@@magical571 oh, I don’t remember for certain because the original comment is removed, But I think maybe it was about how the parents would reject their young if humans come into contact with them and get their scent on them, but yeah it’s just a myth. I’m not sure why that person removed their comment, I feel kind of bad lol cuz they might have misunderstood my comment and thought I was insulting them. I was only annoyed that people had disliked the video and was theorizing that some were probably the people who think that myth is true
After watching this video, I crush all my cans before throwing them out to prevent animals getting stuck. I've also heard yogurt containers, especially yoplait, also can become death traps for wildlife. Cut up the container before putting in the trash. We humans have a responsibility to do as little harm as possible to nature and wildlife.

@Sailor moon 8883 true if there were hedgehogs outside they would probably die from the heat before it dies from trash (I live in Tucson Arizona and it's like 96-106°f weather)
that's exactly why you should always squash your tin cans, or even better...put them in a bin!🐹

The NegativeGuy The cans are usually recycled by melting them down to recast, so squashing them makes no difference :)

Once upon a time, there was an old man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach every morning before he began his work. Early one morning, he was walking along the shore after a big storm had passed and found the vast beach littered with starfish as far as the eye could see, stretching in both directions.
Off in the distance, the old man noticed a small boy approaching. As the boy walked, he paused every so often and as he grew closer, the man could see that he was occasionally bending down to pick up an object and throw it into the sea. The boy came closer still and the man called out, “Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?”
The young boy paused, looked up, and replied “Throwing starfish into the ocean. The tide has washed them up onto the beach and they can’t return to the sea by themselves,” the youth replied. “When the sun gets high, they will die, unless I throw them back into the water.”
The old man replied, “But there must be tens of thousands of starfish on this beach. I’m afraid you won’t really be able to make much of a difference.”
The boy bent down, picked up yet another starfish and threw it as far as he could into the ocean. Then he turned, smiled and said, “It made a difference to that one!”

Yes, the story of the starfish saver: You cannot save them all, but to the one you can make all the difference. Little guy couldn't back up because his quills prevented backwards movement! How difficult would it have been to put the can in a garbage can!! Man's trash and how terrible it hurts nature and the environment. So thankful for the vigilant neighbor and Wildlife Aid! Hope the little guy lives a long and happy life.

Why can't people do exactly what this man did to the can? I mean how difficult is it? I ALWAYS smash these kind of cans, since I too have wildlife coming into my yard, but I never just throw empty cans on the ground. Some people never cease to amaze me. Don't they think about the "what if's"?
I don't think the homeowner was "just throw[ing] cans on the ground."
He was obviously using them for painting.
In any case, the hedgehog was saved, and all ends well.
HotCuppaCoffee I didn't see any evidence of active painting going on, only an old rusty can with paintbrush in it, but no paint in sight anywhere. That little guy had to have smelled dog food or he would not have tried to eat anything out of that can, and especially paint. So sorry I don't agree with you.

Yesterday we found a baby hedgehog strutting around on the road, lots of kids were around so we immediately went in to get a box. We brought it inside then fed it and gave it plenty water. We released it earlier today and it went straight into the bushes, so we followed it. We then seen it laying there with its mother, so we decided to leave. We are now going to be adopting 3 baby hedgehogs since we fell attached to hedgehogs. Wish me luck xx (as you can tell by my profile picture I'm still addicted to hedgehogs)

Thank you indeed. 13 years ago while driving my jeep at night I came across a hedghog with head trapped in a seasem oil plastic jar.I stopped and carfully freed it.It was great to save that lovely animal.

Oh wow, I never thought of this. I live in the U.S., so I'm not sure if there are wild hedgehogs at all where I live, but the point stands that leaving cans uncrushed could be a problem for smaller animals that I just never really stopped to consider

Paradoxically, the hedgehog had a great shelter for the day in this metal can. Hedgehogs are nocturnal animals. During the day they fall asleep heavily and are then helpless. Only needles on the body and safe hiding places give them protection.
I'm absolutely jealous of your native hedgehogs there. If I tried to pet a rabbit or squirrel here I'll get bitten or fleas for sure

When we lived in The Glade the house we bought had a small wooden shed for garden tools etc. the floor of the shed was raised on a few bricks to prevent the floor from rotting, this was a favourite place for hedgehogs.
