- The EU on Friday pledged €270 million in aid for Armenia, marking Yerevan's pivot to the West. But FRANCE 24's Armen Georgian notes that geopolitically, landlocked Armenia is "in a tight spot" since it relies on Russia and Iran for gas. The big question, Georgian notes, is whether Russia and Iran will play "the energy card".

You are delusional if you think that Armenia and Georgia will ever be part of the EU. They gave Armenia a few millions to make them not so consious about their recent loss. Georgia and Armenia are totally infiltrated by Russia and also dependent on Russia! No one wants these two in the EU, not even the europeans, and russians will definitely not allow this to happen!
If there is the way to mix the oil with water, the integration of Armenians into the Turkish's life, culture and religion will be the best future for Armenia in EU. Option is already there.

If "Türkiye" could just gracefully retire Erdogan (since some 40% of the people do seem to love him) in favor of somebody slightly less blackmail-y and rude, then Türkiye could finally become a member and then Armenia wouldn't be in such a precarious position, having a big EU neighbor to help scare off Russia & pals.

@@Efoish All in all Turkey have a better infrastructure than Armenia. So, for me reliability does not mean politics but business. Iran has some 400mln dollars trade with Armenia .Meanwhile with Turkey 2 billion dollars. Iran has an embargo so it has only 5 billion euro trade with the EU and 4 billion is Eus exports only. So, as you see Armenia does not have any significance as a road. Because there is no real trade between Iran and the Eu . However if Armenia will go and invite here foreign powers. It's significance rises dramatically for Iran . Iran sees Armenia as it's part. Russians took it from Iran. Russians deported killed Muslims and destroyed mosques and all the memories of Muslims in that area and gathered Christians there but now it is not the 19 th century anymore and Iran is not weak . So , armenia should behave and do as it is told to do. Armenians should know that they are a little country and the best thing is for them just to be quiet and be friends with Iran and not invite anyone here .

The video mentions that Armenia's western pivot could risk the buying of energy from Iran at "preferential rates", but Armenia actually has an energy swap deal with Iran, where they send power in exchange for natural gas, so the price doesn't matter and both sides need this. Moreover, Armenia has transit options via Iran to buy (and even export to the EU) energy from rest of the Middle East, as it has perfect relations with Qatar and other Gulf states.

Russia does not give Armenia preferential rate at all, the price they charge us is similar to France. The trick they are using is as follows: they sell it at "preferential rate" to their Armenian daughter company which in turn sell it to us at higher rates similar to European prices. Russia also obstructs an import of gas from Iran at much affordable prices. We need to find alternative sources of anything that we import from Russia as they weaponising the supply of oil and gas to us.
Exactly - funny how many people ignore this. IF properly managed, a local gas distribution company could keep retail prices the same even with "market price" import gas from elsewhere. Not to mention the customs duties outlays that Armenia pays to the EAEU, which could be used to partially offset any remaining difference.

I would be happy if this aid to Armenia did not serve its own European-French purposes. So far, the EU has not been able to establish itself as a bringer of peace in a region, rather the opposite. If I look at the economic markets and the projects like those with China and Armenia's neighboring countries, which are promising and will definitely bring about major economic shifts where Europe is not exactly a winner or rather a beneficiary, I would think that Armenia would be better travels without Europe and has a better future with its neighbors.

It sounds good, Armenia would benefit from joining the EU. But, they better be careful, the only reason that Azerbaijan has not invaded the Southern Armenia that borders Iran and divides the two parts of Azerbaijan is the presence of the Russian military base in Armenia. If Armenia moves toward the West, Russia may give a green light to Azerbaijan and Turkey to join their borders by invading this narrow piece of Armenia. Turkey and Azerbaijan are allies and they have an undeclared secret ambition to join their borders. I feel bad for Armenia, they are caught between a rock and a hard place.
I hope Armenia will join the EU in the future, but if they try to join the NATO, neither Iran nor Russia will allow them to join .v
