I was just so blown away, LOL! I spent 30 minutes in the forest just listening to the music. I didn't want to move because I didn't want to interrupt the music with my footsteps. It was that good!😊And the battle system and storytelling method is never boring.
Actually thats incorrect, he's not the first one to come up with the amnesia trope, that honor goes to Kazushige Nojima . Of course he joined square during its very early stages so people often get this confused but he passed it on to Hironobu. If you want to see its very early roots, check out the games Heracles no Eikō series, the third game in paticular was notable for its rather crafy and inventive writing beyond the norm of most rpgs at the time and when he joined Square in 1985, the quality of scenerio writing and the complexity behind many of square's naratives improved quite dramatically.
Amnesia exists in Horror genre yea... not that it was the first or will be the last. Ancient Chinese and mythology also had these type of characters. Although they didn’t do it on the main protagonist but if you just make one then it’s likely a good plot wise to an opening of any fantasy plots.
If only all the og final fantasy fans would support sakaguchi's company instead of pushing more money in square's ass, we would have much more great games like from the ps1 era

This game is on apple arcade because the game just wouldnt exist if apple hadn't commissioned the game in the first place. @Frozen noodles is right! Where were all the FF fans when blue dragon and lost odyssey came out? Where were they when last story was made? Mistwalker made some fantastic and ambitious titles during the 360 and wii days and these game didn't even make half of what and of the ff13 trilogy made. So classic ff fans can complain about this game being on apple. But not enough supported mistwalker when it really mattered. This what we are left with.
Agree but also if only Mistwalker had chosen better the platform (or the people how offer the money)... I'm sorry but if your are a small company trying turn bigger and bigger you cannot put your games only in one console/platform.
If you play this game on your iPhone or iPad and finish it within a month, you can cancel your Apple Arcade subscription and basically pay only $5 for one of the best old school JRPGs in the past decade.
I wish I knew somebody cool enough to let me borrow their iPad. Can't say I blame them though. I let a friend "borrow" a cutting edge (at the time) Samsung tablet and they up and ghosted me for it. That'll learn me.

It’s 5 fucking dollars. If you beat it within a month that’s all it will cost you. Or, for free if you’ve purchased any Apple device in the last 3 months. If the game isn’t worth $5 to you, then you don’t need to fucking play it. You’re not “cool” for stealing, especially when it’s so damn cheap
I don't condone it, but I understand the point. Paraphrasing from a famous high seas movie franchise, sometimes for you to do the right thing, you need to resort to the high seas. In mobile devices, Apple is too expensive for what it gives.
I love this game. I played FF in my twenties and this takes me right back. But what I love most is that you can play the game pretty much straight through and by the time you hit a boss you usually find yourself naturally strong enough, or near enough, to beat it. You might have to level up slightly but there is no hours and hours of grinding for XP required here. And the graphics and mechanics are just top notch. A wonderful game. Great review.

I miss prerendered backgrounds so much. Fixed camera angles on prerendered back grounds were so good at creating meaningful angles that you just don't get anymore.
Edit (26/5/2022): Despite the difficulty of the second part, I still had fun playing it. It did annoy me a few times, most notably during a certain boss in Part 2 where you are going to save Kina and Cheryl. Though, my experience with grinding and some strategy helped with mitigating the difficulty spike. I guess playing through Dragon Quest XI prepared me for what I'm going to face when it comes to JRPGs. Once you (and those who read this comment) get to Part 2, prepare yourselves. From that point on, the game will be very challenging. Even more so than a Shin Megami Tensei or SaGa game.
I'm playing it right now and I agree with your analysis. The nostalgia is dope. And I feel a blend of FF7, Drakengard, 3 and Tier, and all my other favorite JRPGs Square and/or Sakaguchi
I just "finished" this game and color me bummed the hell out when I found out it wasn't the complete game! I fell in love with the 90s JRPG vibe that it has going but felt shafted when I got to the end only to see "Part One" appear. Don't get me wrong, all I did was play this game this past weekend but getting to the end essentially locks you in the final area and you aren't able to go back and finish any side quests, bosses or items you may have missed. I wasn't done playing and the game was like 'too bad!' Worth a try though if you like Final Fantasy games despite my current frustration, I definitely liked the Dimengeon or whatever battle theme -- so catchy!
It seems like apple is fine with letting their exclusives after a period of time go to other platforms. Worlds end Club was apple only for half a year and now this year its dropping on switch. We shall see if down the line fantasian gets the same treatment.
Yeah pretty much every high profile AA game has ended up on other platforms after 6ish months.... shantae5, oceanhorn 2, exit the gungeon... it will just never appear on Android is all.

I just realized how wrong ive been about fantasian being an apple product thinking this game is a desperate wimper to get anything out on anything from mistwalker(basically anyone who would take us) and i realized, I was thinking from an American(western) mindset like i think most gamers in the west do, because of course we would but its one of those cases where its perfect to say hey USA the world doesn't revolve around you all the time.haha. Apple devices are the most commonly owned electronic devices in japan which means mistwalker hasn't never had a game(a full, real, non gatcha styled game) thats been this accessible to the their audience. Blue dragon and lost odyssey being on 360 was actually more of a gamble then this(considering x box's standing in japan) Unfortunately it was a gamble that didn't pay off for them sakaguchi hasn't had a player base this large that could access his game since ff9 due to everyone owning an iphone in japan. Fantasian is actually going to do extremely well, and will probably be mistwalker's most profitable game. If they were an American company it would make no sense. However the more i think about it, apple arcade is a brilliant idea if you're looking from the japanese pov since no one has an xbox, gamepass is something that would just not be as big over there but apple arcade, yeah actually that would work really well in japan takes up no space to play these games, they can play them anywhere(train commutes etc.) like shit! this is probably the smartest move sakaguchi has ever made for his company more people would play this game on iphone then they would a ps4 or ps5 in japan. it just makes way too much sense

2:20 Bro this is what I been saying for so long. This is the case for most all modern games these days, why I love classic rpgs because you really get that sence of scope and scale to a world and not spend 20 hrs fixeted on a single 4k high res location, like FF VII remake. It seems now a days developers are shackled to creative restrictions of what they can really protray in terms of volume and number of locations and even full design of the world because they are so focused on trying to replicate the game to adher to more modern design and conventions like FILM and fully rendered motion picture CGI. Give me a classic 60 hr experience with a massive world to explore and like 30 different towns, dungeons, with different cultures, soceites, etc and ill take that over some HIGH quality piece meal 4k rendred single location stretched into 50 hrs any day lol.
I'm absolutely heartbroken to know I'll never have access to this game. The more I see of it, the more beautiful it looks, and the more I want to experience it for myself. I'm so sad. 🥺
Apple has already ported some games to consoles so who knows. If they release it next year on Switch, it's a reasonable delay for an exclusivity and they might actually make some money out of this seeing there's a little Fantasian hype going on. Really hope they do (and that it will motivate Sakaguchi to stay a bit longer in the industry).

I remember Tim (from action button) speaking: brand don't make games. If you and a new FF like it was, you don't have to ask square (they only have the money), you have to ask to the people who did these games like Sakaguchi.

Oh... I hadn't heard of this. I really liked the mobile exclusive RPGs that Square Enix made before (Final Fantasy Dimensions and Chaos Rings), and one older one that I can't remember the name of from another publisher. I'll have to try this out. I'm actually in the middle of Lost Odyssey right now, since I never beat the game when it was new, but playing something new sounds even better.
Earthlock is what i recommend you to try. Indie, but man it's combat later on is so good. Rly try it out. It's on steam Earthlock 2 in development. It's a game based on old school jrpg's
I would like to play this, but whenever I play a game on my iPhone, I'm never invested in the story. Now if this game gets ported to PC, I would most likely find some enjoyment. Such is the case with Another Eden. When I first played it on my iPhone, I didn't get hooked at all. But with the recent PC port, I gave it another chance, and am actually looking forward to continuing it for the story.

Not really a "hidden" gem if you follow Sakaguchi's works or Mistwalker in general...the issue is that the game only released for apple devices which makes its market be very limited and niche . I really wish to see this game get ported to other devices as well so that more people can appreciate it but I kinda doubt it'll happen...or at least anytime soon .

Shantae and the Seven Seas did this too, it was an Apple Arcade exclusive until it was ported to PC and I was able to buy it on GOG, so DRM free!

Why does Mistwalker keep making really good JRPGs on consoles that don't have JRPGs?

I love Mistwalker, I've followed them ever since I stumbled on their masterpiece mobile game Terra Battle; and followd this game when it was announced but I am so so so sad I can't play it T-T

I'm sure I'm not alone in saying this, but if Fantasian does not come to Steam / Consoles, I will in fact be missing out, which is a shame. . . I want to experience it for the diorama world-building alone.

A few hours into it and I'm loving it, it's like a lost ps2 final fantasy. My gen 1 iPad pro runs it fine.
bruh i was waiting for this game to use my free trial of apple arcade, i played a few hours for now but this game is so good, it's a shame is only for apple arcade, with a few adjustment this game could easily see a console port

its worth getting atleast a month of apple arcade its so damn good. plus the monster storage mechanic is hella fun.
If this ever comes to any other platform it would be an insta-buy, the fact that this is chained to a mobile device and then only Crapple is downright sacrilegious!

Oh... I hadn't heard of this. I really liked the mobile exclusive RPGs that Square Enix made before (Final Fantasy Dimensions and Chaos Rings), and one older one that I can't remember the name of from another publisher. I'll have to try this out. I'm actually in the middle of Lost Odyssey right now, since I never beat the game when it was new, but playing something new sounds even better.
So this is actually a concept derived from Terra Wars IIRC which intended to use stop motion animations.

I would like to play this, but whenever I play a game on my iPhone, I'm never invested in the story. Now if this game gets ported to PC, I would most likely find some enjoyment. Such is the case with Another Eden. When I first played it on my iPhone, I didn't get hooked at all. But with the recent PC port, I gave it another chance, and am actually looking forward to continuing it for the story.
The game looks so cool, i dont own any apple products, so i hope it eventually gets ported to pc or console atleast.

I think dimengion is supposed to be a hybrid of dimension and dungeon so something like di-men-jun.

Not really a "hidden" gem if you follow Sakaguchi's works or Mistwalker in general...the issue is that the game only released for apple devices which makes its market be very limited and niche .
I really wish to see this game get ported to other devices as well so that more people can appreciate it but I kinda doubt it'll happen...or at least anytime soon .
Perfect for those who are still trying to find that FF in nowadays FFs, and getting let down by SE.
