Been really enjoying your videos the last few weeks, I love the focus on martial arts manga! One piece of input - I understand why you do the panning/zooming movement across images, but it's a bit chaotic with all the movement and makes it difficult to appreciate the pages as a whole. I'm excited for more content in the future!

If anyone is curious in how to pronounce "Batouque". You gotta pronounce each syllable instead of prouncing it "batook" Ba-Tou-Que
the "tou" is pronounced the way you prounce the "to" in "together" and the que is the similar to how you would say the "ke" in "key
Im Brazilian and I love that my national and culturaly rich martial art is so beloved in Japan. Thanks for the video dude.

Of course it is! The Gracie borrowed the jiujitsu from the japanese people and adapted it. But nowdays, the best grappler is american (Gordon Ryan) top brazilians nowdays are Mica Galvao and Baby Shark in my opinion.

I recently got out of a wheelchair and have been continuing developing my own martial art. I was always more of a grappler than a striker, from standing at least. Now that my disabilities have limited me to only certain grappling moves, I've combined many elements of Shuai Jiao, Chin Na (Chinese Joint locking), and a small amount of Japanese Jujutsu as well as some Wrestling. I feel that I've finally reached a point where I can properly teach others and have been teaching others and hope to teach a class of my own one day, or at least write a book where the characters use the style I've developed since I'm also a writer and if that doesn't work I will just have to hire an artist to make a comic out of it, but it's my dream to teach martial arts for the purpose of self-defense as well as personal growth through training.
I don't really have a fancy name for it, I just call it Self-Defense Grappling. (S.D.G.) The main struggle will be getting students who are willing to learn from a 32-year-old who walks with a cane even though I can teach without one. I've trained in seven other martial arts both striking and grappling, but I've condensed what works for me and what is effective as well as something not too difficult to grasp, which I feel are two very important things when it comes to self-defense: Keeping it simple and making it effective. It's the culmination of all the struggles I've been through so far and I'm never giving up now that I have the chance to make it a reality again! In a way it's my own martial arts journey and my Berserk-esque struggles rolled together, I guess. Anyway, wish me luck, guys!

I have found it extremely easy to empathize with disabled people in wheelchairs but I wondered if Inoue was able to nail down the mentality of such a person, or was he idealizing it in one way or the other.

"Batuque" is a spang word for "Macumba" here in Brazil. Basically an offshoot of voodoo mixed with Catholic saint worship.

@@nearlyrighteouslad3213 well, it really depends. Especially because brazil is so big, every region has its own marks of culture, pronunciation and obviously, how they use words. However, i've heard "batuque" MUCH more as the beating of a rythm than some ritual thing. And i also think the rythm is much more adequately situated here, no?

    • @Ahabbbb
      @Ahabbbb 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Valeu, mano.

First, I want to say your videos are absolute bangers, no one makes reviews on underrated series like these
Now about Batuque, I hate it.
The mangaka also made Usogui (which you should definitely make a video on) which is an absolute phenomenal manga but batuque in comparison is terrible for a couple of reasons
    - The art can be good at times but the faces are so unpleasant to look at, it's like they took the worst part of usogui art and implemented it without any improvement
    - If you've read Usogui, Batuque is quite mid in comparison
    - Usogui ended on a massive cliffhanger and the fact that the mangaka worked on this instead of the sequel leaves a sour taste (although I'm also aware that artists do something completely different to wind down from their previous work and possibly improve their skillset)
I gave it a far go but man I just didn't like it. What I do like are your videos, hope to see you make more (some suggestions are Tomodachi Game, Usogui and God of highschool which are all finished)
Also please increase your mic volume it's extremely quiet

      @@lennon-x-almeida9485 that makes zero sense.
"Hanebado is the Berzerk of Sports Manga"
This implies hanebado is similarly dark, similarly cruel, gritty and intense. The concept is what is being compared. This is English.
Batuque is the opposite of gritty. It's intense, but nowhere close to being gore heavy or as hopeless. It's living art through martial art. It's evolving philosophy of capoiera as a lifestyle and as a path of survival.
It is not, whatever Berzerk qualifies as.

@championboy4782 i still think he was comparing the art style and just didn't phrase it right. People make mistakes. It's too obvious that the story isn't similar to berserk (it's an S not a Z), so there's no reason for a guy as smart as him to miss out on the big detail. So he missed the small detail.

@tdotson76 yeah, idk what else it would be. Maybe the way the author draws women is similar, but worse than Miura's artstyle? In any case it seems very exagerated. But i can see what he means, a little bit.
