Because Kishimoto(the creator of Naruto)made the design for Lars in T6 so he wanted Bandai to add him UNS2 as a reward,but with more ninja style looking.Its easy to make combos with him there,and you can combine some moves to to deal a lot of damage.
Ironically Lars is one of the characters I found the hardest to get into. Same with Lili who's also supposed to be a "pick up and play" character. Jin clicked with me
Yeah everybody talks about how difficult Jin and Lee are and I may not be great at them still working on multiple B2 loops I can only do two and I only recently got into Jin so I can't do electrics but otherwise these two characters were exactly what I wanted
He was my first main I ever use. I can't forget how much fun I had with him, and he's still one of my main, even though I rarely use him now. P.S: I manly used him because his stance reminded me of Goku's😅.

This is the only Tekken where I actually like using Lars. Its not because he's top tier or anything, the customization in this game helps him not look like a stupid Yu-Gi-Oh! character with a cape.
yeah but its much more shittier . its 15 frames but you have to crouch , if we add your brain lag to it with crouching animation its more than 20 frames and most other characters have safe counter hit launchers or safe better mid launchers .

It's embarrassing to say, but Lars is the reason I got into Tekken. Some friends brought Tekken 6 to college once and I was drawn to Lars because of the easy buttons and the Goku hairstyle. From there I learned about the Mishima story from TMM and I never looked back.
LaserGuidedBomb nonetheless he could have easily had his original suit as another default or in customisation. I’d have complained at even a DLC Tekken Force suit but I’d have still bought it.

Defo can feel your pain in regards to Lars' lack of Swedishness. DOA6 introduced a Finnish character who turned out just to be a loli with electric blue hair. Speaking of DOA, Marie Rose was even less identifiably Swedish as Lars.
There's a lot more reasons as to why Lars is bad in Tekken 7. Basically, he has all the problems he had in previous games (risky lows, VERY vulnerable to ssr, no frame traps), he carried them over to T7, and then got hit with the nerf hammer. Namco saw what was wrong with lars and did two things: They made ws2,1 +3 instead of +2 on hit (meaning that if you punish something with ws2,1 and you do a df1 afterwards, it doesn't trade with ws4 like it did in season 1, and you'd lose the trade), and they also added DE3, which got nerfed in season 2 because of the wallbounce introduction which is mostly garbage. DE3 into b1 was uninterruptible before they made it a wallbounce and changed its plus frames. But that's what he needs: Either: moves that leave him + on block, or, if you actually hit a string/ a fucking ws punisher, don't make him trade with a ws4 and lose in the end. Also the automatic transition into his stances is a completely unnecessary change that hurts the character, even if they made it so that you can cancel the transition by holding back in season 2. Like, was it supposed to help new players pick him up? Was holding D after f1,2,3 that hard? He also suffered indirectly because of the wall dmg boost everyone received. As TMM said, when you got wall combo'd by lars in previous games it stood out, pretty much nobody had that much damage at the wall. Now most characters deal high dmg at the wall (sometimes higher than Lars). The bound system also was pretty much *made* for him, as he was considered the main protagonist. The screw system in T7 doesn't benefit him as much. Still my main, and as you said, it does feel very satisfying winning with him in T7. Still a competitive character, just takes a lot of work to play him at a high level.

I've been playing Lars since his introduction for and it's really disappointing how many useless moves he has that haven't been tweaked since its introduction. ff 3+4 is launch punishable and is only +1 on hit with no reward on counter. D2 is okay, but seriously it's only 0 on block d/f 33 useless f+4 string is useless now. I mean the list goes on and on. There really is really no point of using more than 15 or so moves of lars it's really kind annoying because his move list is already pretty small
The screw system suits him better IMO. He has better ways to carry to the wall and his fb21 is a high dmg easy mode 14f mid launcher with good range. But obviously some things took a hit like CH ff1+2.
I am a certified Lars main since tekken 6 br was released. Lars is really a strong character back then. Up until now I still main him. No matter how the devs nerfed him, Im still comfortable of using him in every battle.
As far as I know, he's got the mishima-esque mixup from wavu wavu, strong standing punishment, high combo damage even without walls, a 13f poke, a slide, a magic 4 and shit ton of force crouch moves

i dont why ppl hate lars. it's literally is the best character in tekken 6 and ppl call him b class. they say its hard to play. he has the easiest and best combos. pretty decent damage too. very nice wall travel. HE IS THE BEST CHARCTER TO PLAY WITH HIS COMBO STARTS ARE VERY FAST TOO YOU CAN APPLY THOSE COMBOS ANYTIME AND ONCE HE STARTS HE JUST DRAG THEM TO THE WALL. HE IS THE BEST
Lars being half Japanese is good enough for them let him stay with his Japanese VA, Junichi Suwabe is a pretty popular Japanese VA atm so I dont think they will switch to a Swedish VA anytime soon.
Two more things: First, d/f+1 as a mid poke, had awesome properties. Comes out at i13, only -1 on block but +5 on hit, and crushes high jabs. Second, his sidestep was one of the best in the game.
I remember an interview with Caiper (Lars/Feng) back in TTT2 begining of T7, and he said that on high competitive level, you couldn't see one single Lars. That he did not understand why Namco made him so weak for T7 when he obviously is not a top tier. I kinda agree that Namco heard the cries from noobie-boobies rather than the actual results on tournaments like EVO or that sort.

TMM has to understand that overall character difficulty shouldn't have a huge impact on how good the character's tools are. Of course execution stuff should be rewarding (and doing an EWGF surely has huge rewards, whether it's on hit or block) but the standard stuff shouldn't suffer because of it. TMM's perception of optimal balancing would ruin fighting games.
I don't think he's wrong at all. I think the easier a character is, the less damage output they should have. That should be the trade-off for the easiness. The character should not be easy yet hit like a truck. To me that is bad balancing. If anything, ignoring this is why people don't play fighting games. Too much initial reward gives them the wrong impression, so they quit when things get difficult. I think it's wrong to expect a lot of execution out of a player but yet to not reward that. Makes me not even want to play the game.
@@manrightchea The character should hit like a truck because it's smart from a balancing perspective to give him big damage. Maybe he is a big character (Marduk) who rarely gets to launch people so to make up for that you increase his damage output. Maybe it's a character that gets to launch you often (Josie) so you decrease her damage output. Execution heavy combos should just increase combo damage but the overall difficulty of the character shouldn't. Do you even think about how such a game would be?

That's the balancing of modern fighting games meant to appeal to unskilled casuals. That should never happen. Skilled characters that require execution should have higher damage/higher potential then characters that don't require that. Defeats the purpose of there even being difficult characters otherwise.

Thinking long term, it would eliminate a majority of the cast from viability as people learn the execution heavy stuff. Characters always have and always will do damage and will have the range appropriate to their actual fighting style - and not how difficult they are. That's why Devil Jin barely gets over 60 damage. That's why Marduk easily gets 70+ damage without walls. Peculiar tools with outstanding abilities like the EWGF should have some kind of barrier, but the EWGF execution barrier isn't really high. Most red ranks can't deal with EWGF spam, whether it's on block, at the wall or even just out in the open. The fact that you don't even tell any arguments for your position tells me how little thought you spent before writing this comment. You just told me how you think balancing SHOULD be done, but luckily people who actually understand balancing and people who have learned from mistakes in over 20 years of experience balance and design this game, and not someone like you.
@@Luminethereploid You put it better than I ever could. Jin's overall gameplan isn't particularly hard either; you can do perfectly fine by spamming strings, ZEN stance mixups and ff2 for wallsplat. Db4 is borderline braindead as well. But Jin for sure has difficult aspects, don't get me wrong. And as you said, by buffing a character, you inevitably make that character easier to play and more effective. Just look at DJ who is considered the easiest Mishima because of u4 and his "braindead" mixup. If either uf4 or hellsweep wasn't as strong, he would be much more difficult. In the end, the difficulty of a fighting game isn't execution (good execution basically is a solid flowchart you do for a move, e.g. JF cd2 for EWGF) but rather having good defense and offense by using movement, mixups and guessing correctly.

I remember punishing my friends at Tekken 6 with his Magentic Knee that only required to hold the button down to break their neck instead of being a counter hit.

I thought Lars was a cool character when I first noticed him. His moves were cool. Also that red and black outfit just screamed bad@$$. But I guess I was always a fan of those two colors being used together. Maybe it's because characters like the Akatsuki, Shadow the Hedgehog, and the Pride Troopers are associated with them... 🤔🤔🤔
Interesting to come back and watch this after the season 3 patch of T7. I admit that I'm surprised to hear that you actually like the character given the subscriber gifs that you post, however, I do agree with you from a character design standpoint. I love his fighting style overall given the flair but I do wish that Namco would fix that hair as well as allow him to speak Swedish in some capacity. I mean given his background as a military professional and his nationality I figured that he should speak multiple languages. Anyway, thankfully he received some much-needed buffs with the recent patch I hope it places him in a spot where he's viable but still requires work.
Tag2 lars removes uf4 bound but replaces it with d2 and SE df1 bound. Can't complain plus the SE df1 in tag2 re splat the opponent in the ground after the bound (if you don't do a tag assault or if lars will do the final hit of the combo) and if they try to roll back db 2,1 can pick them up and re juggle the opponent.
he didnt even mention how much longer b1's range was in this game. also archblast's range getting nerfed 2 games in a row is pretty insane... things that would get punnished in older games by archlast whiff now
What are some things that would get punished in older games by arc blast, but whiff now? I went back to t6, ttt2 and compared to t7 and found pretty much no difference.
This is not what make him strong and easy, it was tons of hitbox issues, build in not formal homing ability, same wall combos on any character size, wiff healing was ridiculously fast, animations took him 5 km forward, tons of crash move and what the video maker said just above it. Tekken 6 and Tekken Tag 2 lars should be enough to put Harada behind bars.

You also forgot mention that when Lars counter hit game is trash. Characters like Jin get a counter hit from a kick while Lars has to use risky lows.

I am a certified Lars main since tekken 6 br was released. Lars is really a strong character back then. Up until now I still main him. No matter how the devs nerfed him, Im still comfortable of using him in every battle.

As far as I know, he's got the mishima-esque mixup from wavu wavu, strong standing punishment, high combo damage even without walls, a 13f poke, a slide, a magic 4 and shit ton of force crouch moves

i dont why ppl hate lars. it's literally is the best character in tekken 6 and ppl call him b class. they say its hard to play. he has the easiest and best combos. pretty decent damage too. very nice wall travel. HE IS THE BEST CHARCTER TO PLAY WITH HIS COMBO STARTS ARE VERY FAST TOO YOU CAN APPLY THOSE COMBOS ANYTIME AND ONCE HE STARTS HE JUST DRAG THEM TO THE WALL. HE IS THE BEST
Lars being half Japanese is good enough for them let him stay with his Japanese VA, Junichi Suwabe is a pretty popular Japanese VA atm so I dont think they will switch to a Swedish VA anytime soon.
Two more things: First, d/f+1 as a mid poke, had awesome properties. Comes out at i13, only -1 on block but +5 on hit, and crushes high jabs. Second, his sidestep was one of the best in the game.
his df1 still has those properties in t7, but its inconsistent at evading jabs in all games
I remember beating a kid that mained Lars using Hwoarang, it felt really good.
I remember an interview with Caiper (Lars/Feng) back in TTT2 begining of T7, and he said that on high competitive level, you couldn't see one single Lars. That he did not understand why Namco made him so weak for T7 when he obviously is not a top tier. I kinda agree that Namco heard the cries from noobie-boobies rather than the actual results on tournaments like EVO or that sort.

Tekken 7 is the first game I learned. I spammed buttons in all other Tekkens. So I just mashed buttons with Tekken 6 Lars and he did amazing things.

and the damage is still good on counter hit and it has an improved range now so i’d say a good substitute for his old df2

TMM has to understand that overall character difficulty shouldn't have a huge impact on how good the character's tools are. Of course execution stuff should be rewarding (and doing an EWGF surely has huge rewards, whether it's on hit or block) but the standard stuff shouldn't suffer because of it. TMM's perception of optimal balancing would ruin fighting games.
I don't think he's wrong at all. I think the easier a character is, the less damage output they should have. That should be the trade-off for the easiness. The character should not be easy yet hit like a truck.
To me that is bad balancing. If anything, ignoring this is why people don't play fighting games. Too much initial reward gives them the wrong impression, so they quit when things get difficult.
I think it's wrong to expect a lot of execution out of a player but yet to not reward that. Makes me not even want to play the game.
@@manrightchea The character should hit like a truck because it's smart from a balancing perspective to give him big damage. Maybe he is a big character (Marduk) who rarely gets to launch people so to make up for that you increase his damage output. Maybe it's a character that gets to launch you often (Josie) so you decrease her damage output. Execution heavy combos should just increase combo damage but the overall difficulty of the character shouldn't. Do you even think about how such a game would be?
@@dylank6191 Don't ask me stupid questions. Easy characters should never do a lot of damage, that's the opposite of good balancing. That's the balancing of modern fighting games meant to appeal to unskilled casuals. That should never happen. Skilled characters that require execution should have higher damage/higher potential then characters that don't require that. Defeats the purpose of there even being difficult characters otherwise.
@@manrightchea I have to ask this question because you don't seem to think your balancing conception to the end. Thinking long term, it would eliminate a majority of the cast from viability as people learn the execution heavy stuff. Characters always have and always will do damage and will have the range appropriate to their actual fighting style - and not how difficult they are. That's why Devil Jin barely gets over 60 damage. That's why Marduk easily gets 70+ damage without walls. Peculiar tools with outstanding abilities like the EWGF should have some kind of barrier, but the EWGF execution barrier isn't really high. Most red ranks can't deal with EWGF spam, whether it's on block, at the wall or even just out in the open. The fact that you don't even tell any arguments for your position tells me how little thought you spent before writing this comment. You just told me how you think balancing SHOULD be done, but luckily people who actually understand balancing and people who have learned from mistakes in over 20 years of experience balance and design this game, and not someone like you.
@@Luminethereploid You put it better than I ever could. Jin's overall gameplan isn't particularly hard either; you can do perfectly fine by spamming strings, ZEN stance mixups and ff2 for wallsplat. Db4 is borderline braindead as well. But Jin for sure has difficult aspects, don't get me wrong. And as you said, by buffing a character, you inevitably make that character easier to play and more effective. Just look at DJ who is considered the easiest Mishima because of u4 and his "braindead" mixup. If either uf4 or hellsweep wasn't as strong, he would be much more difficult. In the end, the difficulty of a fighting game isn't execution (good execution basically is a solid flowchart you do for a move, e.g. JF cd2 for EWGF) but rather having good defense and offense by using movement, mixups and guessing correctly.

One thing that you forgot to mention is that Lars in Silent Entry is weak to SSL. In fact, all of this moves are weak to SSL in Silent Entry.

@@tippingguy8514 Yeah it is way to risky to use them against good opponents. The only moves that reliably hit are the lows but even those are too risky. Silent entry does make combos look cool though.

I thought Lars was a cool character when I first noticed him. His moves were cool. Also that red and black outfit just screamed bad@$$. But I guess I was always a fan of those two colors being used together. Maybe it's because characters like the Akatsuki, Shadow the Hedgehog, and the Pride Troopers are associated with them... 🤔🤔🤔

Interesting to come back and watch this after the season 3 patch of T7. I admit that I'm surprised to hear that you actually like the character given the subscriber gifs that you post, however, I do agree with you from a character design standpoint. I love his fighting style overall given the flair but I do wish that Namco would fix that hair as well as allow him to speak Swedish in some capacity. I mean given his background as a military professional and his nationality I figured that he should speak multiple languages.
Anyway, thankfully he received some much-needed buffs with the recent patch I hope it places him in a spot where he's viable but still requires work.
Lars hair is that way because he's a half Mishima. So only half his hair stands up.

Tag2 lars removes uf4 bound but replaces it with d2 and SE df1 bound. Can't complain plus the SE df1 in tag2 re splat the opponent in the ground after the bound (if you don't do a tag assault or if lars will do the final hit of the combo) and if they try to roll back db 2,1 can pick them up and re juggle the opponent.

f1+2 launcher range is better in t6 it sucks the opponent. also, the uf3 range was sooooo good.
he didnt even mention how much longer b1's range was in this game. also archblast's range getting nerfed 2 games in a row is pretty insane... things that would get punnished in older games by archlast whiff now

This is not what make him strong and easy, it was tons of hitbox issues, build in not formal homing ability, same wall combos on any character size, wiff healing was ridiculously fast, animations took him 5 km forward, tons of crash move and what the video maker said just above it. Tekken 6 and Tekken Tag 2 lars should be enough to put Harada behind bars.
