  • @timc_in_tn
    @timc_in_tn 8 ปีที่แล้ว +36

    You are amazing! If someone was vegan or vegetarian you could still make this with unsalted vegan butter and almond milk. the meringue if vegan you can drain the juice from chickpeas and put into the bowl add sugar, vanilla and cream of tarter and it makes an amazing meringue. Happy Holidays to you and your family. I enjoy watching your videos.

    • @nightangel3578
      @nightangel3578 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No Road Signs does the juice still taste like chickpeas? Will the meringue taste like chickpeas?

    • @timc_in_tn

    I can't wait to try your recipe. I love banana pudding. I just have to set side the time for stirring and using the double boiler which was dedicated solely for Banana pudding by Mama. Do you know how many folks who don't know any better would have got their electric hand mixers out? Wrong! Even an old manual hand turning mixer back in the day was looked at sideways. Lol! I love that you showed how to use your hand to separate your egg yolks. Folks are so scared to get their hands into the food. It's common sense, you wash your hands before & throughout the whole food prep process. No one should have to say, I washed my hands, right? One of my dearly departed Aunties use to make/mix her cakes by hand; no spoon, just her hands and eyeballing. The best cakes ever! When I think back on the honor and great privilege I had to be in the kitchen with these Phenomenal Woman, my Grandmother (Big Mama born in the 1880's), Mama & my Aunties dropping cooking gems as they taught & shared with me, I know now what I didn't realize then, I was truly Blessed. People, This is how things are done from scratch--with love, with the heart of the ancestors who taught you, with pure soul & thoughtfulness, with the best ingredients, and with constant, careful attention on the glorious creation you are preparing for your loved ones. My Mama from the N.E. Texas/Ark/Louisiana (TexArkAna, the 3 states) Region, was known for her famous Banana pudding plus other desserts. From a little girl that was one of my jobs stirring the pudding over a double boiler. And, YOU are absolutely RIGHT you DON'T EVER go the CHEAP route with your ingredients for desserts or other food dishes. That's ONE of the many reasons why historically African American Desserts/Dishes stand out among the rest. It is good to see your family recipes are being preserved via video for the generations to come. The one on one teaching in the kitchen is sometimes impossible with our busy schedules and the mind occupying tech gadgets of the youth. However, every grandmother, mother, auntie, sister, & daughter worth her salt in the kitchen should take out her smart phone or camera and record her family recipes to leave as a priceless legacy to her family. If your desserts and meals aren't being applauded by those who dine at your table, you need to get some relatives on the phone & ask for help. Folks should be talking about your dishes. I remember when I was 18 or 19 and the pastor & wife in their late 40's or early 50's during the closing prayer would ask God to touch Sis. So&So, the Sweet Potato Pie Queen (me) to make him a Sweet Potato Pie while his wife would jump up and down saying, "Yes, Lord, you can taste the butter, the cream, the vanilla, the cinnamon & nutmeg. Yes, Lord!" Lol! I can still remember a church woman's dressing that I ate over 45 yrs ago when our church visited her church about 120 miles away. Every time I make dressing to this day or even talk about dressing, I mention that Sister's dressing. My auntie--a great Master Queen in her own right--who also ate some of that dressing, and I came home trying to re-create it; we came very close. I have to give the woman her due respect, she's a Boss Queen. (But, you know what, I think I have it now. ) That's how your food and desserts should have a profound effect on people. Never settle for mediocre. Knock it out of the park Every Time you step into your kitchen. And you haters & ingredient critics feel welcome to visit but mind your manners or feel free to go hang out on the vegan channel with your foolish comments.
    SoulfulT, Keep on cooking, Girl. Keep those recipes coming. Your Ancestors are With YOU & are Proud. Much Love and Respect, 👑 Queen.

    Its truly a blessing with modern technology how you can shoot videos and leave a legacy for future generations giving others around the world your "PERSONAL" gift...as I stated before I love watching your videos it seems just like yall are family! I know I am hoping to learn to post some soon as I would love to spread joy through cooking and crafting then my future grands and family can always have something to remember me by...our ancestors left pics but we are blessed to actually leave videos. May God continue to shine light and BLESS you and your family!

    THIS here is a "MIGHTY-GOOD DAY indeed!"
    My 'grammy' passed years ago & I have told my husband MANY times that "Home-Made" Banana-Pudding isn't made from a BOX!
    NOW the real recipe is here with you!
    YOU are so very wonderfully talented! My own 'Biological-Carrier' left my dad when I was about 9, so I never had more than "Maude" & "Mrs. Jeffereson" as female mentors;
    I'm 47 now with 3 of our own...FINDING you has been such a BLESSING; an ANSWERED prayer!
    THANK YOU!

    I've been looking for a good old fashioned banana pudding. A proper one without jello puddin' and with the baked meringue topping. Yuuuummm!

    This was one of the first things Ms Tina taught me how to make in Savannah, back in the day. That was 28 years ago!!! I'm sooooo happy to see this recipe! Have you ever used Madagascar Vanilla? I found it at World Market and when I compete in pie making, it's my secret ingredient. (Well, it was) LOL. ITS MUCH MORE flavorful and requires less. Try it out!

I have this a couple of times, but of course no one compares to mama's love from scratch. I will be looking forward to yours. Stay blessed and encouraged Ms. T

    That's the real deal.. Nice variation on a pastry cream, I use something close to this when I want to fill Eclairs and Pate Choux, no starch, a pinch of salt and I add Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Bean tho.. Great job..

    Looks delicious. The only variation I have is that I make my pudding the day before and let chill. Before assembling...I add cool whip to my pudding and mix well...that adds an extra creaminess to your pudding. I don't do meringue...I have a dab of cool whip with each serving.

  • @kathythompson1958

    thank you for the video. I believe that your meringue will have stiffer peaks if you add your sugar after you see soft peaks, then whip to stiff peaks.

    Ms. T do you put the full recipes somewhere on one of your social media sites? I absolutely love the way you do things from scratch an I watched this video a few time to make sure I had the ingredients and times but I would like to make sure I didn't miss anything. Every time I watch your videos it reminds so much of when I was a little girl and my grandma was in the kitchen. So authentic and beautiful. God Bless you!!!
