Absolutely fantastic upgrade. I did this and it should have been how they did this from the start. One 1 thing… I didn’t have the stock landing gear guides broke. I also need them for my floats. So I cut a channel for the guides to fit through the new gear strut and it worked beautifully. Also added to a little structure, besides the screws to the modification. I really appreciate this video 👍it was a great help!!
How much heavier is that aluminum bracket than the original metal rod? I ordered the bracket but it’s on back order and I have not gotten it yet. Was just wondering if it’s pretty lite or if it’s a heavier piece of aluminum?
The right side will tighten if no esna nut (lock nut)is used. With a right handed nut (or bolt),I remember the saying, right to titen, left to loosen. Or clock wise loosens, counter clock wise tightens.
I’ve been doing a lot of research about the Cub S2 wanting to get back into the hobby after a nearly four decade hiatus. Wow, things sure have changed. I appreciate the videos on the Cub particularly. The gear seemed to me to be the weak link. The Valiant gear is already in my shopping cart. Decision made. Thanks!
My landing gear area has been a combination of hot glue and craft sticks for months. This is a much appreciated solution! (Think right wheel would tighten)
Same as the original screws, which are machined threaded screws, just a bit longer. I didn’t use anchors but that sounds like a good idea for the two aft holes.
Do you think the Kavan wheels will be OK on the carbon cub S2 I went with the 4 inch and I also ordered your inserts and a battery tray from your webpage. I’m hoping the Kavan wheels are not too heavy for that plane. What are your thoughts?
I only have the Kavan wheels on the FMS cub, the inserts are designed for that, they might work out on the carbon cub if you have bolts to fit. Let me know how it works out!
It’s landing gear from valiant 1.3, it’s goons Bend like he did it you need to run a rod thru it the whole length, that’s how is in mine for 5 months know
I am going to do the exact same thing on my Corbin cub S2, but I was going to put the 4 inch Kavon wheel using your inserts I was going to use a four MM stainless steel bolt so they work do you think they will be too heavy for the S2 cub
Very informative, and a nice upgrade. Obviously heavier than the stock wire gear. Did it change the CG of the plane much? Any different flight characteristics? Nice video, thanks.
I didn't notice any difference flying it. Originally the Carbon Cub came with a gps unit, now removed, and no longer shipped with the plane, so I wasn't concerned with the minimal extra weight. I didn't even need any trim change.
I turned on Closed Captions so that I can take a screen shot to find out the Viper landing gear. I use the Valiant landing gear for the Timber and other models. Is the Viper landing gear different than the Valiant landing gear? Thanks……Vic
Good video , my experience you need to run a rod thru the whole landing gear . It bend like that. Know 5 months with valiant 1.3 landing gears no problems. Also you may wanna, take the whole baterry compartment were landing gear goes take it out and glue with gorilla hot glue , it also come off after a few landings
Thanks for the tip! That's why I used stainless steel bolts and not mild steel ones. It seems to work well for me, however a stainless steel rod would probably be stronger than a bolt of the same size for sure.
I would think a straight rod going through. Both tires would be more prone to chopping down the grass. It would add a lot more drag to the plane in landing in grass and it would be more prone to nose tip just my opinion though where with no straight rod, the grass could pass through the tires a lot easier.
How much more weight would that add to the plane with the stainless steel bolts and the aluminum landing gear? It would be nice to see the difference in weight
Does it have the same stance as the original landing gear or is it sitting higher in the nose that’s going to make a big difference on landing and flying looks like it’s sitting higher in the nose than the factory landing gear. I just ordered the carbon cup S2 and I like the idea of doing this, but just have a few questions, does it sit higher in the front or does it have the same as the original?

Thats a very interesting customization! I don’t know what the weight difference would be, but the Carbon Cub can handle floats and a camera, so there is a good chance.

Great upgrade, I just bought this Cub for my grandson, I think I will do this before I give it to him.
Have fun! Lucky grandson :)

I got the part number from your video. Just needed a 2nd cup of coffee.
This is a great mod and a very well presented video. Thank you very much.
Thanks! Just ordered one of your battery trays for my Carbon Cub. Nice to see another cub with usage "patina" like mine😃
Hope you enjoy it!
today I have receved the Carbon Cub S2 Battery tray 3D Printed PLA+. verry fast xxx
Happy to hear that, and I appreciate your feedback. :)
very nice update I just have buy the bat, holder
Great, I see you got the one to fit the Gen 1 battery. It's printing now.
That is absolutely brilliant !!! Great job Captain Leo !!! Left wheel locks 😉😎
Thank you so much 😀

Thank you so much for the detailed video. Definitely going to do that mod on mine looks very impressive.!!!!!
Nice idea and demo.. Looks good and solid. thx for sharing. FRCP
Were the front two screws machine screws? If so, did you install anchors first. Thank you

front or back spin / Counter clock wise or Clockwise?? Cute.
Very nice modification! Can you provide information on the "Viper" part you used?

HI where is the part for the landing gear

@@CaptainLeo Thank you, I will be doing this mod.
@@danb.4571 let me know how it works out 😆.
@@CaptainLeo Why did you remove the GPS?
@@BrGoBu I have one cub with GPS and one without. I used it a few times to test it for fun, but in the end I never use it.

Here is the part I am using : Landing Gear Set: Valiant 1.3 : Part number : EFL4955

Its almost the same, I didn’t notice a difference
I dont see the part number anywhere. can you supply the number please. Thanks in advance.
It's in the video description :) Valiant 1.3 EFL4955
Where can I find the landing gear ? Been flying this plane for years now and that's my only problem I have with it
I bought mine from Horizon Hobby, but there are many suppliers online.
it is the left one of course that will brakes the left wheel
When you say break the wheel, did the bolt or did aluminum bend?
