    Another factor that doesn't get a lot of attention: Many fruits and vegetables nowadays are less nutrient-dense than they used to be, as modern farming methods have degraded the soil so severely. Healthy soil is _alive..._ what we have nowadays is just dirt, which is dead.

      I have a client who is an organic farmer and he has mentioned many times how amazing the difference is between his soil and the soil of his neighbor (conventional farmer) whose fields he also works.

      I heard there has to be a balance around 50/50 in the soil between bacteria and fungi for the minerals to be taken up; and that modern farming has upset that balance in bacteria's favour.

    • @Macam2macam
      @Macam2macam 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yup. the use of pesticide etc kills the bacteria in the soil, they produce contents for the soil. it s dead soil, like you said.

    Very important discussion. I started a near-keto with no added sugar and low carbs, after 6 months one day "Bingo" things were more free with my flow and "other functions". Very good discussion here; thank you.

      @xcast1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      While keto, meat, dairy, eggs are generally bad for health long-term, inflammatory and f'up the arteries, the animal foods indeed provide more zinc (less by amount than by better bio-availability because of missing phytate)
      Better a healthy plant-based diet plus some B12 and some 6mg/day zinc added. Outside Northamerica also add some 50µg selenium / day. And on all diets take care of Vitamin D / UVB sun and getting >100µg/day total iodine somehow.

      Excuse me, but he falls short by informing people about how important Iodine, Iodide & Selenium are as well! Doctors' are NOT TRAINED in more than 4 hours of Clinical Nutrition in Med school!! ONLY DRUGS! PEOPLE need to seek professionals TRAINED in Clinical Nutrition where they can help cure many health issues and help your body perform as intended by blood chemistry analysis, where deficiencies are detected and tended to with REAL, NOT OVER THE COUNTER junk and fake or tainted supplements!

    My husband suffers from a seriously enlarged prostate. It is hard to believe that his urologist hasn't recommended taking zinc to help stop it's growth. He is hard to convince (my husband) so I am asking him to watch this video to see the mechanics of how it will help him. Thank you for all you do to help us understand the medical world.

    • @sheilasmith1109
      @sheilasmith1109 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, Sly fox, do you now understand that most doctors are NOT TRAINED in more than 4 hours of Nutrition in Med school and are indoctrinated to use ONLY Rx drugs? Besides, why CURE a patient when that would stop them from coming back again and again, just like the drug companies WANT them to do! $$
      I highly recommend to you and every other man with BPH to FIND a Certified Nutritional Therapist, who is TRAINED to discover Nutritional Deficiencies and treat things like BPH and to DISCOVER IMPORTANT NUTRITIONAL DEFICIENCIES THAT CAUSE OR CONTRIBUTE TO COMMON DISEASES! HAVE YOU ever had a Vaginal Yeast infection? That COULD BE THE CAUSE of your husband's Prostate enlargement, too! But MD's are NEVER trained to test or even ask about this!
      See my comments above this one and read my suggestions! It could be very helpful for you, your husband and countless others who are suffering! Same thing goes for people who suffer from recurrent SINUS
      Infections!! Besides, antibiotics DO NOT CURE FUNGAL INFECTIONS! Antibiotics only cure BACTERIAL infections!
      Find a Certified Nutritional Therapist or Nutritional Therapy Practitioner for SAFE, affordable, non toxic and proven health care needs like these and more!

    In 93 I was in a parents room in our local hospital (UK) the TV was on and a program about prostate death in the US mentioned exercise similar to pelvic floor called mid stream interruption.
    I have been doing and recommending FZ's to all men since then i'm 55 and have no symptoms so far. FZ's stands for Frank Zappa who died from prostate cancer. Cheers

    I could see (and I don't know if it actually works this way) that as a cell continues to mature that they accumulate zinc to such a point that ALL ATP production would cease and that apoptosis would refresh the cycle again (a new cell to take its place). The cell would need to have a sufficient supply of ATP to do "other" work (aka - keep the lights on). Young cells would have a relatively rich supply of ATP, but older cells would starve due to catastrophic zinc supply. Young cells could grow, creating more zinc channels perhaps, that would eventually lead to its demise. Under this model, the zinc goes into the cell and stays. The zinc is eventually liberated during apoptosis.

    Hi Dr Been,
    1. You said Zinc should be taken in a form bound to Amino Acids if it is to help with BPH. What does this mean, in the sense what type of zinc can be purchased that has this characteristic?
    2. Is there any issue about copper that needs to be considered when taking this (or other) form? I have seen in some sources that taking more than 40 mg might cause issues with copper absorption.
    thank you

  • @sheilasmith1109

    It is a KNOWN chemistry fact that Copper PUSHES Zinc out of the body, if there's more Copper in the body! I ALWAYS make sure my clients have a Copper blood value test done AND Zinc test done. If you have Copper water pipes in your house, all the more need to test! You can ALSO perform a ZINC TASTE TEST at your Nutritionist's office! It's cheap and easy! It's IMPARTATIVE to have Optimal levels of Zinc for many reasons! Oh, its also important to use a Copper Free multi/ mineral Daily Supplement as well!

  • @acugreg
    @acugreg 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have read that zinc absorption is not only limited by form of supplement but also by our digestive biology. Chris Masterjohn suggested that absorption is limited to 7 mg per dose, but I don't have a reference for that. If it doesn't cause stomach irritation for you, take it on an empty stomach for highest absorption. Ideally, you use a well-absorbed form of zinc (citrate, glycinate, gluconate, acetate and not oxide or picolinate) and take multiple smaller doses. Most supplements far exceed the 7 mg limitation, so he recommends the Jarrow Zinc balance, which I believe is a 15 mg dose. There are also some good multivitamins with chelated zinc instead of zinc oxide. Given that the study used 80 mg of a poorly absorbed form, I bet that benefit can be seen from lower levels of supplementation in addition to a zinc-rich diet.

    • @acugreg
      @acugreg 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did find a paper that stated, "Fractional absorption of dietary zinc in humans is typically in the range of 16-50%, which is inversely related to oral zinc intake. Moreover, net absorption is regulated by body zinc homeostasis and, thus, depend on the individual zinc status adapting to prolonged low zinc diets." They indicated that absorption can be even higher when someone is zinc deficient, but as I read that statement, taking larger doses has diminishing returns. That would be another reason to spread out smaller doses.

    I wonder if (big if), the Zinc transport channel is Insulin activated and as such susceptible to Insulin Resistance. So that even if Zinc is sufficiently available, less gets into the acinar cells than would otherwise. Perhaps the BPH is exacerbated by chronic hyperinsulinemia.
