    first thing I see is the character/npc models and immediately am blow away that they are soo clean and sharp for a game made for the Apple Arcade. Not to give any flak to people creating stuff for this platform, I just don't own an Apple product anymore to experience games from it. I have to give props for Sakaguchi and Uematsu for creating this ambition game with developing new ideas while also going back to the years and years of game development they have been apart of for so long. @HybridAngelZero 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    In one way, it's hard to accept that Sakuaguchi and Uematsu may never work on another project again, but they've been doing this longer than most of us have been alive.
    When it comes down to it, I'm just happy I got to experience so much if both of their works in the formative years of my life and beyond, both always inspired me and likely always will. And while I haven't gotten a chance to play Fantasian myself, it looks like everything I could have ever wanted in a send-off to these two legends

    • @BacklogBattle
      @BacklogBattle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for recognizing the inherent value of the game separate from where it comes out in. I know that it's never easy to appreciate games when it's not available on as many platforms as possible, but I also believe that the circumstances that make each game is part of what makes them unique. I played Fantasian during the free trial of Apple Arcade, and when part 2 comes out later, I'll gladly pay $5 to experience that as well. I think there's a larger conversation to be had here about the merits and values of subscription based gaming that this game brings up that is much larger than this one video can cover, which is why I avoided breaching the topic altogether.

    I bought an Apple TV last week just to play latest Sakaguchi-San and Uematsu-San. Out of respect for the experience and joy they brought me since childhood, I had too AND considering it could be their last full game. I know it has a part 2 but speaking for after this. I have a good time with it and I was already in Zero No Kiseki so I'll go back after full time into Fantasian, but of what I played, I know I'll love it.

    • @BacklogBattle
      @BacklogBattle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m eager to hear what you think and how it plays on that platform! Did you get the 4K one or just the regular 1080p one?

    • @DamTheLad
      @DamTheLad 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BacklogBattle I get the 4K one because it would have a better processor and theorically a better GPU too but I could be wrong, Apple is kind of...avoiding giving specs on their device.
      That said, it played tremendously well with my PS4 controller. Every prompt was accordingly put with the right button interface and I didn't even felt like playing a "mobile" game if you get what I'm saying here.
      I don't think the cutscene are processed to be played in 4k, I could be wrong again, but on my 4k screen, they were kinda losing the black tone in pixelated way, they were getting kinda blurry. I'll test it out when I'll play again on my 1080p screen if it was the case. But in-game, it plays very well in 4k.

    • @BacklogBattle
      @BacklogBattle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As a long time Apple user, I can tell you that specs don’t tell the story exclusively. Because they only run their own OS, they can tweak and make it so that the hardware and software work together to deliver a great experience for all. It’s not so different than what first party consoles do, actually, where specs typically don’t tell the whole story. Multiply that by a lot for Apple though.

    I've always been more on the "art independent of the artist" camp but I gotta say, it just personally makes me feel things when I hear you talk about it in regards to Sakaguchi and Uematsu. This is definitely a highly biased perspective on the matter but it just hits my heart and makes me want to play this game all the more.

    • @BacklogBattle
      @BacklogBattle  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think there's room for both perspectives tbh, which is why at the end, I mentioned that you could basically ignore everything I said about the history of the game's development and still find something worthwhile. However, knowing what went into this brings so much more depth to the game beyond what it is. As someone who graduated with a B.A. in Art, there's definitely interesting conversations to be had about the art of games, so thank you for bringing this up!

  • @GlibbyGloyper
    @GlibbyGloyper 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nice review. Being a Shenmue fan, I'm definitely of the camp that the passion of a game's team contributes to the enjoyment of the game. Not because it actually makes the gameplay better somehow; I played both Shenmue I and II in 2019 and the gameplay is obviously clunky in a lot of ways by modern standards. But really understanding what game directors are going for, how they tried to achieve it, and the impact it's perhaps had on the gaming world as a whole is a beautiful experience. Consuming art without trying to appreciate just an ounce of the effort that went into creating it is a waste. I don't have any Apple devices, but if Fantasian comes over to Android or the PS4, I'll have to consider giving it a look. :)

    • @BacklogBattle
      @BacklogBattle  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it’s certain a valid perspective to take. That said, not every developer choice is good and worthy of praise, and we as gamers with different tastes need to recognize that! It’s just one more way to appreciate games imo!

      @@BacklogBattle Yeah, definitely no pressure. I just imagined it's the kind of thing you might be into but I completely understand it's hard to keep up. It's not called backlog pattle for no reason.

    "But why apple arcade?" Is not a question looking for an answer.
    Thanks for talking about the game.

      Well, apple did fund this game.

    • @nickblomgren
      @nickblomgren 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lappodude Yes. And that's my point.
      At the time of release, this information wasn't just available: It was literally part of the games advertising campaign. Even though this was basic, incredibly accessible information, the amount of times people asked this question made asking the question disingenuous at best. The answer was available, and very simple: _Apple funded them. Case closed._
      So the reason to ask the question, became an empty excuse to either unload grievances on apple or the the developer.
      I want to be clear: *Apple is horrible.* And the fact that this game is still stuck on this service *is horrible.* But because of this echo-chamber that accomplished... Nothing... The media coverage of this game was pushed into a direction that had more to do with the platform, and the platforms holders, and not on... *The actual game.*
      Of which my original comment is congratulating this video on.

    Happy to hear that the swan song for these two legends turned out great. Both their works have shaped the genre as well as the industry. Uematsu basically defined what every rpg soundtrack should strive be. I'm just hoping that a game with this significance is only timed exclusive. Keeping this Apple Arcade exclusive would be damn shame. Really hoping for a Switch version on a year or so.

    I love the game but I’m stuck on the bird boss where you get moved back across the battlefield before getting booted off a cliff

    Is this a pay once and own the game or is it free to play with limits unless you wait or pay with real money?

      It’s available via subscription to Apple Arcade only. If you have an Apple device, I think you get a free month trial. If not, it’s $5/mo.
      Keep in mind though that there’s a part 2 coming, so if you want to wait for that later this year, I recommend subscribing around when that comes out

      Would you change your mind to know that the subscription is only $5/mo? Given that it’s a 20ish hour game, I would say $5 is well worth the price of admission!

    So the only kind of character customization is equipment? This seems the only disappointment I have with this game, as far as reviews go.

    Another great game being plaged for being exclusive to one Plattform for no reason whatsoever. I could have a hour long rant about exclusive games.
    I hope it gets released on other Plattforms besides Apple Arcade to.
    Also Apple Arcade?? Why? The amount of people playing games on Mac Books and iphones and stuff is probably so low that even with a exclusive deal by apple they wouldn't make as much money as they could when releasing in multiple Plattforms. 😑 Sorry for the rant.

      @@BacklogBattle I like how the overworld and characters look the main character reminds me kinda on Nier Automata. Combat doesn't look like it has much depth tho.
      But tbh I just watched this Video to have some background noise while working in animal crossing so I haven't really concentrated much on your video but I have seen pictures and clips here and there so I thought I take a better look.
      But its definitely something I'd try out if it wasn't exclusive to a Plattform I don't have.

      It was released on apple arcade because apple literally fronted the costs of the game, so Mistwalker already made all the money they'll make on it unless it's ported later.
      As for consumers :
      In Japan, the Iphone makes up the vast majority of smartphones in the region, and most people here game on phones more so than consoles at this point, so it's a choice that makes sense for a small Japanese company like Mistwalker.
