Hi welcome to the foxhole. I appreciate your desire to be respectful of the band and the fans. I think you will be surprised by the quality if the music and performance in general. Nobody puts on a show like babymetal. They are almost always better live and su is one the best female rock singers out there. You should check out their interviews too. They are unfailingly polite and humble and always laughing and smiling. I hope to watch more of your reactions soon. If you want to see something amazing watch the live performance of tales of the destinies. There are few musicians who would even attempt to play it let alone try to dance to it.
Welcome to BabyMetal's world, unfortunately this is the wrong guide to start your journey because not only is not updated but also it's not objective and disrespectful towards certain part of the fandom. Yea yea I'm too sensitive whatever. Welcome to the wonderful world of happy metal that is BABYMETAL! Not only is Babymetal a unique group, every song is unique and different as they find new ways to blend different genres together with metal. No two Babymetal songs will sound alike. While hard rock and heavy metal are frequently lumped together, they are truly two different genres. Hard Rock takes its roots from Blues, while Heavy Metal tends to be heavily inspired by Classical music (as well as Hard Rock). Sometimes the line between the two gets very blurred. A good Hard Rock band from Japan is Band-Maid, while another good Japanese Metal band that doesn't use growls or screams is Lovebites. As mentioned in another comment, deep growls and frye screaming is a relatively recent development in metal.
If you want to know what a real Babymetal LIVE performance is like (LIVE is the way to go by the way) just take 6 minutes and watch this HQ pro shot video of a recent LIVE performance. Welcome to Babymetal, and interesting format! I do appreciate the effort to get to know the bands before reacting to them. Couple things: 1). This guide is not the best, but should help you stay somewhat informed. Cryptic Misery’s “Everything You Need to Know About Babymetal, Updated” is way better, more informative and concise, albeit longer. 2). I would suggest at least checking out a song or two to be sure that you like them. 3). Babymetal fuses J-pop style vocals with heavy metal music. Babymetal’s music doesn’t have too much growls and harsh vocals. And when they use it, it isn’t the girls doing them. 4). Babymetal’s lyrics are always positive, energetic and uplifting. 5). If you are not comfortable with the religious iconography, then the only song to skip is “BABYMETAL DEATH”, which is the one with the crucifixion. There are no sinister meaning, and the song is meant as an introduction song and lyrics are play on words: Desu (silent u) = we are / I am. Babymetal Desu = we are Babymetal 5). Suggestions to get you a solid sample of Babymetal: *Road of Resistance (Official Live)* *Headbanger (Legend 1997)* *Monochrome (Pia Arena MM, 2023)* If you don’t like these 3, then Babymetal may not be your cup of tea. 🤘🦊
Surprised you didn't put Megitsune in there since that is what most fans would say is THE definition of what best describes Babymetal. To further elaborate on what Ganimal83 was saying about the religious aspect. As mentioned there isn't any disrespectful annotations involved. First thing you need to get your head wrapped around is that, just like in videogames or comic books where there are fictional "gods" or "spirits", Babymetal is also using one as part of their lore or story. The creator, whom this video briefly touched upon, Kobametal, also thought it would be really cool to incorporate lore or story into the group as well which would "explain" how Babymetal came to be. Part of that was the "creation" of Su-Metal as before she was "Su-Metal" she was the idol jpop star, Sazuka Nakamoto from Karen Girls, as was mentioned. So she gets "reborn" as "Su-Metal" in the song Babymetal Death! As I said however, there is no intentional disrespect. Regardless of that, as mentioned, you can just skip that song if you feel uncomfortable with that. 99% of the Babymetal community are really nice and understanding. There is actually another youtuber that decided to skip on the reaction of that song as well just because he isn't sure he's comfortable with it either but the other songs he has really enjoyed. You'll find majority of their songs have a positive message spun into the lyrics. Things like ending bullying, Never giving up, fighting for what you believe in, and things like that. Musically, the best way to describe this group is a fusion of jpop and metal. For the most part, musically it's metal and vocally it's more closer to jpop, however that is a very rough approximation. You wont hear the girls doing that deathmetal growl that you probably aren't fond of although some songs do have that growl very lightly splattered in here and there, it isn't overbearing or over the top. It would be more like a sprinkle of salt here and there for flavour would be the best analogy that I can think of. Yui and Moa are not twins. They are not actually related, they ARE however best friends and enjoy each other's company a lot. Either way if you give Babymetal a try and find you're not enjoying them, that isn't a problem. What is important is that you're honest, but respectful. Some of the fans have literally watched these girls grow up from the age of 12 (perhaps younger even if they were already watching the Sakura Gakuin stuff) all up to now, where Su-Metal is now 26 I believe and Moa is 24 I think. So many fans almost look at these girls as their little sisters or something like that, but they are still very reasonable and understanding. Anyhow, looking forward to seeing part 2, although this video isn't a very good one as it is a bit sexist or controversial at times with what they say (example is when the narrator claimed Babymetal is really only meant for girls and all that stuff. Yes Su did make that statement, but that answer was based on what the question was which was referring if my memory serves me correctly, to one of their songs which talks about women growing up and having to hide their true emotions sometimes, or some question similar to that. Su, Moa, and Yui has also stated many times that Babymetal is for EVERYBODY, and they hope EVERYBODY can enjoy their music). However, the basic premise is still mainly accurate. Another problem with this version is that stuff has happened following this video so you'll basically get a history lesson about what fans typically refer to Babymetal 1.0, but you won't get to know anything about Babymetal 2.0.
@@ToxicCouple-Alg-Ua or do a reaction video because most of us like the first reaction. But if you don't like, then just don't post it, but if you did like it, then you have first reaction all ready. Also, simce you're not as into the metal aspect of Babymetal, if you want to slowly ease yourself into the waters of Babymetal inch by inch, for your first song, I would probably suggest maybe No Rain, No Rainbow Legend S Baptism XX. The Baptism XX is referring to Su-Metal's 20th birthday as it was her birthday around the time of that concert and that performance was partly to celebrate her birthday. Or you can do Light and Darkness, or Monochrome. If you do either of those I'd recommend the live versions PIA arena if you can as it was a beautiful concert the performance was stunning!

@@jeremyboynowski3784 good points, my 3 song suggestions were just my personal opinion of what embodies Babymetal. Megitsune is definitely considered, but not as much as the others (my opinion). Don’t get me wrong, I love the song, but left out for brevity sake.

Nice one, welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊 Good on you trying to find out about BABYMETAL before you react to any of their songs. That wouldn't work for everybody, but if it works better for you then as I said, good on you. There are a couple of more up to date guides about BABYMETAL as well (this one only goes up to about 2020 I think and has some out of date information and this one does contain a couple of controversial personal opinions from the person who made it, but it was the first and doesn't do a bad job). I think for you I would recommend "A Quick BABYMETAL Guide for the New & Probably Lost Fans" by Omajination - it is only 6 months old and is only about 12 minutes long as well. It also has some suggestions for songs for people who don't know BABYMETAL to listen to first. BABYMETAL is a metal band, but no they don't growl and scream. They do have some growls in their songs (on backing track - it is not the girls who do that), but only when there is context. They are very tuneful vocalists with beautiful voices. Metal was not always about growling and screaming, that was a relatively recent development over the last 20 years or so, but too many bands seem to think they have to do it to be "metal". BABYMETAL are like a breath of fresh air and have brought some melody back to metal - because of that they are also a more gentle introduction to metal for people who don't like growls and screaming but may like the instrumentals. About the performances with Su-metal being crucified ... those are theatrical performances relating entirely to their own lore at very specific concerts (Su-metal's 16th and 20th birthdays) and signify Su sacrificing her mortal existence and giving up her life as a JPop Idol to be reborn as Su-metal, chosen by the Fox God to lead the Metal Resistance. It is not religious at all, they have simply used symbology most people might recognise and associate with self sacrifice, death and rebirth ... and they went with the same sort of visuals that have been used by bands for theatrical purposes many years. If you really don't want to watch those performances simply avoid the song 'BABYMETAL Death' - although the song itself is simply an introduction song. There is no TH sound in Japanese, so the English word death sounds to them like the Japanese word desu (the U is silent) spoken with a slight lisp. Desu means 'to be, I am, you are, he is, she is, we are etc' and during that song when they say their names "Su-metal desu" and 'BABYMETAL Death" they are simply saying "I am Su-metal" and "We are BABYMETAL". I hope you will continue the guide or watch the one by Omajination that I mentioned earlier and then perhaps explore some of BABYMETAL's songs and live performances. As an Algerian it would be interesting to see what you think of one of their recent songs called 'METALIZM'. For one of their early songs I would suggest 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' (Bullying, No More, For Ever' live at Sonisphere 2014 in the UK. They were aged 16 and only just 15 and it was their first big event outside of Japan with over 50,000 UK metalheads who did not know who they were. This was the last song of the 5 they played that day and from not knowing what to expect you can hear at the end whether they had impressed the crowd.
