    Howzat my boet, so glad I found someone to help.
    I have an mk1 with a 2L ADY and with a similar problem but it does not keep on searching up&down like that but has a misfire when on normal engine temperature.... Every now and then a sudden little misfire which is very annoying but I also felt a significant drop in power. Any advice on what it could be?

      Hi bud. Any sudden jerk is usually spark related. It could be your coil distributor, leads etc. I have heard of issues of distributor caps having hairline cracks. The cracks become bigger with heat due to expansion and then cause misfire issues. I would start by inspecting the distributor cap, cleaning all the contacts and also cleaning all the associated connectors with an electrical cleaner. Remember, resistance increases with heat. Unfortunately there is no straight forward answer. Also check all the earth points. Remove the earth on the engine block and chassis as well as the battery, sand , clean and reinstall. Best of luck bud. By the way, my car has a crack on the intake above cylinder 4, hence the surging. Also check for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner or even water just as an extra, but this should not be related to your issue.

      Hi. I forgot to mention that a faulty distributor can have similar symptoms. My mk1 gti used to cut off on me and only restart a while later after properly cooling down. The distributor was swapped and the issue was resolved. Please do however do the small and inexpensive checks and methods first. Dont just throw parts at the issue as it can become expensive and not resolve the fault.

      Ey ma boet, thanx so much for the info I will definitely do those checks and yes looking at what you said about the coil and distributor cap and all that stuff makes me feel a bit better cause I think I might find the fault around there....cause when it misfires I hear a slight cracking- sparky noise from somewhere inside the engine bay when standing in front of it. Thnx so much and well talk again soon.

      @@jeankoen2392 . Great bud. Let me know what you find. You can park your car in a dark spot during the night and check for any sparks jumping in the engine bay. It could be a faulty/ damaged ht lead causing a spark to jump to the block as well.

      Oh ja one more thing, what gearbox you running? Mine still has the 1.4 Chico 5spd box in it , 5th gear the Rev counter and speedo needles basically run in sequence lol... So ja, before the issue it made 170 to 190 quite nicely but then I'm basically flat out hahaha.... Now it kaks off trying to make 160....and the other day the clutch slipped badly when I snapped from 3rd to 4th.... Its my daily to work and back by the way.

    there is a spigot, right above your spray/straw, @ 2:30. That should be routed to the crankcase, via a hose & fixture bolted to the cylinder head right across from it. At least my MkII 1.8L has it. You leave that open to atmosphere, the IAC valve cycles, or gulps like that.
    Seal it up by routing it to crankcase fumes, & it'll stabilize that idle right down. : )
    Good Luck, fun car !

      Thanks Tim. Mine does not have that there. The pcv goes to the front of the intake

    Try changing the map sensor mounted on the side of the throttle, should resolve the hunting issue. Have the same issue on my. Idle fluctuates and overfuels.

      Hi Darius. I already did that. There was no change. I will be doing a head swap and hopefully we can figure out the issue then

      @@SAKOadventures thanks for the comment. I hadvthe exact same engine prior buy ended up with some block damage and did an engine swap. The previous engine uses all the existing hanging parts and it ran fine. It runs fine when cold but statts to hunt when warm, i guess thats gotbto do with the extra fuel being injected when cold. I am going to put on the old head on this block as the old one is ported and has a 288 cam. Lets see what happens when i do the swap. Thanks again for the comment and i look forward to more engagment. 👍

      Hi. Thanks for the comment. Mine definitely isn't a vacuum pipe issue. I think that the manifold has a crack near the 4th cylinder injector. I like your supercharged setup. What power does it make

    • @builtmk1795
      @builtmk1795  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. It can be various issues but look for vacuum leaks with carb cleaner as I do in this video. Spray it over vacuum lines and over the intake and if the idle stabilises, that's where the issue is. If this does not work, then try cleaning the throttle body with cleaner and if that fails then check the map sensor on the intake.
