it is a good idea. everything getting worse and worse. future will be very dangerous. because I think in the future civilians can hold big protests against the government. If so, the situation will be worse.
As a Sri Lankan, I'm very thanking you for coming to Sri Lanka and bringing so many awesome videos about Sri Lanka. We are so worried about tourists because this is our fault.
I am local and a remote worker, experiencing big trouble with power cuts. Recently bought a power tank for my internet router, which lasts about 4-5 hrs.
Hey Ken. Great video. Yes we first encountered power cuts in Hikkaduwa. First day was difficult, but we found every area has a power cut program. The program has worst case times, and so far has not exceeded them. Many times not full allocation. In Hikka, we adjusted our timetable to do activity when power is off. Like motorbike ride, swim or walk. Most restaurants have gas, so you can get food. Experienced places will have ice for drinks. Only difficulty is when you want A/C in the hot time of the day. We have adjusted, my wife and I are 59, from Australia so we make do with what we have. Tchuss.
Good to know it's working out for you. Do you know where you can get a link of the schedule and get updates of the Powercuts? Planning to be there in 3 weeks. Thanks.
The problem in Sri Lanka is more widespread Mainly it's a combination of high foreign debt crisis , shortage of products due to the lockdowns and oil prices rising The good thing is foreign tourism is bringing currency into the country and that helps somewhat However the government has to decide on whether to pay for food, oil, medicines or pay the debt That's why they are in talks with IMF
Keep praying and paying for medicine, food, oil and pay off debt taken by them with their own pockets as non of the 80% majority of common society approved or used that much of debt at all to uplift the standard of living for nearly 10 - 15 years now. Where did that all debt money go ? What are the 20% of richest, highest class possess as assets in this country and how much of it are going towards to pay off the debt is the question throughout the past 15 years ??? .
foreign debt crisis? Do you mean Sri Lanka doesn't have dollars because they paid back loans??? where did this idea come from? your local politician? Sri Lanka did not pay a penny back to any lenders!! this crisis is due to poor planning and money management! Sri Lanka is a population with a bunch of lazy people who don't pay proper income tax! always look at the government for free goodies!! Sri Lanka's debt : Market borrowings- 39%, Asian development bank(japan) - 14%, Government of Japan - 12%, World bank - 11%, Government of China - 10%, Government of India - 3%, Other - 11% .
@@waynenathan2608 locals paying high taxes for the loans they didn't take and where did all those loans really go and who can show the accounts of each loan project taken - auditors ?
@@waynenathan2608 Sri Lanka isn't a bunch of lazy people and they aren't the ones - locals who took loans. Local politicians - who are they actually ? Do the hard working people here get the proper wages here aren't the ones hardly working get the super wages with benefits or other facilities. Are the ones who are suffering, facing hardships, low incomers lazy, hardly working ones waiting for hand outs from the government ??? Are all heads of all sectors hard working educated professionally qualified ?? From the mother's womb one have to pay to be born and then onwards parents pay for everything of that child up until that child starts earning and ones that child draw the first income out of it 8% gets cut off by whatever sources under whatever name, how right is that ? Parents work and had to nurish themselves in order to bring forth child, then they keep working to provide for the needs of that child until the time that child is able to earn living and some source that never funded at all claims something out if it - how come ? Do the Asians get a dole or a helping hand sum for children till they are 18 ? Is everything half priced for retired working sector in Asia ? Do the workers get the same wages or salary scales equal to western systems ? Please Sri Lankans aren't all educated to be professionally qualified and all aren't disciplined but they aren't lazy bunch, they work hard in what they know of and they share whatever they have with others and they were suppose to look after their elders without dumping them to the home for the ages and they had a simple lifestyle though it wasn't luxury bought by or for credit and they had super high moral values though it's gone to dogs level now a days without the fear of GOD ALMIGHTY JESUS. Sri Lankans doesn't have the privileges that the west have and though underprivileged we had the hearts look after ones who couldn't make it to home during the lockdown which says we are rich in hospitality and we are stationed in a super spot in the world map and have many natural GOD given treasures in this island where all types of crows been flying over it to take over from the ancient days by getting hold of foolish ignorant ones. By the way this country's economy came up mostly by the foreign currency earned by the hard working local workers working abroad not through any politics which most here doesn't know much of it but knows very well the outcome of it - blood shed, riots, clashes between races, religions and dream walking or building castles with credit or borrowed currency. No offence brother. Value humanity, honesty, truth, justice. Without the fear of GOD no wisdom understanding knowledge. GOD said to Pharaoh through Moses, set my people free from Egypt.
We need the support of you guys who doing a great service for the tourism of the country during this current difficult situation brother. You can move to colombo where there are only night time power cuts like for an hour or for 2 hours only. We know you are a kind man from all the vlogs you posted so if you can stay for your full visa valid, it will be a great help & support to the locals brother!
Hi Ken, I am Sri Lankan living in Stuttgart currently. First, we should appreciate your visit to Sri Lanka and helping our economy directly and promoting our country in a positive way to the world 🫂 . Secondly, It is very sad that you are leaving the country because I enjoyed your videos all the time while I am having my dinner. However we understand your situation, sorry that we fail to provide you what you need 😥. Third, the current economic crisis is a result of a corruptive and stupid political decisions which have being doing for years now 😠. Fourth, Please come back again, it is a beautiful country with beautiful people most of them are very humble and friendly like you🥰 . Wish you good luck. ❤
Your politicians should learn from India on how to make a country get out of economic crisis. We faced similar situation in 1993 but now look we have 650 billion forex reserve. All because of correct decisions taken at that time. We are donating wheat to Afghanistan, donating vaccines and even giving money to your country in billions. Still your govt. support China whose debt trap caused this.
I'm so sorry that the situation in this country has brought you to this point. Sad to say that this is fully the fault of an inept and corrupt government thinking that they know it all. And, unfortunately we are all paying the price. As much as we don't want you to leave, I think that may be the best for you. Please do visit sometime later in the future, but for now it's hard to say when this will all pass over. Thanks for your amazing series, which I've enjoyed on the regular. Safe travels!
@@salbepaesh6870 But he is helping bring attention to the tourism there, the only hope sri lanka has to prosper without the crap government not doing anything.
I hope situation gets better. But I have a question. Why don't you hold your governments accountable for that. I can see this building up from last 5-6 years, government borrowing heavily from China to construct projects which has no return on investment. (Hambantota port for example) And there are many such projects. Why did Sri Lankan people let that happen ? (Because ultimately people are electing the governments.) Note: I am not trying to accuse you people of anything. But I genuinely want to understand this.
We are having so many problems in Sri Lanka at the moment. Its sad to see people like you leave the country. We enjoy your humble opinions about the Sri Lanka. But understand how you feel. Its hard for everybody. Thank you so much for promoting Sri Lanka. Wish you good luck for your future travels.bye
2:24 Small suggestion. Power cuts timing is not same for whole country. Some areas specially centre of Colombo gets only 1-2h power cut per day. So I suggest, until things get solved with this energy crisis, move to such a area with lesser power cut time which you haven't covered already or to a tourist hotel as you said. (Obviously if this power crisis won't be fixed soon, then no choice, suggesting with hope they will find a solution).
One of the most Positive , Humble and kind Travel Vloggers ever visited Sri Lanka. Power cuts will stop soon. Please stay for your full visa validity period. We all are fully dissapointed with the situation. But trying to stay positive.
Im a proud Sri Lankan not a tourist even Im thinking about leaving my beautiful motherland due to some durty politics doing by these cheap politicians. Sorry for the inconvenience Ken and all visitors ! 😞
I have lived in Sri Lanka for 40 years. I have never seen the country in such a sad and hopeless situation 😢😢😢 I think your vlog today is very important... because too many just seem to get used to a gradual worsening decline. And although there are places with less or no power cuts, I don't know if it is practical for you to travel according to that 'electricity map'. I love Sri Lanka but I wonder how this will continue...
//for 40 years. I have never seen the country in such a sad and hopeless situation// This is not a fair statement. We have had worst situation in 1989, 90 when terror groups enforced full night power cuts for weeks and killing each other in whole country and from 1983 to 2009 when terrorist blasting huge bombs everywhere time to time.
@@chlfilms I was here right along. And we were personally affected by it, but survived the attack. I do not want to go on re details. But with every challenge we learnt to adapt. But this is a very different situation. I hope you too may realize the difference. If not you will surely feel it soon
Hi Ken, I just returned 2 days ago from Sri Lanka, we heard from locals that usually powerplants make electricity from water (waterfalls) and as it hasn´t rained enough few months, they have to buy diesel instead (of course there are also other features as lack of foreign currencies), but it should improve with rain season a bit. We didn´t feel much affected by power cuts, but we were on holidays, so essential needs could have been planned, cuts are all over the country, different times, different lenghts, quees for diesel everywhere, some stations closed completely, some opened only for petrol 92/95, in those 3 weeks price went up like 3times..hard times mainly for locals..
Best time to visit upcountry. No AC required. About 5-20 centigrade area. Nuwareliya, Nawalapitiya, Ohiya, Pattipola, Hortonplains, Haputhale, Riverston, Gampola, Hatton, Maskeliya, Nortonbridg, Norwood, Hawaeliya, Seethaeliya, MoonPlains, knuckles, liversleap waterfall, Devon waterfall, Baburu waterfall, Gartmor, St Claire waterfall, Diyaluma waterfall. This is for, who is wishes to come Sri Lanka
Please ask your hotel or any local around there "what time is tomorrow s power cut" They should know. Please stay and continue your great work. Hopefully, you will able to organise your work during power cuts. It could be challenging, think it is as something in your bucket list. Good luck.
It is really sad to see you are having such a difficult time in Sri Lanka. Most likely the issue will continue for few weeks. My suggestion is for you to stay in a local home (rent a room). For sure locals will takecare of your food supply and they will be able to alert you about power cut time table. So can avoid some dificulties. Ask villagers help for creating new videos about their life style. For example, film how they cook, how they work in farm (may be in paddy fields (this is harvesting season though), go to real ayurvedic treatment place (No I am Not talking about Spa) and capture some videos). Reply if you need more info, i will try to help you throgh my contacts in Negambo and Kurunegala. Thanks the all time humble youtuber for visiting Sri Lanka in this difficult time.
@@chajeesiri3981 I am trying to suggest what Ken can do to make his stay effective. If I were you I would use different platform to chat about politics.
Vielen dank Ken! The super prompt response is much appreciated, and assuring that there are still ways to visit this beautiful destination and hopefully (somehow) alleviate the economic burden by contributing through tourism.
Feel for you. Power cuts (OR Blackouts / Brownouts as they are called in Asia and UK) are a pain and very inconvenient. Have experienced them in parts of Asia like The Philippines, and even Thailand, although usually only for fairly short periods of time. We even had regular power cuts in the UK in the early 1970s when the coal miners went on strike ! If you only have less than one month on your Sri Lanka visa I would be tempted to stick it out in Sri Lanka until your visa has expired. Good luck ! 👍
Hey man how stay without power.every tourist cant tolorate this.one or two days ok but this is going endlessly.now uk and phillpines power cut not happening like this.
I have my holiday in Sri Lanka starting in 3 weeks time! I hope it gets better soon, as I don't want to cancel. Any update on what's happening would be good. The comments of the followers are really useful.
I will only get worse. Power cut duration got reduced from 7 hrs to 4 hrs these days because the government paid for a fuel ship like 2 weeks ago and the power plants received fuel. But when the current stocks run out it'll be the same.
@@nomaksy Wrong?... Are you listening what Ken said and see how the situation in Sri Lanka is? Open your eyes because the whole country is struggling right now.
Hey Ken, it can be very frustrating, i live in South Africa and we also have power cuts, its called "load shedding" here, government implements it at a moments notice so we never really know when its going to happen, what times and how long :-) Im glad to see that you at least have a positive attitude and adapt to the situation as much as possible, that is what travel in other countries is all about.....adapt & enjoy :-) stay safe and keep doing what you do.
There are so many areas in Colombo where there are NO power cuts.. because Govt officials or other big wigs are living in those areas. We live in Colombo and our mother is a bed patient with vocal cord paralysis and NO skull bone and fed through a stomach tube but we have to bear with 13 hour power cuts.. while others with no issues have uninterrupted power. Where is the justice and equality. So many cannot afford food. There is no gas and even if there is - the prices have doubled and triples but what this damn Govt does not realize is that people's incomes do not double/triple, so how can they afford to live. There are water cuts but all the Govt officials live comfortably with tax payers money paying for their comforts and security. This is ridiculous and Gotabaya and his family need to step down. This is a disgrace to the World that Sri Lanka is in this disastrous situation. One cannot blame people for taking to the streets, what are the choices they have. They have appealed and appealed and NOTHING is been done. Milk powder was increased by 100 - 200%.. There is no control of anything. Prices are increased at their whim and fancy. People are been hit from all sides - gas, food, water, electricity, medicines, transport... where does it end???!! This is a crime against humanity. While they fill their pockets and fatten their retirement funds, people across the Country suffer.
Hi bro! It’s totally up to you to decide since you’re the one facing such situations! But if you really want to stay here you got one option left which is to find a guest house or a hotel near a hospital which are powered with same electricity grid. Those areas have uninterrupted powers supply because of the hospital.😉 so first find a general hospital or a base hospital in the areas you wish to stay & then look for accommodation near that🥴
Really sorry to see you leave you were one of the most humble and my fovourite you-tuber ever to visit Sri lanaka. Thank you for sharing the beauty of my country with the world. So sorry for the current situation.I hope this situation will be resolved soon. That opportunity will come soon. Looking forward to your return.
Me and my travelling companion are currently in Sri Lanka. Partly thanks to you! We've travelled throughout and are now in Mirissa, spending our last few weeks before heading home. We've followed you, Ken, since before we arrived. We have previously travelled throughout southeast Asia, India, Africa and the Americas and although we are not vloggers, we have experienced multiple power cuts in almost every country we have visited. It hasn't stopped us! We have experienced blocks on currency exchange and countless issues that have ultimately enriched our global travel experience! If you are documenting the amazing world we live in and you give up and move on because of power cuts, then you are on an extended holiday and a tourist.... But I somehow think you're more a travel journalist...? Up to you...
Hi Ken I am really sorry to hear your story. Yes, the power cut is effecting everyone in Sri Lanka and I can imagine it’s not easy for you to carry on with your work. I was really excited and was looking forward to seeing your videos of Sri Lanka. I hope things get sorted out soon. The power cut situation may soon improve and I hope you will hear some good news before you make a decision to leave Sri Lanka. I wish you All the Best and thank you for visiting my beautiful country and for being so kind to people over there.
I know certain areas in Colombo are exempt, if you don’t mind spending time in Colombo till things get sorted hopefully very soon. You will be able to find a cheap room. Try hotel Sunshine in Colombo 5, by the beach.
Glücklicherweise hast Du schon viel erlebt, und andrerseits war es ein gutesTraining, denn wer weiß, wann es auch zu uns kommt. Danke für die schönen Berichte!
It's an awesome experience to live without the power! Buy a battery banks and load yourself up with extra power. You can hang one for just a one month to go... be creative and overcome the challenge. You will grow from the experience enormously 😊
Mostly in town areas no electricity cut are going on. If you choose a hotel, try to get a hotel very close to a city. For your internet problem, I would like suggest you to buy a portable wifi router and buy a sim with an unlimited internet package. In Sri Lanka, a portable wifi router will be around rs 10,000. Try to get a Hutch sim card or Dialog sim.
Hi Ken let's face it (and I wish it was not so!) There's an acute issue with electricity availability country wide. What you gathered from the article is somewhat correct. Just that I am surprised you have faced 8 hours cuts per day which is unprecedented. Max they are supposed to be 2-2.5 hours a day any where in the country. In the best case scenario these power cuts will continue till end April when the rains return to the catchment areas and we step up our hydro power generation again but alas! weather is not in our control. Hotels with 25 + rooms should be having power generators but they too run on Diesel which is available unfortunately only in fits and starts. In my opinion your best bet to stay here and still be working is to base your self in Colombo and take a different approach to your usual vlogging. A few random ideas I could suggest are; 1. Join a local social movement or volunteer group who help our the lower strata of city dwellers in Colombo and with their consent you profile that work in the form of vlogs. Once profiled its would be great if you can link it to a crowed funding initiative for that movement (they should help out with your Internet connectivity concern during your involvement) 2. Shift to documentary format and cover the plight of both Ukranian and Russian tourists stranded here and how Sri Lankans with their trademark generosity are helping them out 3. State your concerns (you already have) and put out a request for a sponsor who can sort out your accommodation and Internet in one of the main cities (Colombo, Kandy or Galle) May be my 2 cents worth wouldn't suffice your commercial expectations and comfort levels you expect but I am sharing these in the only hope that you stay back 1 more month as we are greatful for the wonderful content you have done thru 2 months and will be sad to see you terminate your vlogs here prematurely.
My mother said that in some areas of Kandy they had 7 hour power cuts. They miss the politicians residential areas in cities and just go after the little guy I believe.
Hang in there Ken. It is such a beautiful country with beautiful and kind people. There may not be many more opportunities for you to spend such amount of time again at this place. I think you will be able to manage so try to have an abundance mindset and you will overcome any shortage of any kind. All the best!!

Very sad to see the government is so incompetent & cannot sort out the crisis, the population is suffering a lot…, they should think of making a new election to vote for a good person who is capable to sort the situation out of the worst, it s actually the worst crisis that the country is ever dealing with right now…!
Its easy to blame the current govt for arm chair experts which is a disaster that was a result of years of negligence of not investing in power generation years and now burden further by the dollar crisis

Hi Ken, for a start, and for the sake of basic comfort, I would relocate from down south, back up into hill country where it will be cooler and more tolerable. Then after a couple of days, think what to do with a cooler head. We hope you stay until the end of your visa, take care 🙏
As a country we are very sorry about this situation 💔 This situation has affected you and me and all the innocent people in Sri Lanka due to the corrupt politics and bad management of the rulers in Sri Lanka. This is a very reasonable situation on your part. Even if you leave here for any reason, we hope you will come back someday when this situation calms down. Thank you so much for the lovely feedbacks and travel vlog you have put on Sri Lanka so far. 🇱🇰❤️
I’m really sorry to hear that you had to go through some difficulties in Sri Lanka during your vacation. Please keep in mind that Sri Lanka is still a developing country and recovering from Covid losses. On top of that, Sri Lankan people had to go through an economic crisis which is very bad for everyone. The tourism industry was hit the hardest. There are many low-income families that survive from tourism such as street vendors, chefs, and many more. Sri Lanka has many beautiful places to visit and I hope you’ll give Sri Lanka another chance. Thank you! Thanuja
As a student we also face so many difficulties due to these power cuts. I would like like to suggest you some alternatives to continue your works. (I also use these methods in these days.) 1. You can change your sleeping times and work at hours that there are no power cuts. 2. Use UPS for power and Dongle for internet connection in laptop. 3. If you can move to the place that have cold climate then there will not be need of air conditioner. 4. There are some areas with no power cuts or power cut with less hours. If you can move to that kind of place. 5. In big hotels and restaurants they use alternative way to produce power. (Like generators) If you can move to that kind of place. Finally I have say really sorry about this situation and if you want to leave Sri Lanka it's totally up to you. If that the case, I would like to request you to please came back again after this challenging time. Always love your contents. Thank you. ❤️🇱🇰
I'm a Sri Lankan living in China for the last 7ish years. I'm a coder and involved in managing clients who may be paying me top dollar to maintain their IT infrastructure with 99.99% uptime. When I lived in Sri Lanka, power cuts and power fluctuations were the norms. The area I lived in Kandy city had constant water cuts too. I have lost many reliable clients due to the above. Most people know that an online reputation is very hard to regain after constant bad experiences. Since I moved to China, I have experienced a scheduled power loss of 5 minutes. I had electricity even during the super typhoons. I have never lost a client since then and while I love my country, I don't see myself going back there even for a holiday. I had so many issues even trying to send money to my parents due to Sri Lanka's currency being artificially deflated. Thanks for spending the time in Sri Lanka, Ken. Please leave before things get more challenging.
Please don’t leave Sr Lanka ! Stay full visa period. As a Sri Lankan we faced so many difficulties. No gas , no power , no fuel. Rises price goods very day. You do great duty for our tourists industry.
I am a Sri Lankan. In 2022 January we had few power cuts and anticipating the situation will prevail for few months I decided to buy a MacBook Air laptop (at that time I was looking to buy a laptop). If I charge it overnight, I can use it an entire day. Then at the beginning of March, I bought a power bank (20000mAh), a re-chargeable fan and a re-chargeable bulb for my room. Initially I had a problem with the mobile network (internet connectivity provider) I was using. When the power goes off, mobile network was not working at all (I believe the mobile network tower does not have any alternative power source). I bought sims of other mobile networks and tested them and finally one of the SIM gave me continuous internet connection even during power cuts. As you said, we cannot control the power cuts as it's a decision of the government. I am adapting to the situation and right now I can work continuously even if there is an 8-hour power cut.
Nope, it will only get worst. Your currency is very weak. Inflation is high. Everything is so expensive, oil shortage. Tourist will not pay thiusands of dollars just to be stranded in a place with no power. China will take over the island, then the chinese will operate the power station. Debt trap diplomacy of China. Rajapakse family are among the top riches people in south Asia. Where do you think they're getting the money from?
Very sorry for the situation, In Sri Lanka, power generating is mainly from 2 ways. The 1st one is using water plants by the turbine and second by Diesel and coil plants; due to the shortage of rain in the country electricity from water plants are limited. Also, due to the economic crisis, foreign currency to buy diesel or coil is limited, and power generation from those plants are also limited. The reality is in the county, Politicians or management of the country still do not believe there is an economic crisis. They are still searching for some basic solutions which are not guiding to solving the issues. I think to leave the country and return once these issues are solved. Why I am saying that Sri Lanka has its own issues as mentioned above and also due to the current global situation those issues are becoming more and more so we cannot expect those will be solved immediately. And I think if you stay more days with this type of issue, you will be disappointed and will be not back in Sri Lanka.
I am also currently traveling in sri lanka. For me the power cuts are fine but I understand that it's a problem for you if you have to edit vlogs etc. You could specifically look/ask for hotels that have a generator.
Was heartbroken after reading the thumbnail..You just began the the proper exploration of Sri Lanka 😣💔 In Colombo we don't power cuts for more than one hour(Maximum). And you can find generators in many hotels here. It's your decision but adding into that We Sri Lankans despite having several crisis in the country currently we spear time to watch your vlogs(What I meant is that even if you could upload short vlogs will provide the maximum support from our side) 🥺❤️
Dear Ken. Extremely sorry about the problems you are facing due to power cuts. This will be a temporary situation. We hope it will be over soon. Thanks for visiting our beautiful country.
I suggest giving it one more week. Try to find creative ways to film and edit around the blackout periods, maybe adjust your daily schedule and sleep or go to the beach during blackouts. If the situation remains the same after one more week, I would move on to the next country because you also need to think about the best way to use your time and energy. Good luck - we are all with you!
This is not a common thing in Sri Lanka. It should be back to normal probably this week. But Ken if you can endure this for a little bit more, April is the most happening month in Sri Lanka where we celebrate Sinhala & Tamil New Year, the biggest festive time of the year. Bigger than Christmas. You'll be able to experience all sorts of traditions, food and games like never before. Just Google and see.
Sri Lankans is really depressed due to the economic crisis caused by the government's reckless fraud and waste. Generally people in Sri Lanka like to be happy. As a tourist in Sri Lanka it’s a fantastic experience to not have electricity. Ur time here must have really enriched your soul etc. and you have made friends with lovely people you would never have made if not for the powercuts.
Power cuts will be minimized very soon. But no body can guarantee on that. Anyways thank you for the support given for Sri Lanka tourism. Mush appreciated. ❤❤🇱🇰🇱🇰
First of all, my sincere apologies to you on behalf of my country. I'm a Sri Lankan living in Australia. We experienced daily 9 hour power cuts when we were younger, in 1996/1997 I was preparing for exams, and was studying with candlelight, mosquitos, sweat...etc (my mum and dad used to tell stories, during the power cuts, not seeing each others' faces, giving nostalgic memories now). I feel for you Ken, again so sorry on behalf of my country. It is a shame that the situation is the same after over 20 years. Cannot see any progress as a nation. If I were a tourist, I would move to Nuwaraeliya, which is a colder place, and do some videos there to better use my time in SL...BTW I'm a huge fan of your videos Ken. Good Luck with everything!
Feel sorry for you due to current situation in our country. May be you can manage according to the power cut schedule. Use powerbanks, rechargable torches and UPS to solve this issue. Hope it'll be end soon. Stay safe and highly appreciate your positivity.
I’m in the same shoes as you. I’m in Sri Lanka right now and have been here 2 months and leaving next month. It’s incredible how much this affects us.. Unfortunately, I’ve gotten into a mentality of counting the days until I leave and can’t enjoy anything anymore because all my energy goes into trying to finish my work around this power cuts. I’ve fallen behind with work and this constant thought of work makes me unhealthy. I feel for the people. Foreigners will be fine because they have to option to leave but what about the entire population?

Thanks.
@@nomaksy ask the schedule from the hotel. Now it's been reduced to 1-2 hours of power cuts.

@Thiru Sambu I hear Trinco is quiet because off season and weather. What is there to do if not time for the season?
The problem in Sri Lanka is more widespread
Mainly it's a combination of high foreign debt crisis , shortage of products due to the lockdowns and oil prices rising
The good thing is foreign tourism is bringing currency into the country and that helps somewhat
However the government has to decide on whether to pay for food, oil, medicines or pay the debt
That's why they are in talks with IMF
Start learning Mandarin

But I have a question.
Why don't you hold your governments accountable for that.
I can see this building up from last 5-6 years, government borrowing heavily from China to construct projects which has no return on investment. (Hambantota port for example) And there are many such projects.
Why did Sri Lankan people let that happen ?
(Because ultimately people are electing the governments.)

This is for, who is wishes to come Sri Lanka
Please ask your hotel or any local around there "what time is tomorrow s power cut"
They should know.
Please stay and continue your great work.
Hopefully, you will able to organise your work during power cuts.
It could be challenging, think it is as something in your bucket list.
Good luck.
Thanks for your videos. Come back when the situation gets better. 👏

I am really sorry to hear your story.
Power bank might be ok for phone and camera, but laptop will be challenging.
Good luck running AC on a battery bank.
Hotels with 25 + rooms should be having power generators but they too run on Diesel which is available unfortunately
only in fits and starts.
In my opinion your best bet to stay here and still be working is to base your self in Colombo and take a different approach to your usual vlogging.
A few random ideas I could suggest are;
1. Join a local social movement or volunteer group who help our the lower strata of city dwellers in Colombo and with their consent you profile that work in the form of vlogs. Once profiled its would be great if you can link it to a crowed funding initiative for that movement (they should help out with your Internet connectivity concern during your involvement)
2. Shift to documentary format and cover the plight of both Ukranian and Russian tourists stranded here and how Sri Lankans with their trademark generosity are helping them out
3. State your concerns (you already have) and put out a request for a sponsor who can sort out your accommodation and Internet in one of the main cities (Colombo, Kandy or Galle)
May be my 2 cents worth wouldn't suffice your commercial expectations and comfort levels you expect but I am sharing these in the only hope that you stay back 1 more month as we are greatful for the wonderful content you have done thru 2 months and will be sad to see you terminate your vlogs here prematurely.
My mother said that in some areas of Kandy they had 7 hour power cuts. They miss the politicians residential areas in cities and just go after the little guy I believe.

As a student we also face so many difficulties due to these power cuts. I would like like to suggest you some alternatives to continue your works. (I also use these methods in these days.)

Sri Lanka need the support of travelers like you at this moment.. This will recover soon..
Recover soon. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
soon??
Nope, it will only get worst. Your currency is very weak. Inflation is high. Everything is so expensive, oil shortage. Tourist will not pay thiusands of dollars just to be stranded in a place with no power. China will take over the island, then the chinese will operate the power station. Debt trap diplomacy of China. Rajapakse family are among the top riches people in south Asia. Where do you think they're getting the money from?
There is a limit for optimism.
😂😂😂😂😂😂 you are funny
No more power cuts in Sri Lanka now.
Finally a tourist that talks about the real issues of sri lanka, instead making fake videos about how great sri lanka is. Thank you
Good video and your reasoning for power cuts is correct. This should go on for months if not years!
Lovely to see you determined to face challenges in Sri Lanka. Way to go.
I am also currently traveling in sri lanka. For me the power cuts are fine but I understand that it's a problem for you if you have to edit vlogs etc. You could specifically look/ask for hotels that have a generator.
Hey Brother, Love your travelling vlogs. Hope to see you in Mauritius as your next trip!
Appriciate the support a lot 🙌😊
there are almost no power cut in galle
They’re on the edge of revolution so I’d be leaving from what I’ve been following
We are very sorry ken for this inconveniences. We are also suffering from this issues daily. Again so sorry ken.
If you think this will be over by next week you are deluded my friend.
Haha don’t believe this stupid liars this county will struggle for ages .. just leave brother
What about now
hi ken,,i sorry for the problems, what you had gotten in our country...what you are thinking about my contries beauty....😢😢good luck...
Sri Lankans is really depressed due to the economic crisis caused by the government's reckless fraud and waste. Generally people in Sri Lanka like to be happy. But despite having money, the country is in a difficult situation to find a meal. Sri Lankans can no longer be happy
We gonna miss you Ken. Please come back Srilanka to complete your travel. God bless you 💜️💜️
Not everywhere cut power at onece , my suggestion is to leave for defferent area may be up hill then you dont need air contion
and also they dont cut power for hospital areas
in colombo in my area, we are having only 2 hr power cut at night time
Away from Colombo morning 5 hrs power cut at night 2 hrs power cut.. tuarist travel every where they are not staying in Colombo whole month they visit
Feel sorry for this beautiful island. Hope it will improve soon.
Unfortunate about the power outages Ken. The gas and oil shortages caused by the war is beginning to have its ripple effects everywhere. If you leave Sri Lanka safe travels my friend
We had power cuts and no oil before the war
War in ukraine has nothing to do with shortcomings in sri lanka
@@UnknownUser-ni9iz you're right....I can't believe some can't see the actual reason
Rather than other youtubers you are the one who is telling the current situation in Srilanka !!!
Hi Ken 👋 this is bad.... such a beautiful country and very nice people 😢 not only for tourists but the locals have to deal with this inconvenience really sad for the people too 😬 so far I’ve never came across this kind of situation while traveling. Even when we’re at home , we would definitely get out of the house and check into a hotel if there’s any blackouts happen due to construction or other power cuts for repairing cables etc. I hope that they could overcome the issue asap , have a great day Ken take care 👍🏻🥰
Wish you all the best in whatever you decide to do. 😁👍
You should have stayed/grown up in jaffna and you might not feel that your country is in crisis
Now it’s good no power cuts Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 please don’t leave
Go to Malaysia again because Malaysia allowed to travel in April
Yes. Feel free to come anytime on or after April, Ken. Malaysian miss you too.
I'm really sorry about that..I hope all these issues will be resolved soon
I hope situation gets better.
But I have a question.
Why don't you hold your governments accountable for that.
I can see this building up from last 5-6 years, government borrowing heavily from China to construct projects which has no return on investment. (Hambantota port for example) And there are many such projects.
Why did Sri Lankan people let that happen ?
(Because ultimately people are electing the governments.)
Note: I am not trying to accuse you people of anything. But I genuinely want to understand this.
Feeling really sorry for my Sri lankan brothers. They are really struggling.Hope you will overcome the pathetic condition soon.Love from Bangladesh.
As a country we apologize to all of you who visit our country during this period for the inconvenience caused. At the moment, local people are also facing many problems as like you in our country, are facing a lot of problems at this time. Everything is good in the country, but you and we are suffering because of the unprofessional government controlling our beautiful country. They destroy all things in our country. This unfortunate situation will soon be over and you will be able to see usual beautiful Sri Lanka. Thank you for coming
Malaysia is open for u.. we are waiting for u ken..
please don't leave ken.. I m also a sri lankan.. we all can understand your situation. This all are happening because of the dirty politics and politicians.. We all are struggle to face this critical situation.. don't leave Ken. I love to watch your sri lankan vlogs and addicted..😥
You are great… we’re sorry about the inconvenience … try best to stay here as planned… Have a wonderful stay…
Hang in there. You will leave Sri Lanka with an experience of a lifetime. You see the true country during difficult times. Don’t leave early. People like to see both sides good and bad
He makes a living on making his contents, he is not the expat in Sri Lanka. Please understand his situation.
Great video, all of us are also suffering from the same powercut pain, it's terrible

I feel for Ukrainians. I am grateful to be elsewhere right now. Slava Ukraine. Sri Lanka looks good even with power cuts. Thankful.
I can understand the problems you are facing. You will be missed a lot. Things should improve in some time. I pray for the people of Sri Lanka
