    Hey, it's Regina! Truly, I cannot thank you enough for saving these fish. I'm so, so thrilled to see how amazing they're doing. I knew that since we're in a retail environment, my team would not be able to give them the care they need. I am so thankful that I found you. They're such amazing creatures and deserve a wonderful life. Thank you again

    Hi , 👋 👁 have a miniature lemon/albino 🐟Oscar, I’ve noticed about 5 days now that it has like a half hole/sink on its forehead n the middle just above its 👁’s , it didn’t have this when 👁 got it, so I’m not sure if it struck something like the filter funnel 🤔 or if this is the disease , u can c movement n the hole when it comes up close it’s only about 9 months old , this December will b a year that I’ve had it , it’s eating n swimming/ moving normal n eats good! it shares the tank with a short ruby oscar n 2 plecos that’s n the tank , my tank it’s about 55 gallons , ok any suggestions/ advice thanks 🙏👋✌️

    How’s the 1000 gallon pond holding up? Any bowing? If it holds up for a year or more I’m probably gunna build one for my rescue room

    • @HOUSEBILLINGS
      @HOUSEBILLINGS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s awesome I’ve added some bracing since the initial build and I’d definitely recommend 2” wood if planning for long term. Thankfully I won’t need this too long we’ll be moving to a bigger property but overall the design’s held up so far

    Just got two young oscars again to go in my 125 with silver dollars and couple cats............what foods do you recomend to help prevent this, I had it with oscars like 25 years ago, of course I'm quite experienced now, but..........what foods do you recommend? Or other nutrients?

    It sucks it can be a plethora of reasons they get the parasite stress bad diet water parameters just sucks seeing fish like this my bf took in 2 lemon Oscars with it kinda bad fixed them up and found a nice respectful n knowledgeable Guy

    • @HOUSEBILLINGS
      @HOUSEBILLINGS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly, it’s such a common disease but thankfully if treated early enough doesn’t have to be anything too serious. Proper diet and clean environment seem to be the best prevention.

    How big of a stock pond does 1 Oscar need?

    • @juniorlovell2833
      @juniorlovell2833 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normally 55 gallons is a good start point per fish I've had 4 in a 120 gallon stock tank as long as you give them the filtration and food and stay on your parameters you should be ok

    • @HOUSEBILLINGS
      @HOUSEBILLINGS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always say bigger is better and usually 80 gallons very minimum but yes you can get away with less if kept clean and the fish seems happy

    Help I listened to my local pet store and put bottle water in my tank with a 50% water change. My Oscars were laying down and look like they are getting hole in the head also grew algae. I just did a 25% water change. They are now up and moving. Im going to get the chemicals you recommend. Is there a way to contact you?

    My oscar has battled with hith for years. I always have good parameter for my water, nitrates never above 40ppm usually closer to 15-20 and hes in a 90 gallon by himself. I treat him with ap general cure and it works for a bit but always come back. Does metroplec have a different proprietary blend?

    I had activated carbon in my filter and my oscar got hole in the head. Taken the carbon out the filter done 3 water changes. I hope he pulls though. I never new it was a problem for fish. He has been in the tank with it for over 6 months and has only become a problem in the last week. Hope it's that and the problem is solved

    Thank you for rescuing them. With not being a huge fish keeper except breeding fancy tail guppies, I am curious is this the same flesh eating bacteria that effects humans normally with a slight wound before becoming infected? I believe it effected dogs periodically also. Is this the same bacteria?

    • @HOUSEBILLINGS
      @HOUSEBILLINGS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This parasite is not transferable to humans but it could be something similar.

    • @supportyourtroopsathletes6460

      @@HOUSEBILLINGS ... Okay thank you. I noticed the bacteria I referred to has effected many tourist and a few locals around more stagnant areas of water in and around the Tampa Bay area usually once or twice a year there is reports of it occuring. It has even found its way entering Jacuzzis around these beach hotels at times and seemed to survived, how? I am not sure with chemicals utilized so I predict people entered some of the stagnant bay area locations, became infected already before entering hotel pools and what not.
      To keep safe here, it's best to actually swim where there is constant moving water such as on the actual gulf coast beaches (not the bay areas) and or in any of the springs. But I noticed in other states, this same bacteria has been reported to effect dogs and humans alike in lakes. So if this is a seperate flesh eating bacteria, it's obviously in aquatic animals that I just never heard about. I keep all my turtle enclosures spotless with steady high powered flowing filtration system so I have never seen this nor heard of it before that you described in which I thank you.

    Hello. I have a 7 year old Oscar named Big Boy in a 125 by himself. I just noticed today he has a little lesion above his eye. The Ammonia is 0 The Nitrates are between 10 & 20. and the Nitrites are 0. I do once a week water changes. I ordered Metronidazole from the Fish Pharm today and will treat him for 10 days. Am I doing the right thing? Thank you.

      If you just bought a new filter or filter cartridge it could be the carbon, the carbon filters have been linked to the disease in a few cases, good luck

    I have 2 oscars one has hole in head really bad. I’ve been doing 50 percent water changes 1 a week. I added another filter for the back of the tank. My other Oscar does not have hole in head but the behavior has completely changed. I have been treating the tank with antibiotics with no success. I’m going to start doing water changes every day. Please any suggestions to help. I have a 65 gallon tank my Oscar are bigger then your hands in size. I’ll do whatever I can ty there my buddies there not just fish.

    • @HOUSEBILLINGS
      @HOUSEBILLINGS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Carl, they really need a bigger aquarium if you want me to be honest. Two oscars need minimum 100 gallons. Water quality is super super important. Water changes every two days for right now would be best. Feeding a good diet of protein and veggie waffers will help. Add aquarium salt when you change the water

    • @outsidergaming6957
      @outsidergaming6957 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HOUSEBILLINGS ty for the reply and yes I’m realizing I need a bigger aquarium. I have a fish store that’s willing to take them so I’m gonna try and get them into better shape first. I hate to give them up but if someone else can enjoy them and there quality of life improves its for the best. I can’t add salt I think because I have snails in the tank as well.
