Julian has that effect on a lot of Elephant 6 bands (scott does too!), which makes sense because hes been making indie records since he was a teenager in the band Chocolate USA.
I disagree. No one knows who he is. I don't mean that was disrespect to him. But no, it's not true at all. I know you wanted to be because you're a big fan of his. No, it's not true at all
Saw them in Portland on this tour....when those drums kicked in it was a top 10 transcendent moment of my life...we all just went crazy at the front of the stage
The problem with a performance like this is that you know he's kind of sick of this whole thing. It feels a bit "calling it in." It's the problem with rock n roll in general. It is meant to be felt IN A MOMENT, and nostalgia is a bit of a cage. A guy like Robert Plant just keeps following his heart and going into directions that he finds interesting. While I really like NMH album, i would never go see this as it is kind of hipster-y and sad. I thought the french horn was the most interesting part of this whole thing. Best wishes to this band however.
I got the impression that some of the shows were that way while others weren't. This one sounds a little phoned in, but I saw them three times and they really seemed to be feeling it those nights. Also yeah, I realize your comment is 3 years old lol
People always call Jeff Mangum a genius but always forget about Julian Koster. Without him I think things would be a lot different.
Scott too
well i mean, sort of maybe? But i mean compare On Avery Island to the music tapes works.

People recording is the only reason for those treasured bootlegs from the years 1998 to 2003
Alok Bapatla Thieves, LOL, the record industry has brainwashed me.
1996 to 2001* you dummy
Recordings do their live shows no justice. They sound just like the album live, it's uncanny.e
well you are welcome to fuck off
Haha
@@angelirizarry2666 wtf is wrong with u
@@angelirizarry2666 I'm pretty sure it's a compliment.
Playing a banjo like a violin. Could there be anything more indie?
Yes, playing it the way he is, like a cello or double bass
Yes, but only if I’ve never heard of it.
I think you mean Could there be anything more hipster?
Playing a saw like a violin?
julian falling to his knees while playing a banjo with a bow is just a perfect encapsulation of NMH
I love that punchy guitar sound Jeff has live on this tour
(I love you) Jesus Christ that drumming is fucking incredible

Saw them in Brooklyn a few nights ago. Every bit as transformative experience as when I saw them in Austin in April of 1998. Pure glory.
thanks to the TH-cam algorithm for reminding me to finish my essay on Andrew Carnegie that’s due tonight
I saw them two days ago and they were absolutely AMAZING!
Did you see them at Merriweather?
@@enslimed Merriweather Post Pavilion
Jimmy Page would be proud, a bow used on a banjo, bingo!
voice sounds just like the recording so many years later
Excellent clip!
Are you recording me?
Got to see them in Manchester - Uk.... Brilliant
This is complete chaos... I love it

Milo Ellis I wish I could see them live

I can’t believe it’s been almost a decade since the NMH reunion tour.
How tf is Jeffs guitar not having feedback issues?
Nate David good setup?
all the amps are behind him + he has a plastic thing in the hole to stop that
Probably a noise gate
this band won a Brazilian fan!

Yup! Have fun :D
his lung capacity has lowered over the years

Deatheater459 get over it, I respect that too! But every fan would savor the moment, so it's understandable on both sides
Holy shit, what is Julian doing during part 3?
Making terrible noises with something in a good way
Why must he play every song so damn fast live? Feels like he just wants it to be over. 😞
