Wow, so CNN's lack of journalistic integrity goes all the way back to 1998? Who'd of thought it 😂 Regardless, great story, this channel is becoming my new favorite. Found it through Ballens, and I love it!
Ironically CNN had a lot to work with here without the falsehoods- invasion of another country we weren't technically at war with; tear gas is against the Geneva Convention for use in combat; and older tear gas formulas have long term health consequences (often manifesting symptoms over and over again for decades). They could have given the story a faithful, accurate overview and left viewers with "but this is what it accomplished, so was it worth it?" and let them make their own conclusion. Its a riveting story even without any falsehoods or exaggerations.

This is literally here nor there, but I always feel connected to any story that involves Laos. The reason? A woman I've known since I was 3 living less than a mile from me is a Laotian Princess that escaped Laos during the conflicts during that time. I find her story fascinating. She was born in her grandfather's bed in the palace, studied medicine where she worked with lepers in Laos, converted to Christianity (with the support of her family) and eventually fled the country through the jungle during the time of this political turmoil. Her name is Manolie Jasper now, but she was born Princess Manolie Nettavongs, the granddaughter of King Sagmavongs Southakakouman. She and her husband opened a restaurant in my hometown for a long time and she also sells health supplements from her house (I think they sold the restaurant). As I said, it has absolutely nothing to do with this story except that when I hear about the attack on Laos, I can picture her describing her escape. I obviously can't do it justice. Her medical licenses were not recognized by the American government which is sad. I don't know why I always think of her whenever the conflict in Laos is mentioned, but maybe it has to do with actually knowing an actual Princess. She herself says she hasn't been a princess for a long time (which is probably true in her eyes), but she has an amazing life history.
hey can you pump more of these out i love them and the wartime stories , im running out of your voice to fall asleep too LMAO . I mean ive relistened to all of them multiple times but i need new stories .
If Keith was 48 at the time News Stand aired, he would’ve been 20 at the time of Operation Tailwind. Is it just me or would that be pretty young for a Green Beret squad leader?
I love the video as always ❤ I just couldn't believe the drawing of April when I first saw it, I yelled out that's my doppelganger to my sister, and she agreed 😅 it's super creepy 😳 but cool, I guess =P ♡
Great series, love it and Semper Fi Luke. One thing though ... Those AI generated graphics are ridiculous. Check out the tail rotor on the "Huey" and other glaring mistakes.
This was a good episode, but it didn't answer a lot of the questions I have regarding this whole thing. You told us very well what happened, but not how or why. Is it not known HOW April and her team at CNN got the information so wrong about Operation Tailwind? Why didn't she even attempt to contact members of the unit that went into Laos to get the story firsthand? Confirmation bias can explain some of it, but not how she arrived at the bias she was trying to confirm in the first place. Is there more to the story? Were we unable to find out that part of the puzzle? I know reporters are famous for not wanting to give up sources, so I know it's not inconceivable that we actually don't know, but the story feels incomplete to me. Does anyone else know anything?
Love the stories, but the AI generated images gotta have better quality control at the very least if not reverted to the style you do for Wartime Stories. Keep slaying it
26:06 Shouldn't this helicopter be a Huey? Pretty sure the Blackhawk wasn't around yet. Neither were the Humvees, the version of M-16, nor the Desert Storm era uniforms and helmets. Good telling of the story, though.
Feel like donating money to this channel for improving artwork? I thought the same as you, but, this was free and awesome to watch. I felt sure comments would set the record straight, hopefully without criticism at the creator's budget decisions...
@@obd3256 this channel is part of MrBallen studios, a multimillion dollar podcasting company.… you know, former Navy SEAL John Allen and his stories of the "strange dark and mysterious?" I think they have the money they need. 🙂
So why did CNN settle April’s wrongful-termination lawsuit out of court if she was wrong? Why did Keith lose his lawsuit for defamation? And what made an independent investigator say the story was true?
Because it's cheaper to settle lawsuits, even if you're right, than take it to court. It's U.S. courts 101. Read a book on Tailwind or listen to the men that were there, it's clear CNN lied.
I believe for her to lose her case CNN would have had to prove negligence. If she honestly and reasonably believed what she was reporting was true, then there was no negligence. As far as Keith losing his defamation lawsuit, defamation requires compensatory losses. If he couldn't prove it harmed him financially, he didn't really have a case. As far as an independent investigator believing it was true, I would have to know the background of the investigator. At the time of the investigation much of the information about the mission was classified, such as the names of the soldiers on the mission. So if someone claimed they were on the mission, the investigator wouldn't be able to prove if they were or weren't, unless they had the background or connections to verify the information independently without the government's input, or enough knowledge of special operations structure and function to know what to believe and what not to.
The simple fact that April could not admit that she was wrong says everything you need to know about her. We all have some degree of confirmation bias but when you are presented with a mountain of evidence that refutes your claims and you still refuse to admit you're wrong then you definitely should not be doing investigative journalism. They're using it as a case study in journalism ethics in college! How much does that tell you? At the very least some soldiers got the recognition they deserved.
And a Soviet AS VAL silenced rifle (introduced 1987) in US hands in 1970. Seems like it's the world's first time travelling silencer: it transports the gun back 20 years to before the shot was fired so that nobody in 1990 hears it...
Oh, that reminds us. You remember the Vietnam War? We completely spaced on this before, but back in that war, you won a medal of honor. So here you go. The Congressional Medal of Honor

Very well done episode I'm so impressed with your work and the animation is stunning as well. I will say though i didn't realize that CNN was respected at anytime in the past they certainly are not in the present. 💯🙏🇺🇸
I’m glad a short just showed up because I never got a notification from TH-cam you even posted? Glad I’m catching it now.
Same here!
@@michie666That’s TH-cam for you!
Same. I had no idea
I don't get notifications from most channels where I should. YT has problems.
Make sure you have the notification bell on. YT keeps turning mine off for many channels like this.
Great story Luke, thx for sharing..
wartime stories brought me here!!! love this guy!!
Great job on new channel guys
Nowadays CNN isn’t even concerned about redactions or apologies.
Great as always! Would have like to see proper period uniforms but just a small gripe.
I much prefer this style of podcast with video. It keeps you engaged where just listening to someone talk gets boring quick.
Wow, great work. 😊😊😊😊
Thanks! Be sure to catch new episodes every Tuesday!
Love this channel 👏👏
Yo thanks!
Freakin' lovin' your channel! Thank you for your work.
It's funny that in 27 years CNN hasn't changed a bit. Still up to the same old tricks, LOL😂
This kind of reminds me of an old JAG episode; regarding the allegations of Sarin Gas when in actual fact it was CS Gas. I don’t know why exactly, but I kind of knew where this story was going, when I remembered that episode.
Thank you Luke ❤
The animations are amazing 😊
Whatever model you are using, the PASGT and NV mounts are over the top for the era being reported on - still; good work on the new series.
I am digging this and still hope for full episodes of Seagull Lung.
Great stories love this!
Thank you! New episodes every Tuesday be sure to subscribe!
Amazing story telling
Thank you
Mr Ballen was right. These stories are great!
So happy to see Mr. Ballin crushing. Fans for five years.
hey can you pump more of these out i love them and the wartime stories , im running out of your voice to fall asleep too LMAO . I mean ive relistened to all of them multiple times but i need new stories .
If Keith was 48 at the time News Stand aired, he would’ve been 20 at the time of Operation Tailwind. Is it just me or would that be pretty young for a Green Beret squad leader?
It's very possible he was 20 and a squad leader.
The Green Berets in Vietnam didn't have the type of selection course and training program that they do today.
I love this new series!
We love you! Don't forget to subscribe!!
Love your content
Another great episode! 💚
I love the video as always ❤
I just couldn't believe the drawing of April when I first saw it, I yelled out that's my doppelganger to my sister, and she agreed 😅 it's super creepy 😳 but cool, I guess =P ♡
Great series, love it and Semper Fi Luke. One thing though ... Those AI generated graphics are ridiculous. Check out the tail rotor on the "Huey" and other glaring mistakes.
Can't wait for the new declassified file's. Hope you're onto it. ❤🙏🇭🇲
CNN has never known “truth in reporting”!
Keep slaying it
Love the show. Thank you. I don't usually watch, just listen while I'm doing something else. I don't care about the graphics 😂😂😂
It's weird that we have international treaties and laws on how to wage war but no treaties on how to not have a war in the first place.
I love this channel.
Hear, hear. Just imagine what's gonna come out over the next few years re US and UK collusion with the IDF's genocide of Gaza and the West Bank.
Even Kissinger was upset 😂
I’m just hoping to the big man that this doesn’t ever become an AI voiced channel, these vids are bangers! 🔥
So did it happen or not? This was confusing all the way to the end.
No, it did not. The nerve gas and civilian deaths were all lies.
Wow Blackhawks and KEVLAR helmets in Vietnam.
Wrong helmet Wrong helicopter in fist few minutes
Wrong time period guns
in most of the video aswell.
Good show. The animation is very engaging but the gear for most of the servicemen is jarringly incorrect.
With my glasses off that one soldier looks like Eminem. 😂 😂 😂 now that’s all I see.
