Hey everyone! I just wanted to correct myself!
In the video I said dates have more protein per calorie than many other fruits, but what I meant to say was PER GRAM!

One tip everyone needs to know before eating a date. Cut/open lengthwise, remove pit, and INSPECT the inside. Some dates have an ant/small insect inside. Make sure to clean the inside before eating the date. Also, Sukkary means 'sugary;' this is the name of that specific kind because it's so sweet (as if date isn't sweet as is lol).

Except for granola needs to be cooked longer than most know in order for it not to be hard to digest. And if you do not get the organic oatmeal, you only get round up in your oatmeal... Which is very unhealthy. Organic oats have less round up spray.. Rinse before cooking and cook one hour.

Dis-sease is caused by acidic foods causing mucus and blockages. Fruits are easy to digest and alkalinizing to the body. However diabetics often need to be treated with fasting before fruiting so that basic systems can begin to recover.
Think of fasting like a cast for a broken bone, only after the bone is set can gentle excercise (eating a fresh fruit diet help)
This all can often trigger detox.
The path back to true health is a journey and not always fun. But oh wow it is worth it.

I have eaten chocolate pretty much every day of my life, I love it. This has had to come to a screeching halt after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes (surprise surprise). I have turned to these sweet little poop shape morsels to satisfy my sugar craving. I have found they do not have any affect on my blood sugars, now the only problem I have is stopping myself from eating too many. I eat 5 as my mid morning snack and a few more as my dessert after dinner - and no, they are not affecting my toileting frequency or urgency. If only I had been given dates as a treat when I was child instead of my beloved chocky.

Never ate dates until I started eating plant based. They are so delicious. I can't convince my adult kids to eat them yet they eat sugary stuff and candy. Like you mentioned its like natures candy.
Love dates in salads as mentioned! One of the local burger(plant based) joints serves an arugula salad with dates. Its so tasty.
Thanks for such an informative vid! Keep them coming. This one was awesome!

I have a crazy sweet tooth, and when I first embarked on a wfpb diet dates were like candy to me! I actually was raised in a Muslim home and never used to eat them when I broke my fast cause they looked disgusting lol. Nowadays I'd be hard pressed to go a full week without a couple medjool dates. Definitely a must for vegan desserts.

Ah, Derek, I've been really enjoying your videos and have just subscribed, but... I'm not happy with this one. My main complaint is that you must know the difference between glycemic index (a theoretical construct) and glycemic load (which is more reflective of the amount of carb actually consumed in a serving). Dates have a GL score of 18, which is moderately high, compared for example to oranges and watermelon, which are both at 4. And the fact that there are 60 to 70 calories in one medjool date is a negative thing for anybody who struggles with obesity. Kind of like almonds, they are a highly nutritious food that, for those of us who aren't lean and fit, do need to be somewhat restricted because of their caloric density. But no question, they are an awesome substitute for sugar in smoothies, sauces, and even in baking! (I have an awesome recipe for black bean brownies that uses dates for the sweetener, and per brownie there are 4 grams each of protein and fibre... but 100 calories, too.) BTW, my favourite way of eating dates is to dip them in tahini -- I like the bitter and the sweet together.

Anyway you will not gain weight eating dates. If anything you will lose weight.

I had to check if this video came out on April 1st.. the first half is all good.. but then things get weird when you combine dates with celery, lettuce and cucumber.
There's one thing I think you should have mentioned though. Date production uses gases instead of pesticide. The downside is that the more commonly used one destroys the ozone layer. The organic gas is CO2 and we know what that does to our climate.

I got some fresh/hard dates from Santa Monica farmers' market a few years ago. The vendor told me the fresh/hard dates would become soft and eatable in about 2 weeks. I brought the "branches* with dates on them home and waited about 18 days before the dates ripened and became the soft sweet dates like the ones I generally got in the store.
