’ll try to use a whirly pop but from watching other videos it’s not the same. These flavors are really designed for bigger machines.
Wow
Wherr can u buy the popcorm maker and do u know how much they run for?
About $5,000 new
Im thinking of starting a kettle corn business in your opinion can you make a living doing it? Thanks for the video
Where does the oil drain after you dump the popped kernels into the second container? Any reply is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
When you pop the popcorn you measure the amount of oil that goes in the bowl. I should have used a measuring device but I have used it for so long I know what the right amount of oil is. But the popcorn dumps in the catch, and underneath you shake the popcorn and all the seeds fall down below.

Herb is exactly right
on a hot day this is a bitch hahahahaha
Fire the camera man lol
Yes. He's not that experienced. ha ha
Yep! Totally missed the part I wanted to see.
"I like to throw in a few test corns, and thats how i tell when the oils hot", doesnt wait for anything and just throws the rest of the kernels in...
Thanks for watching friend. I recorded this video 8 years ago. I had no idea it would be this big.

@@DanielSchmidt94521 oh. kayyy
what type of oil do you use? corn oil? canola oil?
Soybean
I use soy. I don’t add the sugar until it starts popping. I have an almost identical copper kettle, just much cleaner. Must wipe out after every batch
Corn.. Soy.. Gmo plant.. I rather use palmoil .
they make a screen to go over that...
Can I make this with olive oil?
I don't know how Olive Oil works with the temperature. I've used Coconut Oil and it came out ok. However if you alter the recipe and don't use Soy Bean Oil it might not burn as evenly. Like the corn might come out darker.
I wouldn't recommend Olive Oil as it has a very low "smoke-point" .
Peanut oil is best, then canola, then I think coconut, and then it varies.
Hi Daniel, thanks for the video. I have a question - I found that my popcorn sticks to each other due to the sugar. How do I avoid this?
+nikhilck What kind of bowl are you using? You should turn the heat up.
Hi Daniel, thanks for the suggestion, I'll try it. I am using a flat bottomed aluminum pan.
Less oil also makes a difference

+Santana de Heródoto No there isn't. It dumps right into the bowl. 90% of it actually goes right into the mesh area.
+Santana de Heródoto The company I worked for also recycled all of the waste that was underneath and gave it to a pig farm.
