Excellent registration for Bach: clean and uncluttered. But, tempo for the first half is too quick for the acoustics. The flourishes become muddied; they are not clean.
The Prelude is a hommage to Buxtehude, I suppose, while the Fugue sounds so french, with this subject reminding of a gavotte. What a beautiful and moving composition altogether. God bless Bach and the many generations of organists still capable to reproduce his works.
It's a "BACH" sound organ. Straight and honest. You can't hear that kind of quality on a Cavaille Colle organ. Frau Schouten hat wunderbar gespielt. Danke dafür.
@John Smith french organs are just different, not better. you may prefer this or that kind of sound but is your personal opinion not a matter of quality.
@John Smith ok. if you make a matter of quality of the sound let's compare this to real german organs, of which is of course a copy. but otherwise you compare german sound with french sound. even if we take the mighty silbermann, or schnitger and compare it to isnard or cliquot they are the best of their areas, they definitely sound different but beautiful in a different way. anyway the quality of an organ can be felt only when you hear it live
@John Smith i insist. that is your PERSONAL opinion. i played the isnard of st maximin, and the muller of oude kerk amsterdam surely the best historical organs i ever played. which one is better? no one. they have nothing in common except the fact they have keyboards and pipes. both so different, both so beautiful. that is also an interesting about the pipe organ: every one is unique
@John Smith that is the point. how you would compare picaso with monet, caravaggio or chagall? so different, so beautiful. let's compare stradivarius with guarnieri not just "common one". you can't simply say that schnitger, muller, silbermann are "common one". were bach, haendel, mozart stupid to appreciate those organs? maybe they didn't have good ears
Wondrous! for the power of the music and also the glorious structure of the instrument giving life to Bach’s creative power. I never fully appreciated organ music until hearing Bach performed on it.
Geniale Organistin!
This is extremely good playing...vibrant, free flowing and great interpretation of what could be a turgid piece of Bach. This group has some surprisingly excellent performers, male and female.
Wow you know how to play Bach Dorien! .........I loved your Bach Trio in D minor BWV 583 interpretation too plus the descriptions and registration tutorial. Fantastic and authentic!
I wish I live the day I see a great produced movie of J.S.Bach and this should absolutely be in it: He had just got his first real job in Arnstadt. This position as a highly paid organist had fallen into his lap in 1703, after a brilliant performance when testing the new organ. But a couple of years later, it was actually criticism of his organ playing that was given as one of the reasons for letting him go. He was supposedly played too many strange notes and variations in his chorale preludes. The church council believed that this confused the congregation. It would be very amusing to see the congregation struggling to cope with Bach's modern harmony
Overigens heel mooi gespeeld!
Thank you so much for this very fine and expressive play, it is so clearly and so intense! I have a scores variant of this BWV 533, where the fugue ends in E-Dur.
Does Dorien choose the pieces she wishes to perform? Her performances are magnificent. I had a cat named Dorian, Black, and White, scaled to size. ~That is none but a coincidence. But how can you miss the name? These videos are great, and I also really appreciate it when we are given an interview with the performer after. It really helps to bring things full circle. Great stuff!
I'm surprised nobody has noticed Nicolaus Bruhn's Praeludium in e minor "The Great" is the inspiration for Bach's own prelude here. Somebody is talking about Buxtehude, but I think it's not the case. Go check the chromatism of that piece.
It is the Bovenkerk in Kampen, but this church has two organs: the Hinsz (main) organ and the Reil (choir) organ. The latter is being played in this recording.
Very good technically, but too much rubato for my taste... And why the same registration between tne prelude and the Fugue ? A bit boring. And take care of the tempo !
1. 00:07 Prelude
2. 02:15 Fugue
Excellent registration for Bach: clean and uncluttered. But, tempo for the first half is too quick for the acoustics. The flourishes become muddied; they are not clean.
Dzięki.

@@BillofWatkinsville Why did you comment this under the time stamp??
This kind of music is written to be preserved in the cultural memory of mankind til it ceases to exist.
Imagine kicking bach out of his job cause he confused the flock with his genius
Nothing last for ever. That's a rule of God.
@@musael22 of course not, before it was composed it was not existing.

Definitely the best recording of BWV 533 I’ve ever heard - excellent combination of organ and organist, proclaiming the greatness of Bach!
Micheal Murray's recording of it on the organ of St John the Divine in New York is also worth a listen.
I also suggest chapuis’ recording: great and unusual registration
Ricordo quella del dott. Sweitzer, monumentale e profonda nella sua lentezza...
@@oblo7389Chapuis' is amazing
This video is a must-play-again. And again. And again . . .

Very impressed! Not heard very often! Thank you!
This is very well rendered, particularly beautiful the work on its dynamics making it a meditative dance, as sarabands are! More, please!
Beautifully played on a wonderful instrument. Many thanks. 👍 ❤️

Perfect tempo! One of my favorite recordings.
The best recording I have heard so far of this piece.
Fantastic baroque sounding instrument and fantastic playing! Thank you!
Beautiful music beautifully played! Bach’s music is unbelievable! 😀
The Prelude sounds like Buxtehude. Nice piece and one of the easiest Prelude and Fugues of Bach`s.

Netherlands has the best organ players, no doubt and very proud of it
This is the best performance I've heard (and to my opinion this is the best melody of Bach). Thank you.
This Masterpiece is , Marvelous makes one think where mankind is heading.

Very nice, a dream of harmony and peace 🌺🎶...Bach
The Piet Kee performance on the superb Hagerbeer/Schnitger organ at Alkmaar is the gold standard.
This prelude sounds very special to me and I like it a lot. The registration fits very well.
Currently studying this piece. Excellent performance.
An interesting option to end the fugue in minor as opposed to major! I like it.
Listening to this for the first time.

"Still in his twenties" is an understatement. When Bach came to Arnstadt in 1703, surely he was only 19?

Yes, Dorien chose her own pieces.
There are so many harmonic fluctuations, it's almost modal. This prelude and fugue is kind of unique.
Hormonal?

GRANDIOSA DORIEN ( grazie from Italia)
Gut gespielt!👍
Bravo! Thank you!
unusually expressive ,different from what is heard mostly
Fantastico!
Really a great organ!! I prefer Alain's reading, despite the phrasing of this fugue is perfect.
Sehr schön, danke.
bravo, played so musically!!
Prachtig !!! 😍😍😍👏👏👏💐

Her feet, dance across the pedals
Beautiful
Buena digitación. 👍
bravissima!
BRAVAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Is there no tierce di picardi in this piece, so it doesn't end on the tonic major?
In the later version Bach ended in the tonic major, but in the earlier version he ended in minor

Yes
I love the 9 minute organ drone

Tempo!! It's a prelude, not a toccata.
