Yeah, the Humans at the military base were SO stupid and it turned off Slingshot and most of the other Aerialbots to helping the Humans so because of that, Seattle was nearly destroyed by the Decepticons while the Autobots were nearly crushed forever. If I was the U.S President, I'd have the General of the base fired while all those who bought into the whole "Autobots attacked us" mindset fired or at least blacklisted for nearly getting Humanity wiped out with their stupid act.

"Vector Sigma, give these machines personalities worthy of him who created me. Let them think for themselves, to grow in knowledge and wisdom, and let them always value freedom and life, wherever they find it." Along with the combiners, guardians, and attitude, this is why this episode is the best in the whole series. It lays out the Autobots' philosophy after Megatron tells Vector Sigma to fill the Stunticons 'with hatred for the Autobots, and all that they stand for." Good guys vs. bad guys, but rarely is it defined like this.
It really shows in how they develop. The Stunticon's are a bunch of goons who while initially dangerous when the Autobots didn't quite know what to make of them quickly fall into the standard incompetent villain mold of most Decepticons because all Megatron programmed them for was "To beat up Autobots for me." The Aerialbots meanwhile initially had some personality problems but they eventually came through and grew as Optimus said and quickly became some of the most valuable Autobot's on the team well into Season 3 20 years later in show.
@@bob1986 I agree. The Aerialbots grew as time went by. They do have some personality issues at the beginning. Silverbot and Skydive were the most disciplined once they came into the picture. Silverbolt is one hell of a leader in his own. For someone who is scared of heights, he boldly went after Megatron alone to dispossess him of the key to vector sigma before destroying it. His bravery act despite his weakness earned him new respect from his Autobot comrades and fellow Aerialbots who finally acknowledged him as their team leader.
It actually was a little bit beforehand when the one human dude was taking over rebuilding Omega Supreme when the other Autobot was low on energy. Then they realized, with Silverbolt's help of course, that the humans, while not perfect, are worth fighting for because of their compassion and concern for others. As for conquering his fear of heights to defeat Megatron (for now) and destroy the key (for good), then he deserve kudos for that too.
Why didn’t silverbolt just track the key to the ground and pick it up and give it to prime for safe keeping instead of crapping himself while trying to destroy the key in mid air, surely the key wouldn’t destroy the earth if it hit the ground from a mile in the sky 😂just another of those ott unnecessary climaxes, could have just had ironhide or slingshot catch it as it approached the ground 😂
@@greenbeacon394 Season 3 focus on battles on 2 fronts, Earth and Cybertron. In space, Silverbolt need not worry about his fear of heights as space in such a void area. Silverbolt’s fear of heights comes about if there’s a ground like Earth. By season 3, Sliverbolt should have mastery over his fears too.
The 2nd half to Key to Vector Sigma is arguably the best Transfomers content (movie, TV or anything else) ever done. Megatron's slow approach to Seattle gives a sense of high stakes. The plot armored Stunticons make the Autobots seem like they are back on their heels the whole time with some great moments for both Autobots and the newly minted Decepticon team. It's only the intervention of the Arialbots ... driven by an actual crisis of morality ... that turns the tide. But then the tide turns again with Menasor ... but then turns AGAIN with Superion. A Kaiju style battle begins and they duke it out in a tense confrontation and the tide turns again ... only to have Omega Supreme jump in at the last second. But Megatron still has the key and the only way to stop him is for Silverbolt to confront his own weakness. When you stop to think it all through this last 5 to7 minutes is pretty much better than most of the crap that passes as "entertainment" nowadays. Well done.
The episode also highlighted how Cybertronian civilisation was seriously degraded, with most survivors of the Great War being unaware of their history as a species or even how they were created as individuals. Imagine soldiers from warring factions in the Middle East or Africa not knowing the basics of their own history or even how babies are made because they've never known anything but bloodshed.
There must have been a part in pt.1 that they edited out since Optimus was talking about an explosion by Megatron and Shockwave that never happen on screen. Not to mention a hole on the side of Omega in pt. 2 that was never explained that caused Omega to explode once he landed back on Earth. Maybe TF Wiki or somewhere else online explains what should have happened.
It was really cool to see Decepticon cars rival the Autobots, and then Autobot jets too. Seemed like a logical progression of the two factions. But then when not just one special team but both combined, I was floored as a kid. We had no idea there were gonna be more combiners than the Constructicons. That hit us from left field.
They thought about making the Dinobots a combiner called Extinction. The proposed backstory was that the first time they tried him out, he was too powerful and impossible to control, thus too dangerous for Autobot and Decepticon alike so the Autobots locked out the combining function
Grimlock is the best. "Dinobots! Do tail stuff, Do acid stuff, do flying stuff" He keeps the instructions simple so the dinobot know what to do. That takes a lot more effort to lead because they are slow and dumb. And if Grimlock ever shows a sign of weakness guess what happens? They will lose respect for him and stop taking orders. He has to be tougher than optimus prime to keep them in line. That is why he has to remind people he is King. It's not a democracy or republic but a monarchy where he has final say and nobody can disagree unless they succesfully assassinate him to take the crown. Since Grimlock is merely friends with Optimus and has sovereign authority over his men, he can choose to leave at any time and go his own way. (lot more freedom than all the other autobots) He just sticks around because it mutually benefits them to be allies. Most of the time the Dinobots are helping the autobots and not the autobots coming to rescue Dinobots. This indicates independence. In the marvel comics he is a bit nutty and starts to execute people for treason but I don't accept that as canon. His true personality is the cartoon from the early episodes. (the 1986 movie softened him up too much and made him too much lik a "pet" like Dino from The Flintstones imo lol) Over time they made him more kid-friendly and less like the frankenstein 'monster' of early episodes where he is actually scary like the Hulk.
@@UToobUsername01 "That takes a lot more effort to lead because they are slow and dumb." Not at all. It's really simple. They'll never question anything and don't need much guidance. Akin to a factory boss just telling his workers to "work hard and it'll benefit us all". If they're stupid they'll happily eat up that and do as they're told. If they're smarter they'll ask for more information and what's all going on in the company. The dumber and ignorant some people are the easier they are to control, to deceive and to lead. "It's not a democracy or republic" Those are totally interchangeable in the modern era. Democracy just means that common people vote for decisions and everybody's vote counts equally. A republic meanwhile is a *constitutional form* and a *system of government* . For some strange reason (lack of education and the ignorance of the public) some seem to think that these are two fundamentally different things. What these ignoramuses (and probably you too) think is a "democracy" is *direct democracy* i.e. what the Ancient Greeks had. Things were voted on in public (but that was only possible for free males) and decided locally in towns. No need for a central government or any kind of representation in said government. But we haven't had any direct democracy anywhere in the world for several centuries. Our modern world requires a centralized government of some form, be it democratic or absolute(despotic/tyrannical). "but a monarchy where he has final say" Well, unfortunately that kind of absolute monarchy only exists in Saudi Arabia today. Their king really has the final say in everything. They have no free democratic elections, no government and no politicians. Virtually all other *present day* monarchies are *constitutional monarchies* , meaning that they have *everything* a republic has with free elections, elected political representatives, parliament and government. The only difference is that the rather than the president (in a republic) being in charge in a constitutional monarchy it's the *prime minister* . The king? He is just a figurehead with ceremonial powers and is often just granted emergency powers and the ability to discharge or disqualify a prime minister. He however absolutely cannot do that at will and has to do it "to serve/save the people". This is sort of an emergency override should a tyrant or an occupying force put a local collaborator or quisling type in power (the Norwegian king did exactly that during WWII). Your *medieval king monarchy* is nowhere to be seen these days. Well, Saudi Arabia is the exception and it's an *absolute monarchy* . Grimlock's closest historical equivalent is probably King Zog of Albania. Zog saw himself as a great king but had no noble heritage and actually started life as a son of local landowner. In Albania that meant owning a lot of sheep. Basically he made himself prime minister first, then he decided that wasn't good enough and proclaimed himself a president. But that wasn't good enough either and he proclaimed himself a king. While officially a king he was the butt of jokes all over Europe. Apparently he smoked heavily, swore in public, burped at dinner tables and reportedly ate like a pig. He also always carried a gun with him all the time. A lot of people wanted to assassinate him. Once he actually sat in an open car when an assassin fired on him. He actually fired back. Now obviously King Zog was a brute with no manners and no class. Some may find his ways "admirable" because he made himself king and he didn't seem to care what others thought of him (or was too dumb to realize this). He had a few minions who were loyal to him and who worshiped him like a king. The bottom line is that he was a brute who somehow became a king. He was a king by title and is recorded as such in history. But he was also seen as a dinosaur with a crown and as such had no idea that all his brutish antics only worked against him. King Zog. Look him up. A brute's ideal version of what a king is like. "Most of the time the Dinobots are helping the autobots and not the autobots coming to rescue Dinobots. This indicates independence. " No, this indicates *rogue behavior* . Independence without responsibilities, obligations and limits is rogue at best and downright sociopathic at worst. Grimlock is a vassal. A vassal is in charge of his reign. During the Medieval era, the kings needed loyal vassals to control their parts of the kingdom. But vassal themselves could never control a kingdom because there were many other vassals willing to do the same. Sorry, but whatever assessment you have of Grimlock is certainly not backed up by something valid or factual. Footnote: You struck me as somebody rather unhinged, lost and fanatical so I took the liberty to verify my assessment of you by checking out your profile. Lo and behold I was right. Actually you are more fanatical and unhinged (a dangerous combination both for you and the poor souls around you) than I would have assumed. Long story short: You're not fit to assess anything.
While I'm a huge fan of Beast Wars Silverbolt I have much respect for G1 Silverbolt. He to is a noble and valiant soldier, perfect to lead this rowdy group of Autobot jets.
So is silverbolt from beast wars his dependent, like, did cybertron had like another crisis, not energon but like the materials to make Cybertronians and had to reincarnate people
Soundwave. Provides high contribution to Decepticon cause in every episode. Also Soundwave. Solves the mystery of key to Vector Sigma by tripping like a clumsy fool once in the whole show.
It seemed very uncharacteristic of Soundwave to trip and fall. I know it works for the plot, but Rumble seemed more of a likely candidate to fall, not Soundwave.
@@shaunredd2321 Weirdly enough, going over a lot of the old cartoons, I actually realized Soundwave being clumsy is actually a rather consistent trait, even if its accidental. One of his first appearances has him running out of a building, stumbling into a fence before getting away. Another time was when the Insecticons were able to capture him fairly easy. So him tripping actually isn't that odd to me when I pair it with other moments. Kinda feels like a call back to his tech specs which shows when it comes to speed he only gets a 2/10. This version of Soundwave isn't very agile when he's caught unaware.
They never explain it in G1, but The Aerialbots keep referring to their past life. "I was a low level transport ship". Not really explained until later in Beast wars with sparks and the creation matrix
@@gabs5144 Why not? Even our primitive twenty-first century cars contain computers, microchips and digital memory. If Silverbolt was a low level non-sentient transport ship, he would probably have contained some sort of onboard computer, if only for docking manoeuvres. If the Autobots didn't specifically remove that, it could well have been a part of his neural circuitry, and able to be accessed by his memory after Vector Sigma programmed him.
I wonder if anyone else noticed that when Omega Supreme appeared to help and Superion saw him you could hear him speaking as if was and I'm sure of it was all 5 of the Aerialbots speaking at once as they all sounded happy to see Omega functioning again and back on his feet.
The voice actor for Air Raid and Slightshot is the legendary Rob Poulsen who is known for his role in Raphael in the original TMNT. Charles Adler, the voice actor for Silverbolt is also the same guy for Starscream in the Hollywood movies.
Yeah, that was pretty strange covering up Fireflight's complete introduction. I'm guessing there was an animation mistake that was covered up to save time and $$.
I like the way Ironhide said that the Stunticons were out their heads after Blaster suggested that their drivers licenses should be revoked!!! lol 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣
I guess in this episode we're suppose to forget about Brawn,Power Glide,Huffer,Jetfire,Warpath, the Dinobots etc. as the Autobots were extremely short handed. Were they on vacation with Astrotrain, Blitzwing, Skywarp,Thundercracker etc.?
My favourite Aerialbot was always Silverbolt as he was like the Optimus Prime of his team, very humble, kind, caring with a lot of respect for both humans and fellow Autobots alike but always cautious about any Decepticon situation. Just like Prime, Silverbolt always kept his Aerialbot teammates in check especially Slingshot, if he got over his fear of heights then i think he would be truly unstoppable but aside from that, he is a great leader in his own right. 12:51 Skyfire, Omega Supreme, Cosmos & Powergilde: are we joke to you? Side note: The Key To Vector Sigma two part episode were excellent introductions for the Stunticons and the Aerialbots
That's often been the case with all the leaders of the Combiner teams. Each leaders have their own personalities and quirks, but also possess traits of a natural-born leader who could give their faction leaders a run for their money (especially with Hot Spot).
Megatron knows all too well that when Omega Supreme shows up, it's tickets for him. Omega Supreme can handle Devastator, Bruticus, and Menasor on his own.
I'm guessing that after so many encounters the Autobots had with the Constructicons and Devastator Optimus probably had enough when he and the others built the Aerialbots and gave them the ability to unite themselves.
Prime actually mentions this earlier in the episode, when Alpha Trion merges with Vector Sigma: "He gave his life so six could be born.", or something among those lines. The sixth is Superion.
@@darkneon5637 I honestly wouldn't want a G1 reboot cause I feel they got everything right the first time and I don't want hollywood taking a shot at replacing Peter and Frank as Optimus and Megatron
@@thejackhannibal7035 you must also remember, Peter Cullen and Frank Welker are in their 80s now. They aren't going to be around forever, so new talent will have to be found to voice their respective characters.
The shooting scripts for both installments of this two-parter contain several "deleted scenes" which expand greatly upon some of the more significant events in the story. In this episode: 1. Omega Supreme repairs himself after his battle with Shockwave (deleted from Part 1, although this episode contains a vestigial reference to it, when Ironhide says: "Now all we've gotta do is hope that Shockwave didn't get the better of Omega Supreme!"), but is only able to do a rudimentary job, noting that his personal survival is "highly improbable." It is this which causes Omega to explode upon his return to Earth-he willingly puts himself in danger to bring the Autobots back so they can stop the Stunticons. 2. Later in the episode, when the Aerialbots watch as Sparkplug works to repair Omega, Sparkplug turns on the young punks, explaining what caused Omega to explode, making them realize what he did for them, and what they owe the Autobots. This is very much in contrast to the complete non sequitur of the finished episode, in which the fact that Sparkplug can continue working when Ratchet can't, and then Silverbolt makes the Aerialbots somehow realize that they owe the Autobots their lives
I think its funny how Slingshot, the one who's constantly bragging about his speed and superiority, turns into a Harrier, by far the slowest of the 5 aircraft alt modes of the team! The F-4 Phantom, F-15 Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, and even the Concorde airliner can double or, in some cases, even triple the Harrier's top speed!
It's also worth noting Slingshot almost always has his landing gear extended, further limiting his flight speed. In 'War Dawn' he was fighting the Decepticon F-15s with his wheels out 😂 but somehow still won!
Note that Optimus said "1 autobot gave his life so that 6 could be born" he was including Superion their combined form which they already designed when building the 5 Aerialbots
The look on Megatron's face when he saw that the Decepticon's position of having combiner teams was no longer when he saw Superion was priceless as the Autobots were about to have more combiner teams in the form of the Protectobots and the Technobots and like I questioned before I sure wish I knew where the Protectobots came from did they always exist or were they built the same way as the Aerialbots and the Technobots were.
It appears they crashed on Earth and were revived in a manner similar to the Insecticons. Their non-robotic forms were re-molded to resemble Earth vehicles, but they didn't unite with the other transformers until later. By that time, the Protectobots had already already created their own hidden base. Since the group still found the base useful, they kept using it.
@@KingCrafter23 It's safe to say the "newer" Transformers crashed on Earth around the same time as the first-season ones. Note how in the two-parter "Desertion Of The Dinobots", Perceptor says something similar to, "After millions of years of being exposed to the Earth's atmosphere, a rare element essential to our survival has started to deteriorate."
Oddly the Stunticons are incredibly competent in the G1 cartoon. Aside from being pushed strong here, they stay strong in most appearances. The Autobots need to plan very carefully to get them in Masquerade. Even then look at everything Menasor has done. He usually comes out on top. He beats Superion here, and is the only combiner to ever legitimately put down Bruticus.
@@terryxperry Err, Bruticus had just defeated Devastator and Megatron. If they were weak, they were still tough. Although Menasor did take them from behind, nothing else had worked at that point.
I thought was cool, because before EVEN knowing Menasor's profile(or any of the Stunticons for that matter) it seemed like he was just so conflicted and maybe in "pain" from merging into one being. Good stuff .
Pretty on brand actually, decepticon combiners are mostly deranged psychotic monsters, while autobot combiners are emotionally stunted and singleminded to the point of tunnel vision.
I think the only other time Omega Supreme was up against a Combiner was against Devastator. Would have liked to see more episodes where Omega went up against Combiners. In regard to Omega Supreme being saved(repaired), in G1 story line how long did he last? I never saw a demise of him, only that he eventually did appear in the episodes anymore.
Part two episode debut of the Aerialbots: Silverbolt, Slingshot, Air Raid, Fireflight and Skydive. While the five evil Stunticons combine into Menasor, the five heroic Aerialbots also combine into Superion. The latter group are the first Autobot Combiners.
Even though Beast Machines get a lot of hate, at least it used elements from G1. The key to Vector Sigma is one example. In one episode, Tankor uses the key to try to turn the techno organic Maximals into metal, just like in this episode.
Heck, in the same movie, Ultra Magnus is blown apart (much like Omega Supreme here) and the Junkions just reassemble him, give him a coat of wax, and he's fine. I always yelled at the screen "go get Optimus and bring him to Junk!"
Well, Omega Supreme had a team working on him. During the time of the movie, most of that team was dead. Perceptor's specialty wasn't repairs on that level.
While i still laugh at the fact that Silverbolt got acrophobia, i still admit that Silverbolt is a good leader after all. He got his flaw....like EVERYTHING in existence does. But he never let us down.
He showed he was the inherently of Alpha with how he saw things and faced his fears. Then add into the paradox when Superion saves the young A3. Returning the favor to him.
@@alphatrion100 Yes, the original toy was well.. it was what it was. At that time, that's what we got and we accepted it. I do like the original toy, but these 3rd party toys that are available are freakin' AWESOME.
This series borrows effects sounds from others like Star Wars and Doctor Who quite a bit. At 7:09 the machine is making the Dalek "heartbeat" sound, and the sound of Wheeljack's back door in the first episode is the Sonic Screwdriver.
I love that Optimus said that one Autobot sacrificed his life so that *six* could be born, not five. This could be an error, or the whole Alpha Bravo fiasco, but I'd like to think he was referring to Superion as the sixth Autobot/Aerialbot, as Combiners are their own individual beings with their own identities and personalities, not just a composite of five different robots.
Menasor - "MENASOR CRUSH! DESTROY! Superion - "TALK IS CHEAP!" When I was a kid, I couldn't understand what they were saying (maybe the bad quality VHS I had didn't help lol)
Silverbolt is the largest plane of the Aerialbot jets, but yet for a leader, he's not the bravest. But yet, I like that in a character. Not 100% brave but willing to fight and protect.
This felt like the start of a combiner arms race, they build cars we build jets, they build a team of war vehicles, we build a team of rescue vehicles, they build a bunch of monsters, we build a walking super computer, they build a squad of animals we build a, uh a space shuttle dragon thing. Okay they weren't all one to one but there is a precedence.
Prime sick if the laserbeak, ravage and rumble decides to create cassettes for blaster lol Everything the cons did the autobots copied The autobots came with the art of transforming first then the deceptions copied it and then created Megatron one of the first deceptions that can fly without having a jet mode Pthe cons came with the combiners ftrst then the cassettes then the triple changers than the six changers The autobots came with the headmaster concept first
To be honest all of G1 was constant arms race - if one side made something the other would copy from combiners to triple changers to city bots to six changers to headmasters, it was never ending. But it was the 80s, so it was on brand
In the marvel comic book it was more evident. There was an entire issue about the autobots gathering/stealing datas to replicate the gestalt technology of Devastator.
Curiosly, IIRC according the old toy Tech Specs, Slingshot was actually the *slowest* Aerialbot, despite his bragging here. On the upside, he had VTOL capabilities, which was unique among the team.
From what I can tell, Slingshot kind of has an inferiority complex. He knows he can't hold a candle to the others, but he still doesn't want anyone to think anything less of him. He's simply trying to protect his own pride, and I'm sure he goes too far sometimes. On the upside, if you do anything to impress him, you're going to hear him mention it. He won't keep it a secret. As much as he annoys me, this is something I have to give him credit for.
@@SJAlbury And it had to be. It took place in the timeline just weeks after the Vector Sigma two-parter. Comparisons in quality were absolutely unavoidable. :-)
@Emperor overkill Pretty much the same thing. By my count, there are three occasions where Megatron threatens or otherwise barks at Soundwave. If Galvatron counts, he does it a few times in carnage in C minor.
R.I.P. Alpha Trion. 😔 I wonder why Superion had such a high voice in this episode versus later ones? Maybe since the Aerialbots had just been "born" it was his prepubescent voice. 😝
Alpha trion didn't really die he transferred himself into vector sigma as you can plainly hear alpha trion talk to prime after he merged but if you wanna say alpha trion died go ahead
Yeah and remember Peter Cullen was the voice of both Optimus Prime and Ironhide and I forgot his name but the guy who voiced Megatron voiced several other Decepticons heck he even voiced Wheelie who we were first introduced to in the movie.
In season three silver bolt flies into the mouth of tripticon disables him by firing inside, then flies out, forcing Triptykon to retreat Not bad for someone who is afraid of heights
Yep! They are like immature teenagers. This is more evident in the episode "War Dawn", where they felt connection with the decepticon seekers because they were jets too, and Starscream took advantage of that to lure them into a trap.
It’s funny how the Key to Vector Sigma would later serve as a foreshadowing of Beast Machines, where Megatron wanted to use it to Cyberform what’s left of Cybertron’s Organic Core.
Wherein you wonder why anyone would make these specific choices, if they were going into battle. Of course, the real reason is that they just want diverse toys.
Love the way Optimus says "Starscream.. and the Jet's" at 8:30 for two reason. One, he has a bit of fear in his voice, which highlights just how formidable the Decepticon Seekers are and secondly, it's funny as it sounds like he is introducing a 60's band or soemthing.
What might Megatron have achieved in the time it took the Autobots to create the Arielbots? Also: “ … so that *six* could be born?” I assume Superion is the sixth?
OP really did make a good choice in making Silverbolt the leader of the Aerialbots. In a way it reminds me of how in some continuities OP himself was previously a librarian, or a factory worker, seemingly low level positions, and yet he became the leader of the autobots. Silverbolt was a low level transport craft and now he's the leader of the Aerialbots. Truly inspiring to see how Silverbolt was able to push past his fear of heights to do what needed to be done and was able to destroy the key to prevent Megatron from cyberforming Earth.
A low position may give you an understanding of the interests of the people around you - or other workers - but it doesn't give you the kind of wisdom needed to lead at a high level. Of course, this is just a cartoon. But, I remember thinking that they should at least have given Optimus some of the wisdom that would come from years of leadership in a serious situation. Kids learn from stories... Better crafted characters would give you something to learn from.
There seems to be ALOT of DELETED SCENES if you watch both episodes back to back. When did Megatron set a trap for the Autobots on Cybertron?? When did Shockwave and Omega Supreme fight?
I love how even after all this time the humans haven't yet memorized the faction badges.

I don’t know, “Code of Hero” is pretty good.
I like the way Shockwave was doing his morning stroll and happens to stumble upon the autobot shenanigans lol
I think a cut script was that Shockwave shot Omega making him explode, but Omega resisted long enough to get the other Autobots get to earth.

Yep... I remember talking about this in school the day after this episode aired... we were all blown away, haha!
They thought about making the Dinobots a combiner called Extinction. The proposed backstory was that the first time they tried him out, he was too powerful and impossible to control, thus too dangerous for Autobot and Decepticon alike so the Autobots locked out the combining function
It did
"Repairs: Complete. Omega: SUPREME." One of the most badass lines in the series.

@@Wolverchenus I always thought the same thing.
Silverbolt is one of the best sub-team commanders. He developed rather nicely into a pretty good leader.
Agreed
He's relatable

Soundwave. Provides high contribution to Decepticon cause in every episode.
Also Soundwave. Solves the mystery of key to Vector Sigma by tripping like a clumsy fool once in the whole show.
13:24
It seemed very uncharacteristic of Soundwave to trip and fall. I know it works for the plot, but Rumble seemed more of a likely candidate to fall, not Soundwave.
@@shaunredd2321 Even the best can fall. And in the pilot episode, Soundwave tripped over a net.
soundwave's so good that he figured out how to solve a problem by accidentally tripping on purpose
"Vector Sigma, give these Autobots personalities!"
"Okay...but your're not gonna like them"
Alpha Trion did it when.he merged
They never explain it in G1, but The Aerialbots keep referring to their past life. "I was a low level transport ship". Not really explained until later in Beast wars with sparks and the creation matrix
@@ds222
Even accordingly, they couldn't have memory of their past, they were just lifeless machines, before Vector Sigma gave them life.

Maybe they were all lost in the Bermuda Triangle?

Probably dispersed across the planet. Presumably monitoring for Decepticon activity.

The shooting scripts for both installments of this two-parter contain several "deleted scenes" which expand greatly upon some of the more significant events in the story. In this episode:
I would say let's play a drinking game where we do a shot every time there's an animation error, but everyone would straight up die.

Perhaps that's why he's always bragging, because he knows he was made to resemble the slowest aircraft among the 5.

20:07 the way Omega pops in and just destroyed Menasaur is just awesome
Decepticon combiners outnumbered their autobot counterparts
Yeh they were season 2 as well, just later. It’s unknown officially but assumed they crash landed from Cybertron
@@KingCrafter23 It's safe to say the "newer" Transformers crashed on Earth around the same time as the first-season ones. But I never seen them use the vtol at all
From what I can tell, Slingshot kind of has an inferiority complex.
War Dawn was the best two episodes ever.
@@SJAlbury And it had to be. It took place in the timeline just weeks after the Vector Sigma two-parter. Comparisons in quality were absolutely unavoidable. :-)
@@Tricob1974 His motto is:"I'm better than I'm thinking!", which sums his personality.
Slingshots fits the "jerk with a heart of gold" trope.
13:26 One of the few times Megatron berates Soundwave
Correction: One of the *ONLY* times Megatron berates Soundwave
@Emperor overkill
Pretty much the same thing. By my count, there are three occasions where Megatron threatens or otherwise barks at Soundwave. If Galvatron counts, he does it a few times in carnage in C minor.
@@amitypredator9385 Yes. Galvatron counts and we all know why.
Soundwave: You're sleeping on the couch tonight!
Megatron: But I still get to be the big spoon right?
Soundwave: ........
He berated him in Auto Berserk after failing to get the negavator.
G1 Silverbolt:"I thought this day will never come!"

"turn the planet into a metal wasteland"? bro your planet is literally 100% metal
R.I.P. Alpha Trion. 😔 I wonder why Superion had such a high voice in this episode versus later ones? Maybe since the Aerialbots had just been "born" it was his prepubescent voice. 😝
Superion had Sludge in his voice for the first time.
@@thespaceram2879 Frank welker did it and this was the only time me frank.did superion
Alpha trion didn't really die he transferred himself into vector sigma as you can plainly hear alpha trion talk to prime after he merged but if you wanna say alpha trion died go ahead
@@chrisedwards3214 His version was bad and he is a good voice actor. I prefer Ed Gilbert's voice for Superion in the War dawn episode the best.
@@chrisedwards3214 True. Only his body died, but his spirit lived on in Vector Sigma, and he even came back as a "ghost" in Season 4.
Easily one of my fav episodes!
"Shut your trap, or I'll reprogram some humility into you with my fist!"
Amazing threat.
Love this line
And the arielbots are somehow happy about it!
*good by cruel world* I almost fell out of my chair when he said that. LOL
4:35 💀the animation issue in this show are priceless
"Starscream and the Jets"; I like the sound of that.
Yeah and remember Peter Cullen was the voice of both Optimus Prime and Ironhide and I forgot his name but the guy who voiced Megatron voiced several other Decepticons heck he even voiced Wheelie who we were first introduced to in the movie.
Frank Welker.
Wasn't a cartoon in the 80s and 90s frank welker didn't do
@@chrisedwards3214 there are very few cartoons in the 52 years as a voice actor that he didn't do.
"if it's all the same with you, I'd rather walk" lol
I can’t blame him. I have a mild fear of heights, myself.
I'm guessing that the you get used to the fear and it naturally subsides after a few missions.
In season three silver bolt flies into the mouth of tripticon disables him by firing inside, then flies out, forcing Triptykon to retreat
Not bad for someone who is afraid of heights
Grew up watching the Transformers! & still watch it & collect the toys!
Silverbolt aside, the Aerialbots really were a bunch of arrogant punks, weren't they?
Yep! They are like immature teenagers. This is more evident in the episode "War Dawn", where they felt connection with the decepticon seekers because they were jets too, and Starscream took advantage of that to lure them into a trap.
Blasted youth elements
It’s funny how the Key to Vector Sigma would later serve as a foreshadowing of Beast Machines, where Megatron wanted to use it to Cyberform what’s left of Cybertron’s Organic Core.
Aerialbot roster
Silverbolt: Concorde supersonic airliner
Air Raid: McDonnell Douglas F-15C Eagle
Fireflight: McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom
Sky Dive: General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon
Slingshot: British Aerospace Harrier jump jet
Wherein you wonder why anyone would make these specific choices, if they were going into battle.
Of course, the real reason is that they just want diverse toys.
@@Leto2ndAtreides. As Lucius Fox said in The Dark Knight Rises:"Nothing like a little air superiority"
4:35 traitor behind Megatron 😂
Love the way Optimus says "Starscream.. and the Jet's" at 8:30 for two reason. One, he has a bit of fear in his voice, which highlights just how formidable the Decepticon Seekers are and secondly, it's funny as it sounds like he is introducing a 60's band or soemthing.
Definitely 1 of my fave episodes. I take it that the Quintessons created Vector Sigma
What might Megatron have achieved in the time it took the Autobots to create the Arielbots?
Also: “ … so that *six* could be born?” I assume Superion is the sixth?
Yup. Some nice foreshadowing by Optimus there.
1:04 I spy with my little eye, Concorde, the F-15 Eagle, and the F4 Phantom.
1:08 and the F-16 Falcon Fighter Jet and the AV-8B Harrier II
My Favorite Combiner team is the Stunticons! Cool rivalry between MotormMaster and Optimus Prime!
It's a good thing Megatron got a truck.
Mine is bruticus.. even as a toy
The sound mix on the VHS of this 2-parter was so bad that I'm only now discovering lines of dialogue. Still great, though.
Soundwave could have put an end to all that Aerialbot nonsense if he'd transformed and let out one huge cannon blast at the moment they were created.
You mean shockwave?
There seems to be ALOT of DELETED SCENES if you watch both episodes back to back. When did Megatron set a trap for the Autobots on Cybertron?? When did Shockwave and Omega Supreme fight?
13:32
The pre-cursor to the plot for Transformers: Devastation.
I wonder if Silverbolt was what inspired the character Blades in the Rescuebots show
