      @@lamaosama9342 There are so many... not worth to mention them, AND I respect the willing doing something, people like to share and present their videos and the work they love!!! Everybody grants my full respect that wants to share their knowledge or their ideas and dreams and phantasies to people they even don't know! RESPECT! And many times the people disqualifie themselves with the coments they post...
      @Waffenschmiedin x What 'Waffenschmiedin' does i really love, for me, she's an artist and sadly, I maybe never will meet her to change some words about the things she's interested in, and that way, I appreciate it double she's showing us her great talent!
      All the best in Your life, keep on going the way You are good in, liebe Grüsse aus der Schweiz, bleib gesund, weiter produk-/krea-tiv, RoB

    I had a 'Super Automatic" OTF when I was around 16 or so.
    It worked on the same principle as this one.
    It was stolen from me, and ever since then, it has been my dream to make one.
    I managed to find another Super Automatic, and although it was the same externally it was a slightly different design internally.
    Instead of the robust levers to lock the blade, it just had pieces of spring steel riveted in place.
    It was also made of some kind of zinc alloy instead of the nickel plated brass of my first one.
    I still held onto my dream of making my own though, and this video has been inspirational.
    I would love it if you made plans available, as I no longer have one to copy.
    My 'shop' is nowhere near as well appointed as yours, but I think I could make it work.
    Pretty sure I have found my new favorite channel.
    Keep up the good work!

      I wonder if there is anyone who privately (obviously of course) would make an OTF that uses a spike , like in James bond "live and let die" movie where he goes up to another spy and puts the OTF up to the guys back and click i, It goes into the guy cause the spring is soo strong? I have several in my collection but they are just so frustrating because they are so weak.... more like a movie prop than a respectable edged weapon.
      Anyone in the community that actually does quality work that takes orders and accepts paypal that you know?

    • @Waffenschmiedinx
      @Waffenschmiedinx  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      the only problem i have had to date is the key on the motor. there is no set screw (or at least not on mine) and it wiggles it self out and has shot across the shop a couple of times (it now has a set screw lol)the cabinets that came with it and the chip guard/pan sort of look like they were built in some ones back yard but for the price they had to cut corners some place, and im glad it was here and not on the lathe itself. i also think the steady rest that came with it is a POS i'm going to build another one for it. other than that it think its awesome. its accurate and for the price i don't think you could beat it. i have had it over 5 years and its had a lot of use. when i first started looking for a lathe i was looking for old american build stuff but every thing i found was wore the heck out.

    Great tip on that softer dead blow hammers face helping to shape the radius. What do you think of that off shore copy of the Deckel single lip tool grinder? New price I've seen over $10k for a real Deckel machine. :-( Likely you already know it, but with a good fixture to help tension and guide the wire lathes make very good spring winders as well.
    LOL, read your comments below about driving an older car and getting the equipment you've always wanted. Excellent logic. I've got a bit more tied up in my mill and accessories than I paid for my car when it was brand new. Not many have there priorities set like that today.

    • @Waffenschmiedinx
      @Waffenschmiedinx  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks :)! the copies of the Deckel grinders are "ok" I viewed mine as a unfinished project when I bought it (might as well when you buy most stuff from China ) it sharpens endmills really well with a Dimond wheel. the wheel that came with it was so out of balance and crappie I was afraid to turn it on. with the new wheel it seems to have a decent bearing in it. it is also to small for most things. they don't send any directions with them so you have to figure out how to set up everything on your own. the Gibs on the machine are totally crap the use 2 screws pushing on the side to adjust them which bends them and makes uneven movement. I plan to remake the correctly.i am considering remaking the whole apparatus and just keeping the spindle.

    • @Waffenschmiedinx
      @Waffenschmiedinx  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think total my mill and lathe new with the tooling I have u was around 10k if you add in the welder 13k I got mist my tooling being patient on ebay and waiting for good deals

    • @turningpoint6643
      @turningpoint6643 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many thanks for the details. Pretty much about what I expected. Some of the Chinese equipment can be improved a hell of a lot with some shop time, brain sweat and tuning. But if your going to go that far then I highly recommend a book called Building the Quorn by a Professor Chaddock. It was written quite awhile ago and you might Google "Quorn Tool and Cutter grinder for some images of finished grinders. You'll see a family resembalance to some of the Deckle parts if you squint hard. :-) But there's a vast number of improvements. The hard parts already done on yours if you keep the drive motor and spindle so you could add a lot of those improvements from the Quorn. Martin Model & Pattern offer castings in the U.S. for it, but I don't think there needed. There's even been some bar stock Quorns built. Try Googeling Bonelle Tool and Cutter grinder for that one. With the right shop built accessories there's very little a Quorn won't sharpen. Drills, reamers, taps, dies, lathe and mill tools etc. And some interesting machining setups in that Quorn book as well. I do think the longitudinal bars need lengthening on the Quorn for reamers etc. And some rubber motorcycle fork or off road shock boots added to protect those bars from the grit. I'm pretty sure you'd enjoy the book.

      I'm about 3 hrs drive east of Vancouver B.C. Shipping is a huge added expense for me. My mill came out of New Jersey since it was lightest Brigeport and only 3/4 sized Taiwan built clone I could find that had the built in head feeds. And my lathe is a bit smaller than yours (11" x 27") that I had shipped from Quebec again because of the lighter weight my shop floor needs. Have bought a few things off Ebay, but for the most part bought new. Metrology equipment, cutting tools, accessories I bought mostly about the best I almost couldn't really afford. :-) North American or European built cutting tools make all the difference. A small shaper would be pretty handy in your shop for some of the work your getting into. One of the smaller Hardinge horizontal mills wouldn't hurt either. :-)

      +Turning Point I will definitely check it out ty for the info :) I have some 1/2" Acme ready rod I was thinking if making a mill table for the tools to attach to would make it much much more useful.

    Some of us will never get bored watching you make cutters but I surely understand getting bored having to do the making. You'd think eventually we'd end up with shops full of everything we ever need. What's up with that?

    What would you call that drill Press with manual machining? I used to do CNC for caterpillar 20 years ago but got out of it after a couple years. Just not in the know, but sure would love to be able to have a set up like this old school manual over computers.

  • @flyman451

    Why are you climb milling at 23:19? I never liked to climb mill, especially when manually traversing the table, because of the chance for the end mill to grab and dig into the work piece. Overall though a nice job. If you worked for me though I'd be insisting on putting the hair up in a bun and wearing a head net. Long hair can easily get sucked into the lathe of a milling cutter.

    Only just found this channel! what a find! 100% going to make one of these do you have any rough drawings for it? I want to draw it all up in CAD and stick it on the CNC :) Thanks!

    • @Waffenschmiedinx

      Jake Poole I acualy am almost done drawing it in cad (very old version) I was about to start a video on how it works and got side tracked with the doom and gloom stuff. I should have it out in the next 2 weeks I hope. I have a shooting match I'm going to this weekend so it just depends on time. :)
