- Every year, we recieve multiple calls to help rescue young swans who end up a little lost after being driven away from their parents. Unfortunately, wet tarmac can look a lot like water from the air and many end up on busy roads!
With this particular youngster, Simon and Lawrie weren't quite prepared for how feisty this swan would be...

That is perhaps the most aggresive swan ive ever seen. Enyways, i must thank you guys for helping that swan to get him where he is suppose to be and just for being there for such creatures. :)

Congratulations, Lawrie. You've now passed one of the final tests of being a veteran rescuer -- a swan beating. Simon's a legend in the swan community, and now you can become the new whipping boy every swan must encounter for a stay at the WAF swan spa! 😀
I'm amazed that despite the swan being stressed and angry, it didn't bite any of you. It's an angry but gentle swan
Some swans won't peck, out of fear of retaliation I think, while others will do it a lot. I once spent most of a summer working with a vet catching swans, vaccinating them and letting them go. Being pecked isn't a big deal as their beaks are fairly feeble, usually unable to draw blood even on bare skin. The wings can inflict some unpleasant bruises though, and the swan can injure itself hitting you with its wing so catching them to help them is harder than it looks.
I get bitten sometimes .. it doesn't hurt but is gets bruised .
Being pecked is relatively rare. They will wing-hit you if you get too close but, usually, once they are contained they give up and accept things.
@@wildlifeaid I was surprised though by how feeble their beaks were when they did peck, because they looked as if it ought to hurt. I'm also surprised by the similarity of your swan bag to the ones we used, as they were not purchased items but designed and made by the vet himself. I guess it's a result of solving the same design problem with the same priorities.
@@wildlifeaid Still remember the angry swan rescue where Lawrie was pecked in the elbow the entire car journey to release it XD

It can hurt a bit ( Yeah I was also punched by a swan and had a pretty nice bruise after lol ) But releasing them is the best feeling ever !

It's always gets me how they go from hissing and pretending to be an adult Swan to the peeping baby Swan the moment you hold them.
This one couldn't decide which it wanted to be.
It's great... they can be really feisty but as soon as they're contained they go straight to 'I didn't mean it, be nice'.

There had been swans in the past who had been happier to ride in a messy Volvo. 😂

The new swan resident regaled them all with the story of his arrival by "special swan messenger service" and was soon the swan of the hour!
Simon was adding a little "David Attenborough" to the end of the rescue for good measure! So glad the dynamic duo was there for the swan! He was so big!!

I just LOVE how Simon is so nice to swans even though they are trying to murder him. Swan tries to kill him and he's like: "Have you quite finished? What's with all the flapping?"

So hilarious that at 0:23min the chase for the swan is on with Simon and Lawrie coming for it from both sides and there is an actual street sign right there that says "the chase". As if it was meant as a prop for the film. Lol

They are quite big for sure! An adult swan only weighs about 10kg though :)

What an ungrateful customer that swan was!
I got some news, me and my mum saved a juvenile swan at the wild life lake, he was chased by his parents, I distracted the parents while I help the rangers catch the swan, I told the swan, hold still and don’t be silly, I also said you can’t go anywhere because you are now in a bag, I told the rangers about Simon, Lorry and wild life aid
