    I had 3 Map Turtles Louis, Anna, and Missy. My kids decided to take the turtles outside two weeks ago and Louis and Missy ran away. I came outside to help them look, we found Anna but I was unfortunately just a couple minutes too late and Louis was hit by a car on the street behind our house. He was the first pet we had as a family and the loss devastated us all, I was on the couch for days. It was also bad that we lost Missy who we had been adopted out to us from a big chain just this past Christmas and rehabbed. We live in Southern California and Maps aren’t native here plus I’ve seen coyotes, raccoons, and other predators in the neighborhood so I had convinced myself to accept Missy’s fate. Anna was quite lonely by herself in the tank and it showed because she was barely basking or eating. So I decided to get some hatchlings from the same breeder I got Louis from years ago. It had been been a week so I thought maybe we were ready to give things another go. I went to the same big chain that gave us Missy to get a few supplies on the day the hatchlings were being delivered. As I’m walking out of the store my wife sends me a text and I open it and see it’s pictures of Missy, who despite what we had feared, had survived a week in the wild and had come home (albeit to the neighbors house) by the time I made it home our new hatchlings had arrived and I surprised the kids with them. They were already crying tears of joy for Missy so the waterworks kept flowing. So now we’ve added little Kajun and Kreole to our family and they are a delight. It hurt to lose my main man Louis but I’m grateful for all the lessons I learned over the years and the things your videos with your turtles have thought me because I’m able to give our other friends wonderful lives. Thank you and thank you Fred, you will never be forgotten friend!

    I am so sorry for your loss, I remember your first video on Fred. I recall you rescuing him. You are doing great overall. You are achieving great things with your channel. I breed and hatch out albino and snow red eared sliders and albino pink belly sideneck turtles , I never had a incident of turtles killing each other turtles during mating. I do know they are not very social animals and certain species are aggressive to each other but I never heard of red ear sliders being aggressive to one another ever so I am totally shocked. Are you sure that was the cause? I guess I never experienced it as I raise all my future breeders together so they get acostomed to one another I guess. Anyways I know you were looking at a place in Florida, were you able to find one here. I only wish you the best of luck in the future but being in fish and turtles myself, I am hoping to meet up with you later on. Best wishes and regards to you and the family.

    I'm so sorry this happened. This is why I'm always so hesitant to house turtles together & actively recommend against it in turtle/tortoise groups I'm in. You just never know when this is going to happen.

    Poor Fred. RIP. If it wasn’t for you guys rescuing him he probably wouldn’t have lived as long as he did being in that tiny dirty tank those other people had him in, which was horrible!!! So you gave him a great life and made him very happy! His memory will live on! ❤️ 🐢

    RIP FRED💚🐢So sorry to hear about this. Hugs to ya'll as I know losing an animal is always so hard and he meant so much to everyone! 💚🐢While I know this has nothing to do with this exact video I need some help because I am dealing with an issue in my RES aquarium and wanted to see if you had any advise. I recently discovered I have freshwater copepods in my planted and my RES tank. I have been told it's nothing to be worried about yet all the turtle groups I follow on FB say I should still do an entire filter and tank cleaning on my RES tank even though it would cause a bacteria bloom they said it should handle getting rid of the copepods yet everything else I've read including the pet stores told me not to worry and that you can't get rid of all of them short of throwing everything out and starting all over. I am so stressed and confused and need help! Should I do a full cleaning or just not worry about it. It's 1 4.5 inch male in a 75 gallon. No fish or anything live besides Buddy (RES) in that tank and it's a bare bottom. I already do monthly maintenance on my Fluval 407 and weekly 25% water changes. Please any advise would help ease my troubled and worried turtle mom mind! Thank you in advance.

    Hey I really need your input!! So right now I have one hatchling slider turtle in a 20 gallon tank with a water filter, heater, basking area, and thermometer to check the water temp, however I don’t have a uvb lamp or a heat lamp, I’m planning on getting one soon however I’m worried about his growth without it. I’ve heard that if you take the turtle outside for 20-30 minutes a day in the sun then it is the same as the uvb lamp is this true?

    • @HOUSEBILLINGS
      @HOUSEBILLINGS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sun every day will absolutely help. I would say maybe a little bit longer then 30 minutes but yes that will hold you over for now

      @@HOUSEBILLINGS I have another question, so I keep the water in the tank around 75-80 but Ive noticed a small gravitation in him to the water heater, he’s even been sleeping by it. Should I keep the water warmer? I’m worried about what’s too warm I feel like 82 is a lot

    I have a question.. is it bad to handle and hold your turtle

    • @HOUSEBILLINGS
      @HOUSEBILLINGS  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not at all it’s usually a good thing to get your turtle use to you handling them. Obviously just don’t overdo it to stress the turtle out, and always wash your hands after
