    Methinks you started with all the safety features turned off - then crashed - and crashed again - and then you expected it to fly well......

    I disagree... the plane can't get much better to be honest. You are really making some crucial mistakes that you really cannot blame on the plane.

    • @toddy2519

      Your biggest mistake is you fly much too low! Did you ever hear of the old saying, ''Fly at least three mistakes high?"

      I bought this plane too as beginner and I have no problem. Even with a lot of wind it is really easy to fly! It seems that you crash the plane voluntarily. Just with the fact that you tried it in a stadium with poles... great idea for a plane that reach 80 km/h speed!... no more comments.

      I was a noob ab one month ago, and I went to my hobby shop, bought the rtf version. Then I went home and built it with my dad and I couldn’t wait to go to the field down the street to fly the next day or so. When we got to the field I found the sequence to be very straightforward and I flew the whole time with safe mode on. It took off very quickly and had very dosile user friendly characteristics but I had a blast and didn’t you know, hit a pole or anything and it glides in for a landing really nicely. So, finally, with all due respect, have to say I 100% disagree with your hypothesis that this isn’t a good beginner plane. I also fly off my neighborhood ‘s small streets and even had it low cutout on me right over a backyard and the only thing broken was a prop, plus I smashed it into a roof, I broke the tail part same as you, but I used foam safe ca so it’s extremely solid now. I once got interference and my plane nosedived and again the prop and cowl are the only thing I’ve broken. I also hit a car and a pole later on but didn’t brake anything. So I believe that I’ll have to disagree with your other statement and say that it is extremely durable and believe me when I say this because I have put it through its paces. Have a good day.

    You stalled it every time, this plane does not like stalles, if you had it in safe or intermediate it would have recovered, letting go of the sticks. So both crashes all your fault

  • @TwoGoatsRacing
    @TwoGoatsRacing 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    It’s not the planes fault you are incapable or unwilling to stay within that airplanes flight envelope.
    Going into “newb” mode at low altitude is specifically stated as a bad idea in the instructions.
    It’s a great flyer. You.....not so much. Cudos to you for blaming the airplane though.

      its good if you have someone to teach you, but when i first flew an rc plane (volantex mini trainstar) it went straight into the ground, but it was ok because the trainstars are indistructable. a carbon cub would be broken, also you have to land it on your first flight and assemble it, although the assembly isnt hard it discourages begginers so overall i dont recommend this as a begginer plane

    Okay, opinions here. Hate it if you want.
    First thing, any maiden flight should start with getting as much altitude as possible to allow you to get comfortable. It is a lot more stressful at lower altitude. 3 mistakes high! Airspeed is life, altitude is life insurance.
    Second, it has safety features, use them! Turn them off progressively as you get used to the airplane so you don't crash... again and again... This airplane is almost impossible to crash if you know it well. My experience with scale cubs is that they strongly dislike stalls. They'll either flip over or spin, I wrote off and repaired my Flyzone Super Cub in a climbing stall. Still flying it to this day.
    Thirdly, a poor mechanic blames his tools. This airplane has next to no bad reviews. That says a lot... It would really help if you actually took the time to learn how to fly before getting into trouble at low altitude!

    your stalling it out on about half throttle you didn’t hold up elevator when you were turning so it’s naturally gonna lose altitude and you weren’t watching the plane you were messing with your transmitter also I’m a beginner and I can fly this plane very easy I’ve gotten in multiple flights, when you put it in quote on quote “noob” mode it’s gonna try to prevent stalls and you had the nose completely pitched up on like half throttle so it over corrected because it’s trying to stop you from stalling and you didn’t have enough power to recover from it so the nose weight sent you nose divining towards the ground. This plane is Farley easy for beginner personally I don’t use the gps mode because it’s pretty easy to fly without it and the plane is pretty forgiving depending on the flight mode you have it in and it glides very nicely, I would recommend this to beginners wanting to learn to fly 4 channel or more!

    My friend maidened his today, it went into GPS circle mode by itself and he couldn't get it off... was fighting the controls trying to land... hit a tree, it fights its way out of it, flys 20-30 feet straight into the ground, then the plane went full throttle went straight up and did a loop slamming nose first AGAIN into the ground... just wow these things are cursed.

    Sorry for Maiden Flight 2...the crash sequel. got a brand new one but awaiting some missing screws to finish assembly. I've owned a 3-channel Super Cub S (a true beginner plane, thankfully) for a year and I agree even never having yet flown the Carbon Cub S+, this is not a beginner plane. Owners Manual is lacking, and as you say, 'too much to remember'. But as it is my 2nd Cub, I'm looking forward to it. I will however, be shutting off GPS at the outset - never had it, and don't need its 'complicated benefits' as I get to know how this puppy flies.

  • @Jazzman-bj9fq

    Jeez Louise, hey I can get into a comedy video which is what this is but from what I'm seein', you'd be the last person anyone should actually listen to as far as a recommendation on an rc plane, lol. I'm aware that the camera probably makes the model appear farther away from you than it does to me but you tend to have more success flying a plane of that size doing 'racetracks' as in flying a rectangle with rounded corners with you at the center of the near straight away. That way you can judge your pitch better on those straightaways and you have fewer instances where you don't have enough airspeed. This plane you show clearly has some functions like the SAFE system and the GPS which aren't common to all rc aircraft so it's probably important to read the MANUAL a few times so you can understand those functions and you clearly haven't. I ain't an expert by any means but I've flown a trainer similar to the size in your vid, an F4U which is a challenge and an edf and that racetrack pattern seems to work much better than your experiences with this plane. It's totally ok to make your vids and have fun and such but when you are in a media format such as this, you have to know that a lot of folks who know nothing of the hobby might be watching your vids and taking advice from you when you really don't know what you're talking about.

    You said when you set up the safety mode that you didn't think it was right, and orientation of the airalons was completely wrong so as soon as you activated safe mode during the flight it didn't stand a chance.
    I've seen a few vids and I think the set up seems a bit confusing and very involved especially for a beginner but if you want a plane with so much technology then it will need setting up correctly and it's probably best done by someone who already has a bit of knowledge about it to start with.
    Kind of a catch 22 situation.

    I bought one from a friend of mine that flies nothing but electric and he couldn't get it to fly Said it was to complicated. He and I took it over to the park and he read the instructions to me and we se it up and tried to fly it. First we couldn't get the prop to do anything but pulse. We found out you had to set the home position so we did. I took off and it kept flying in circles, in front of me and behind me. I finally cut the throttle and it landed in the grass, not at home, and broke the nose off. I glued it back on and took it to another field and had someone help me and we got it flying, again in circles behind me. I cut the throttle and landed it. Later I flew it twice more and still not right. The next day I took it out and could not get the prop to rotate at all. I am going to box it up and send it back to Horizon and see if they can repair it so it will function properly. Three wise men have looked at it and they are as confused as me.

I am amazed at your patience to repair and determination to make it work. In your first flight video you mentioned that you did not have the manual. Hmmm. Looks like there are some things to know in the manual that are not intuitive. This flight a lesson learned is to use an open field with no poles.

    Hmm, I wonder if your issues may be directly tied to using the 6i. I notice that the 6i is NOT listed as a recommended controller. I also noticed that you don't have the channels set up as directed and are not taking the time to calibrate the electronics suite.
    I've been flying the non-SAFE version for over a year and the only time it crashes is when I do something stupid.
    Looking forward to the maiden of the Cub S+ tonight. Who knows, I may be back here tomorrow eating my words.

    • @karlhunt
      @karlhunt 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alright, maiden is finished. Flew like a champ.
      That said here are a few things to be aware of. The manual is WRONG about how to configure your transmitter! if you follow the directions in the manual you will end up with your flight mode tied to your trainer/bind button and your GPS circle/autoland tied to your flaps switch. GPS sync takes FOREVER. The aileron issue you show in your vid means it is having issue with your radio signal which may be causing the crashes. None of the auto features work under 20 feet an you fly really low. But the kicker, and I suspect the cause of your crash here, is that when it goes to the virtual fence, pattern flight, or auto land it's first turn is a sharp bank and yank that loses 20+ feet of altitude. Couple this with the messed up directions in the manual and I suspect that you actually switched to autoland or pattern when you tried to go to noob mode.
      Now that I've tried this with the full feature set and the basic park zone one, the park zone is better, but this would take the lead if it was only safe without all the GPS crap.

    Are you sure the switch for the beginner/intermediate/advanced isnt reversed? You might be switching to advanced instead of beginner when it crashes. Also, is that the transmitter that came with the RTF package? It looks like you are using the DX6i, and not the DXe that comes with the plane. I'm betting you are having a set up problem.

    Read the manual then read it again and then read it again , if you don't have the switch's in the right sequence and don't do the compass orientation and have the height for a gps landing your asking for trouble , I beleive you should have flown it in gps safe mode and let the plane do its wiggle waggle thing until you got used to flying it

      I know, it's weird, right! But many people have commented that they had a very similar experience to mine. I think some of it depends on the type of pilot you are and you're expectations for this plane... but also the plane seems to have some issues as well sometimes.

    • @kballard72
      @kballard72 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RCwithAdam1 yeah it's odd. I wonder if this happens with the rtf that comes with a radio or these issues crop up when binding to another. It shouldn't but I'd be curious when the spastic dives pop up for people.
      I've flown with the smart system on other planes but used the controller they came with.

  • @ibstrummin2
    @ibstrummin2 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    looks to me like you've got your transmitter set up backward.. ie.. switch for beginner/intermediate/advanced is reversed. and/or you didn't properly calibrate on startup.. either issue is easily remedied.

    At the beginning of your vid you stalled your plane as you switched safe on. Stalled with safe=spiral of death. Test your plane at higher altitude ;-)

      Yes, but safe can't turn of physics ;-). If the plane is to slow safe can't help you. The bad thing is that safe take the plane in a corkskrew when it stall's :-(. At low altitude it is the garanty of a crash :-(. You are absolute right that this plane is not for a absolute beginner. I have started with a hobby horizon Champ S+. It is small an very lightweight and glide's very good. I lost the lipo one time and the Champ glides slow to the ground and nothing happens. No damage.

    Thanks for all the chuckles. You are unfortunately the classic example of failing to properly set up your aircraft, and then ignoring the potential for stalls. It seems underpowered, even for your 3s battery. Are you sure you didn't damage your motor in your earlier crash? The radical pitch up in SAFE mode means your elevator is severely out of trim.

      I have to agree that the GPS safe system has a deadly defect.
      Namely, if you start on safe and keep it there, it flys great. But woe to you if you try switching out of safe in flight.
      Immediate nosedive. That is what you saw on the video. start on safe and switch and you will crash. Same for flying first w/o safe and switching it on in flight.
      Immediate nosedive. There is a glitch in the software when running the DXe TX this plane comes with.
